Even assuming I could actually rewrite it competently, considering how much trouble Rowling had with publication, it's not what I would choose. I would prefer something big and impressive from the get-go like LotR or ASoIaF.

I want Hans to return as a proper villain from the start. My problem with making him an evil Prince Charming was having the reveal very late in the film and not using it to its full potential.

Since teaser suggest that Disney plans to explore more magical powers than just Elsa's, I would have Hans search for a way to gain them for himself and meet the rest of characters as their try to find their own answers about them.

I'm pretty into this trailer, definitely caught my attention, but yeah I'd be bummed if it went that predictable route.

I'll double down on I hope the protagonist gets the best of both worlds. Also, this looks delightful.

A lot of the final impression for this will hang on the ending. But if nothing else, at least the soundtrack will be dope.

    Saw Alita.

Really enjoyable action movie with a decent story. I’d give it the same quality as most Marvel movies.

    Acting: 3/5
    Story: 3.75/5
    Score: 3.5/5
    Visuals: 5/5
    Action scenes: 5/5

All in all a solid B+. Excited for the sequel.

I saw it in IMAX and it was amazing, but I’m not a huge fan of 3D movies. So YMMV

    "Elsa, look! A lucky emblem!"

I saw it in standard, but I would probably say no. There isn't a lot of stuff that pops out toward the viewer. Tons of wideshot artsy slowmo action though, so you may enjoy that in 3D.

I can’t stand 3D but saw it in IMAX and absolutely loved it that way so I’d say 2D or IMAX, prolly not regular 3D.

Yeah, Alita was a surprisingly entertaining movie that had a far more tolerable story (and far more brutality) than I was expecting. And as others said it has some really great action scenes and visuals though I admit that CGI and the like has never been a big problem for me. Still I was surprised by how quickly I "accepted" Alita.

Is there a music biopic behind every corner now or what?

I suppose HBO is more series than movies, but this is the best thread for it. A sneak peak at HBO's 2019 lineup. Highlights for me are another 5 seconds of GoT S8 footage, His Dark Materials (never actually read the books, but I have a soft spot for the mediocre 2007 film--it's the same kind of fantasy as HP, so I'm looking forward to seeing what BBC comes up with; as a bonus, James McAvoy is in it) and Catherine The Great (because of Helen Mirren).

If this is the first game adaptation to be actually good, I say this is going to be one of the biggest films of this year, in the top 3 worldwide. Which is really something considering its competition: Avengers 4, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Star Wars 9 and that's only listing the sure 1B+ films of this year.

I know some people find the Pokemon weird looking but Ludicolo is one of my favourite Pokemon and it looked amazing there; I'm cautiously optimistic.

Not going to lie, I will watch Detective Pikachu just to see Mewtwo fuck some shit up.

Edit: If he does end up being the main 'villain behind the scenes' as is currently rumored, it would make me wonder if they're trying to do a loose tie-in with the Mewtwo Strikes Back CGI remake. That might be fun. 'Revenge against my creators' Mewtwo is still basically the best plot-bunny the Pokemon writers have conceived to date.

I'm curious how closely the movie will follow the video game plot.

I will be watching the shit out of this. I've seen the trailers, but I'm going to avoid all hype and spoilers, and just go watch it cold and see what happens. Should be a fun ride.

I'm tempering my expectations. Don't want to overhype it and just be disappointed.

Having said that, this is going to be the greatest feat of cinematic excellence in the history of film.
