Since Ford's age really is starting to show on screen, I kind of hope they find a decent child actor to do an 'old-Indy/old-Marion have an adventure with their grandkid' sort of deal. HJ the 3rd and the kid's mom can be off doing whatever offscreen.

They could then end the franchise there, or continue with a quality adult actor as a grown version of said grandkid somewhere down the line.

If they were going for a full reboot why would they be bringing Harrison Ford back?

Are they? I admit I haven't really looked into it. It will be interesting to see how they will play it out then. Perhaps they will have a family thing like with Star Wars, (though please no more Shia Labeouf.) More likely they will have some young Indiana Jones-ish archaeologist need to deal with some mystical Mcguffin, and Indy is the only expert that can help. Reluctantly he will join the new guy for some shenanigans/ adventuring (or at least as much as Ford will be able to manage by then,) and it will end with him symbolically passing the buck (probably in the form of the hat) on to the new franchise. Or was the basic premise of Crystal Skull? I cant honestly can't remember now.

I know it is impolite to kill the messenger, but for bringing such grave news you should start running right now.

My childhood is being destroyed and there's nothing anyone can do about it...

While it's obviously still far too early to pass any real comment, I can't bring myself to be excited by a new Indy film. Ford was creaky in Crystal Skull (which I actually enjoyed for the most part), and that was eight years ago. He'll be 75, 76 by the time this comes out. The only realistic scenario I can see is a passing of the torch, with Ford taking a similar role to Sean Connery in Last Crusade, but I'm not really sure I'd want to see an Indy film without Ford in it.

My money is on Indy dying in this film and it being Fords last movie. Symbolic.

They might, but considering the lack of movie spanning characters in IJ I cant see it having quite the impact of say Han Solo biting it. Nobody is going to be expecting Ford to be running away from boulders in his 80s, so it might not be necessary in the same way it kind of was in Star Wars. Still they might for dramatic impact and all.

Spielberg is supposed to be on board with it also. No source, just saw it on the news.

The 1959 Ben-Hur wasn't the first adaptation, but it won 11 Oscars. How do you top that? The trailer looks like it wants to be Gladiator crossed with 300. The film will have to be goddamn magnificent to not be ripped to shreds by every critic ever and it looks like it'll be closer to Gods of Egypt than its granddaddy. The director's best known for Wanted, which was a fun flick, but he's trying to be Ridley Scott.

If this doesn't bomb, it'll be only because people will want to see how much it sucks.

Hold on... why aren't all the characters women? I think Hollywood dropped the ball on this one.

Well, I suppose if you're going to remake one of the old classics, you might as well make it clear that they're separate entities.

In other news, just got back from 'Hail, Caesar!', which I thoroughly enjoyed - notably the first time I've said that about a Coen brothers film. It's a charming, funny love letter to Hollywood. If you're not that interested/knowledgeable about film history though, I suspect a lot of the humour will fly over your head.

I liked Hail Caesar but I thought it wasn't quite as funny as it was trying to be. Only a couple of scenes were laugh out loud worthy. That said the scene with the priests was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

I've seen Fargo, Millers Crossing and No Country for Old Men; I thought Fargo and Millers Crossing were fine, but didn't get the adulation for either of them (I did thoroughly enjoy what I've seen of the Fargo tv series, so it might be that I need to re-evaluate it). No Country for Old Men I thought was tedious nonsense.
