Very much feels like it's a natural extension of the story, to be honest. Ryan's Officer K is a refreshing and insightful pair of eyes to view the world from. I think you'll enjoy it very much.

 

Went to see IT last night; I've not read the book or seen the previous adaptation, so I had no preconceptions or much knowledge beyond evil clown going in, and I thought it was very good. I'm not really a horror fan, so I was a bit wary, but the kids are great, as was Skasgard as Pennywise. They did really hammer home the horror elements, it seemed like every other scene had a scare of some description, but to me that kinda worked, because I was constantly on edge. It didn't keep me awake all night or anything, but in the moment I was thoroughly spooked. Would recommend.

 

I thought Blade Runner 2049 was a legitimately good sequel, which is an increasingly rare occurance nowadays. That said, sweet jesus... it was just way too long given the amount of plot. Needed healthy amount of editing.

Also, to anyone thinking of seeing it, I thoroughly recommend rewatching the original BL before you go. Tons of callbacks apart from the central plot driving one.

 

It was way better if you saw it in one of the Dolby theaters, what with rumble seats and everything. But most of it came down to how much you could get into the Kubrickian pacing; I fucking loved it, but it felt every minute of three hours to others.

 

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, and I went in fully expecting drawn out philosophical dialogues and long periods of sweeping psychedelic visuals, because that's Blade Runner. Hell, I would have been supremely disappointed if it had been paced any faster than Final Cut. Everything just needed to be a little... tighter. Like, they could have easily trimmed a few mins here and there where not much of anything was happening, or where the action sequences served little to no purpose.

For example, the sequence right before K finds Deckard's casino. 10 solid mins spent examining and then wandering through a bland desert landscape with a smattering of comical Vegas-y statues that really had nothing to do with anything beyond providing a very basic allegory for the impermanence of beauty and worldly things. That whole business could have been cut down to 3 mins of clean shots without sacrificing any of the visuals, allusion, or content.

Also, can I just say how supremely glad I am that they continued to keep the 'Deckard is a Replicant' thing ambiguous. The 'there was something in his eyes line' from old man Gaf had me fearful they were going to blatantly state it.

 

Just got back from Blade Runner. I wouldn't say that I loved it, but I did think it was very good; utterly gorgeous, obviously, and full of good acting and an interesting if slightly more science-fantasy plot than I was expecting. I think it's a film that will benefit from repeat viewings; there were bits where I felt they were being a bit too obvious about things that I'm already reconsidering, although one character (I won't say who) was a straight up bastard where a more subtle touch might have been better. Definitely recommended though, and definitely worth watching on a big screen to fully appreciate the visuals.

Wheelman, a Netflix movie, has impressed me lately. Almost the whole movie plays inside a car and it has a certain "POV" feel the way it's filmed. You're in a roller coster for the 1:22h. A small B movie which deserved a late night big screen release. If you can find it it's worth checking out.

 

Just saw The Foreigner, aka Jackie Chan does Taken.

Loved it. I need more Jackie in my life.

 

I know I‘m a bit late to the party, but after a second viewing, the flaws became much more apparent to me. Before we get into the details, a brief disclaimer: I recently wrote a term paper on TSS, so I was quite excited for this one.

I won‘t say much regarding actor performances, since I watched the film in German and that, in my experience, can take away a lot from the performance. (The German version of the FOX comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine is by far the worst offender in that regard, doesn‘t capture the flair and performances of the original at all.)

Back to the topic: @Gengar has already mentioned some of my gripes – even though I enjoyed Mark Strong‘s Scottish singing voice much more than I thought I would and his sacrifice, while somewhat lamely executed, made at least some sense.

After being excited for Harry‘s return at first, I am now somewhat disillusioned with the decision. With what I know now, I would have liked him to return either in a third film (even though I suppose that Hollywood economics don‘t quite work like that), or in a sequel set at a later point in time story-wise, and even then in more of a supporting role.

I understand that there was some scheduling conflict regarding Sophie Cookson starring in a major role in a Netflix series the name of which has temporarily escaped me, but I don‘t know how heavily this has influenced the script, obviously. Still, killing her off (or at least taking her out of the movie, after all we don‘t actually see her death) feels like a cop-out and a contrived compromise to the benefit of Harry and the Statesmen.

Contrary to many, I actually enjoyed Julianne Moore as the villain, because her smile was absolutely terrifying, and her voice actress did a superb job. It‘s just that her character was rather bland… unlike her burgers, I would imagine.

Also, I minded the inclusion of Tilde considerably less than I thouht I would. I saw this as a continuation of the franchise simply taking tbe piss out of the spy movie trope of the endlessly replenishable pool of girls. A secret agent in a committed relationship with a princess? C‘mon, that‘s bleeding awesome.

Tequila (or, more accurately, Channing Tatum) was wasted. Apparently, they wanted to raise the stakes, but that does not change the fact that he spends the most important part of the mission Captain America‘d in a freezer.

Last but not least, the film was too long. The whole subplot involving Charlie‘s girlfriend could have been cut with some minor tweaks to script and characters, as could have Harry‘s way towards recovery.

All in all, 3.5/5, with half a point added out of love for the franchise and its characters.

 

I didn't see much difference between both Kingsman movies. They go as far as the current gimmick keeps you entertained and that's what all these movies are. IMHO the first one lost its drive to the end. The first one might only "feel" better in hindsight because it felt fresh back then.

 

This movie was absolutely fantastic. It didn't try to do a lot, but what it did, it did almost perfectly. It didn't try to be complex, multifaceted or larger than life. Pretty much the whole thing was realistic, and the PoV really gave it a unique feel. Well worth the watch.

 

Ragnarok was actually hilarious. Giggling and laughing out loud the whole way through.

And God of Thunder Thor is obviously awesome.

 

Opening night for Ragnarok is tommorow. I will be watching it right away. I hope I am not too dissapointed since I have been pumped about this for a month now.

 

i might see Thor or Justice league i cant decide between the two, first time in a long ti me i had to choose between to movies.

I liked Thor despite having such high expectation going in.

Only compliant I have is that it tries too hard to be funny. We can go 5 minutes without a joke damn it.

 

I could not go 5 minutes without Rock Dude though.

The Snowman was a bit disappointing. The book was brilliant, a really gripping thriller that I just couldn't put down. The film...is fine, I guess. It seemed like quite a lot had changed in the adaptation process, not always for the better, but the performances were fine, for the most part. Probably one to wait for the dvd though, if you see it at all.
