She's a pretty good choice for a reboot (in the games) Lara and rather weak for the original Lara. Personally, I would prefer if they managed to find a middle ground between a young, inexperienced (and very easy to hurt) version and a larger than life superheroine from the pre-reboot games, but I doubt it will happen.

She's trying to pull a Harrison Ford.

Starring in Star Wars and going right of to do a movie about "archaeologist" robbing temples. Heres to Tomb Rider being as good as Indiana Jones

I am now imagining Harrison Ford taking Daisy Ridley as a secret apprentice.

Guiding her in the secret society of Hollywood, teaching her which directors to avoid, what works best, etc.

“Always two there are, a master and an apprentice.”

Hope she bulks up well if she does. She looked positively skinny next to everyone else in the film.

Well, yes. In my eyes an adventurer like Lara who goes around climbing cliffs and running around ancient temples and dangerous jungles should have the body to prove it.

Speaking of adventurers, I heard that there is going to be an Uncharted movie.

Any new news on that front?

Last I heard it was going to be released in 2017, but since it doesn't even have an official director, it's rather doubtful. I suspect things may speed up if other movie adaptations of games (Warcraft and Assassin's Creed) perform well this year.

Anyway, The Trust. It looks like a little generic, but a fun heist film with Nicolas Cage simply being Nicolas Cage.

A Ratchet & Clank movie is also going to be released this year.

I sure hope video game movies are finally going to become good.

We all know the horrors of past attempts...

I dunno about the Clank movie, but I've higher hopes for Assassin's Creed and Warcraft this year.

I want Warcraft to be successful.

Because that will bring us Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3.

And when we have Warcraft 3, there will be motherfucking Frozen Throne and AS YOUR FUTURE KING I ORDER YOU TO PURGE THIS CITY!

The CGI looks terrible, the trailer indicates an overstuffed film and Warcraft has been shit for plot for the last decade.

Can't argue with any of that.

CGI can be explained by 'trailer'. Especially in a movie like that, I imagine they're constantly improving until release.

We'll just have to wait and see on how they wrap this potentially bloated plot into a nice little package.

You can't improve on what looks ridiculous. To be clear re CGI, I'm not talking about quality but depiction. Warcraft as is now looks stupid as shit with the oversized pauldrons, overly muscled everything and typical Blizzard trope of Big Men Saying Big Words While Fighting Bigger Enemies.

The critical dive from earlier games where there was a more subdued, dark fantasy take to World of Warcraft's eventual turn towards cartoonish, comic-booky (and not in a good way) and continual retconning has left the continuity and presentation of the setting in shambled in my personal opinion.

It's one thing to present a story where Orcs and Humans are enemies, but Orcs have a chance at redemption and telling that redemption story while Humans indulge in their more vicious natures.

It's another thing to throw in demons, undead, night elves, trolls, dwarves, humans, draenei, etc... which even if they don't right away will necessitate it in time or shed elements the now decade+ old fanbase will expect.

As a starting film, Warcraft could be very simple indeed but only if they take steps to ensure a lack of bloat. While tempting, they need to book towards a franchise and not overload the first film with characters. For the human side, you present Medivh, Lothar and Turalyon while for the orc side, you focus on Ogrim, Garona and Gul'dan.

While it would be tempting to include elements such as the Frostwolves, Ner'zhul, Grom Hellscream, Blackhand and the Wrynns to a serious degree you hold off as strongly as possible. Blackhand needs to be used for commentary, linked strongly in opposition to the Frostwolves in shared Orcish meetings and heedful of Gul'dan. An obvious puppet to the viewers and in Ogrim's thoughts, but obviously different than the blood thirsty Hellscream or the aging Ner'zhul.

On the human side, Lothar is obviously the protaganist, and needs establishing as a capable and respected warrior. Turalyon has the more quintessential hero's journey IMO, and can go from squire to knight to paladin over the course of two or three movies. The Wrynns are important to establish sympathy, especially since Garona will do what she does and cause the fall of Stormwind. Medivh is the villain in some respects, but that Sargeras stuff needs serious condensing, perhaps even removal all together. Simply having him as a corrupt sorceror bargaining with the Orcs works, and it could tie in elsewhere if Turalyon deals with him while Lothar evacuates the survivors of Stormwind.

Now then, as to the plot...

Eh, pretty basic. You open with a small recital of the founding of Arathor and the spread of human civilization across the Eastern Kingdoms, and the migration of the old blood royal south. You talk about how the land is peaceful, despite the occasional troll skirmish-

And then you cut to an Orc attack on a farmstead, taking place under the command of Grom Hellscream as Medivh and Gul'dan watch on. The attack is frenzied, somewhat confusing to the viewers, presenting the Orcs as monsters more than existent beings. You go faster, interspersing similar attacks across the realm, farmsteads being burned to the ground as these savage monsters do what they do best. You use this to pinpoint or provide cameos to several Orcish captains who might appear in later films, but also to provide contrasts between the ones who will recieve the most screen time in this film.

Grom is bloodthirsty, Blackhand is cruel, Ogrim is methodical and Duraton is merciful. Each character's action will tell a different story, starting from Grom and working the way down to Duraton, shocking the viewer before slowly weaning them down from their initial reactions.

Cut to daylight, with Lothar and Turalyon riding up with the Brotherhood of the Horse inspecting one of the ruined estates. Turalyon is perhaps naive, or innocent, a clearly younger sort who hasn't seen as much bloodshed. Lothar is older, more grizzled by skirmishes with the jungle trolls of Stranglethorn.

And that's all I have for now because it's midnight and I need sleep. Might carry this on tomorrow.

I'm actually cautiously optimistic about Warcraft. I have no real emotional attachment to the universe and Duncan Jones is a director who could do something interesting with it.

Looks interesting, but I honestly don't know what to expect.
The studio apparently did Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.

I've been excited for this for a while. Horrible voice acting aside, it looks great.

Since there is no point in starting a whole new thread for it for now, may as well post in here that Disney just announced a new Indiana Jones movie for 2019. I strongly suspect they will play it as safe as they did with Star Wars and we will get a really good film, but I'm really curious in what year the action will be happening and what's going to be its MacGuffin.

Personally, I would be very tempted to put him in 2019 and reveal that because of one of his previous adventures he started to age slower. Based on Ford and Indy's age (73 and born in 1899) it's more likely to be happening in 70-ties.

That's great news. I wonder if Karen Allen and The Beef will make a return or if it's going to be Indy-centric. The movie was not great, but I liked the family dynamic in Crystal Skull. It reminded me a lot of Last Crusade.

Yeah all they had to do to make Crystal Skull work was a) Hang it on a mystic mcguffin and not aliens, b) not cast Shia LaBeouf and c) get rid of that stupid chase scene and you've got a half way decent Indiana Jones flick. Not a classic or anything but something that would wrap it all up, I liked the idea of Marion and Indy's long lost son, even if it was played out poorly she was always the best love interest he had.

I'm guessing they're going for a full reboot since there isn't really and iconic Indiana Jones characters to continue the story. I can get behind that.
