I mean, they did it with Equilibrium. And the Matrix.

That nitpick is very much a carry over from the first movie, lol

Watched Moana on demand with my niece and nephew. It was fucking delightful, and the animation is the best I've seen since Paperman.

Lin Manuel Miranda just needs to take over Disney's music department.

X-men: The Last of Us was pretty damn good. Not as good as IMDB claims, with it being at 9.5 last I checked, but probably the best movie in the series with the possible exception of First Class.

Only problem I had was that I didn't really give much of a crap about the little girl until quite late in the movie.

Any comments reviews on La la Land? It grabbed quite a few Oscars.

I really enjoyed it. Full of charm, and - as far as a musical love story set largely in and around Hollywood can be - quite relatable. Well worth a watch.

    How's the singing?

Not bad. I did find the volume a little off at points - I couldn't always make out the words over the music - but not sure whether that was down to the singing itself, the sound editing, or just technical issues at the cinema I saw it at.

    Equilibrium was by Christian Bale.

Am I the only one that found Lala land getting all those awards a little skeezy given the movie is basically a love letter to Hollywood?

No? Hollywood does it all the time. They love a good, beautiful jacking off to themselves. That's why struggling writers and actresses and the revival of old actors is so popular. Nothing like a good ego massage.

I wouldn't say skeezy - a little boring and predictable, perhaps. But the whole awards season is one long exercise in back slapping, so it's hardly a surprise when they back slap themselves extra hard. It's only really an issue if they get honored over better films, tbh, and since I've not seen most of the nominees this time round, I can't really comment to that effect. I will say that as much as I enjoyed La La Land, I would have seen a Best Picture award for it as either a sign of Hollywood's self-satisfaction, or as a comment on the other nominees than anything else. It's good, but not a stone cold classic.

Pirates of the Carobean 5, trailer #3

If the movie is bad, I will be guilty of perpetuating the demand for lowest common denominator Hollywood blockbusters. My apologies in advance.

I'm actually quite disappointed by the new trailer. The first trailer had this slightly menacing feel while this one seems more disjointed. The humor was also a bit flat.

    And Jack Sparrow Remastered...

Still, it's on my "see it on a big screen" list this year. Plus GOTG 2, Alien, Thor 3, SW8, Spiderman. I think there was something else but I forgot.

I can't decide whether the clear attempts to return to the beats of the first and best installment are a positive or not - recognition of the failings of the last few, or tired, desperate clinging to former glory? I shall probably skip it, despite the wealth of talent involved.

I dunno, I love all the Pirates movies. So I'm excited.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for jolly pirate fantasy.

It's already looking more interesting than Stranger Tides, so at least there's that.

    Anyone else see Logan yet?

Heard about the 'bonus scene' and what it was after the event. I'm in Australia, no scene. Anyone else not get it?

Now knowing what it is, I'm fucking furious.

Oh. And the movie is incredible etc and so on
