Holy shit. A sequel. Not sure how good the plot's going to be, but a bunch of the original cast are back, and if nothing else the fights will be kickass as hell.

    I'm sold.

The Legend of Tarzan trailer. Just linking this because the cast seems solid enough. Not many hopes for the film, honestly.

So, on the Tarzan vein, I was just made aware of this (It has probably been shown before in this thread)

But jesus fuck I can't wait for this version of The Jungle Book

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcgJRQWxKnw

That trailer was 2 minutes of goosebumps for me.

I'm not sure how jungle book works without a group of swinging jazz monkeys.

Huh. Legend of Tarzan looked surprisingly promising to me. Good cast (very good cast) and a sense of scale that the original work lacked. They seem to be going quite off the rails with this one, and that's a good thing. If nothing else, we'll see some fantastic acting.

    Cautiously optimistic.

Edit: Ditto for Jungle book. As someone mentioned, goosebumps.

That was a shit trailer. They really should have kept it vague instead of giving away everyone and their mothers' motivations.

Gods of Egypt looks interesting if only for the magitek designs (or whatever those armors are). And hey, hollywood branching out into other mythologies is always a plus. Maybe we'll get a AAA Mahabharata somewhere down the line.

More meh than shit, IMO. There's nothing in there that's made me want to rush out and book tickets, but equally nothing that's made me want to pretend it's not happening. But yeah, it's a bit disappointing that they already seem to be telling us who the Horsemen will be, although I guess Angel was pretty much a given.

You know what I don't get? Why do movies take so long to make? Yeah, I get the whole CGI thing but I'm wondering about things like romcoms, thrillers, etc. I mean, if you can film 24+ episodes of a tv show in ayear, surely <2 hours of footage can't take over a year to film, right?

Depends on what you mean by make. If you mean the film itself, then no it doesn't take long to actually film it, a couple of months generally. Shorter/longer depending on the movie, locations involved, scenes etc. The long process is the preparation and marketing, it's not as simple as rocking up and saying lines. Arguably that is the simplest part of making a movie, skill of actors aside.

Outside of filming you need a script, to get producers, director, cast and crew, actually film it (after finding locations), then the finally editing/CGI. And after all that? You're only half way there.

A lot of movies need good marketing, which is why they take so long to come out. There have been loads of good movies that have failed because of shit marketing, and the opposite is also true, there are quite a few shit movies that are successful because of the great marketing. Most blockbuster movies are actually quite shallow, but we love them anyway.

If a movie only takes one year to make then my hopes wouldn't be high. Generally speaking the best movies take more time to get ready then to actually film itself, then once complete it's usually a year or so at least after production to market and release. It's not uncommon for movies to be released that were actually filmed a couple years beforehand and just held back.

tl;dr I think your underestimating how much effort goes into a release. But yes, the filming by itself is relatively short, but I would imagine a film that only takes a couple months from start to finish to release has a very high chance of being shit, script aside.

The fact that they're showing the world 20 years later as it progressed with the alien technology is what convinced me that at least they have a really good premise for this sequel. The trailer did a decent job selling it.

Independence Day looks like a solid action movie that retains all the good aspects of the original while cranking it up to 11 on scale. Hopefully it'll live up to the hype.
