Eh the Cinderella one was a pretty waste of time since it was basically a shoot for shoot remake of the cartoon. This one looks gorgeous and I have mildly higher hopes that they will have a few new angles to explore. I'm sure they will make a bunch more pretty but forgettable live action remakes. I'm holding out for Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mulan, they all have a much deeper and more fucked up source material that could be explored. I mean they probably won't but it's nice to imagine a decent live-action mermaid movie at least.

We're getting that. Also what I think is going to be Rapunzel (although Tangled was awesome by itself), but that could be someone screwing about with the page, there's no sources. There's also some other stuff, but it isn't all actually named.

I've seen all this before, and I wouldn't hold my breath for it. The thing is the release dates are going to change over and over until I'd say about a year before they come out in theaters.

Mulan would be a cool live action to go see though. I'm nuts for all things with an Eastern accent.

Full Metal Alchemist Live Action Movie Teaser Trailer (English-Subbed)

Looks interesting I hope they do this anime justice with a live action film.

I think it looks bad. I understand why they're going with a Japanese cast, but what with most of the main characters being completely white, and part of the story is the underlying racial tensions, it's gonna be weird if Xingese, Ishvalans, Amestrisians are all basically Japanese.

Ed does not look like Ed, it just looks like a dude in cosplay.

I think FMA is actually doable as live action, but probably a huge budget western adaptation. This just looks like something noone asked for.

It feels like Disney want their IP to reach a new generation, and they must have data that says they're not watching the originals.

Making them in the Pixar way seems pointless. They'd feel too similar and both Disney Animation and Pixar are doing their own thing (read: don't fucking mess with their magic).

Live action seems a reasonable step. And i quite liked Jungle Book.

It's a shame they're not faux musicals like the originals, but I have Spotify if I want my fix - and it hurts my soul if classic Disney songs don't sound exactly as they should.

Agreed. Jungle Book did amazingly well in that regard.

I guess I'm in the minority then because I don't like songs in movies at all. It breaks my immersion when characters suddenly burst into song.

I can't possibly imagine The Lion King without Hakuna Matata.

GTFO, Be Prepared is clearly the best song in that movie. Such menace! Irons nails it!

I have the feeling, that they learned their lesson from Godzilla and actually show more monster action. Don't know about that John C. Reilly character, but I liked what I saw.

It's no weirder than all the white washed casts in foreign-set movies over the last... Well since cinima began really. It's a Japanese property, why shouldn't they cast Japanese actors? The aesthetic might have been european but the charecters were just stock anime, as 'white' as you care to interpret them. It is a made up world after all.

It might not end up any good, but it will at least be interesting. Seeing what using their own actors while 'borrowing ' another cultures aesthetic/setting looks like from the other side of the fence. After all western cinima must have done it to every other culture on the planet by this point.

The Mummy trailer featuring Tom Cruise looking like Nathan Drake after he retired, Tom Cruise running, the Mummy is a chick with tats which reminds of that piece of flaming garbage Suicide Squad, the film looks to be taking place in modern London instead of early 20th century Egypt, the sarcophagus looks like an alien casket instead of an Egyptian sarcophagus and there's a cargo plane, which let me squeeze in a bad Mummies on a Plane joke that's not even funny and not really a joke.

Dracula Untold didn't fill with confidence that Universal Monsters CU needed to be a thing and this sapped what little anticipation there was left.

Say what you will about the 1999 version, but this thing is #NotMyMummy

I really like that version. At least the first film.

They just confirmed that Dracula Untold isn't a part of their shared universe which means they're really disappointed by it. I wouldn't expect the Mummy do much better than it though.

But if the Universal Monsters CU was half as good as the cast it has, it would easily be more than decent. Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe (Dr. Henry Jekyll), Javier Bardem (Frankenstein's monster) and Johnny Depp (The Invisible Man) at their worst are better than most actors.

Saw The Mummy trailer... Thought it looked incredible...

But I'll watch any action movie with Cruise in it.

Eyes Wide Shut. To be fair it's the only one I hated.

It's pretty crazy, he's nowhere near the top of my favorite actors list. But he gives maximum effort and I'm almost always left liking his movies.
