Based only photos alone, Light is probably a complete miscast, but I'm intrigued by their L. That said, I have a feeling he's not going to be even half as eccentric as he is in the original because they will decide it doesn't fit the adult tone they're aiming at.

The rest is simply meh and could go either way in the film.

 

Yeah, there's a big difference between publicity photos of the actors and what they look like performing on screen.

In fact, I think he's nailed L's stance and mannerisms.

It could suck, of course, but what we've seen so far isn't a strong indication in either direction.

 

I will give him that. L is supposed to be awkward and anti-social. I think he'll do a good job.

However, an actor can only do so much with the script they're given.

 

Of which we know nothing yet, I remind you.

I'm glad we agree that he wasn't necessarily miscast straight off the first pictures, at least.

I just hope they don't butcher the story. I know the anime/manga are still there and won't be erased by a terrible adaptation, but still, would be nice.

And hey, there's still that 2015 TV drama? I've yet to watch it.

 

Controversial opinion:

When I first watched / read Death Note, I thought it was god tier, some of the best detective fiction I've ever read.

I went back to it recently with a friend who hadn't seen it...

I don't think it holds up...

 

I think you might be right about this, I haven't watched it since I was 19 or so, and I doubt I'll feel the same way about it if I watched it now.

 

In all honesty it sounds like 'Cringe and Edge', the manga/lightnovel/dgaf, which is why I never got into it.

 

Death Note's one of the best anime I've seen but it's still a very solid meh as far as I'm concerned. A few good moments, yeah, but it still falls into the same pits that most anime seems to.A cool idea and that's about it.

Guess we'll see with the movie. Could be interesting.

 

I once theorized what would Death Note be like if instead of an Anime it was an American thing from the beginning.

I'm thinking that very few things would have to be changed. For example the Shinigami would all be changed into a single Grim Reaper.

 

I wouldn't even say that it's in my top 50. It was original (as anime goes), and thus fairly memorable, but I wouldn't go as far to say that it was a really good show.

I wouldn't say amazing, just a typical teenagers s-f film. Since we only got glimpses of Power Rangers elements, it can go either way.

 

Surprisingly good is a good phrase to describe it, at least for a Rangers film. Intrigued enough to check it out.

 

Power Rangers were a big part of my childhood and I demand they at least have the theme song. From the trailer, I think we'll get it.
