vaaammmmppp all the way. A werewolf wouldn't be bad if I can control the form.

For those into anime/NGE, mister cynical wrote a hilarious story were OC Shinji was a murdering werewolf.

Werewolf ESPECIALLY if I can change on command.

You people who say that a vampire should be able to walk in sun? HUMBUG! I say!

vulnerable to light is a KEY part of Vampire lore and is almost Universal. Werewolves have enhanced sense of smell (at least) Super!Strength, and supernatural agility, flexibility, stamina, etc (and arguably eyesight too.)

Vampires are ultimately solitary. They also spend OVER HALF their time LOCKED UP in a COFFIN!! What if there is a fire, or an emergency? They are VERY limited. I'd go with werewolf.

The weakest werewolf is never as Vulnerable as the strongest vampire is during the day.

You people do know that a werewolf that can change on command is called a lycan, right? So, basically everyone here that wants to be a werewolf wants to be a lycan.

Incorrect, Lycan is short for Lycanthropy which is just another word for werewolf. Your getting that, I assume, from the movie Underworld. In the movie it clearly puts it that only older more powerful werewolfs have learned to transform at will.

Can I not just be an hybrid? A sort of furry bloodsucking monster with superhuman strength and fangs.

No, I got that from some HP fic, but was too tired to write it all out. And I was trying to be smart. DAM YOU!! *stabs with knork*
Neway, did you kno that lycanthropy is actually mental illness that makes one think that one is a wolf?

    *deflects and stabs back*

Lycanthropy, or Clinical Lycanthropy is a term used for the illness of thinking oneself can change into any animal and does not strictly apply to people who think they are `werewolfs. I'd recommend going to sites like wikipedia, or googling for information on lore and not trusting something from a fiction story.

Wikipedia is awesome. Besides, I was tired when I wrote that, and I am tired now, seeing as it is nigh 12:00 where I live. Anyways, a Lycan I think is actually someone that can turn into a certain animal at will, kinda like Animorphs, but sorta not.

    *sigh* Again

That is incorrect, Lycan is short for Lycanthropy which is just another word for werewolf.

In his defense, many RPGs, fictions, and video games have used Lycan as a cooler way of saying werewolf.

I do vividly remember at least one PC game that used Lycan's as the term for those that can morph at will, and kept them seperate from the Werewolves, their offspring, that only transformed on full moons.

Anyhow, I've seen videos on the Discovery channel of Lycanthropes... good lord those are some screwed in the head ppl

Well i'd have to say i'd go Vampire, what better way to amass riches and power then being one with the shadows? Faster, stronger, to have near complete control over the mind of yourself and others? Close to a perfect instrumentation of death.

We are talking about lore now? Well, folklore comes in many shades.

One of my favorite protrayals of Vampires in old lore is that there are some extra stipends like can't cross running water and must sleep in a coffin containing their native soils, but killing them is a real bitch. In this particular lore you have to stake the vampire in the heart, decapitate 'em, burn them and their coffin into pure ash, and bury the ash in the middle of a crossroads. Skip any of those steps and all that will result is a very pissed off vampire out for your blood in the near future. And in case you are wondering it takes a staking and a beheading before the vampire is out of commission for a while. That is one tough vampire.

A more ridiculous folklore is that vampires have to untie knots before leaving or entering an area. People use to drape bodies suspected of being resurrected as vampires with nets and they believed that they would be safe because the vampire had to untie all the knots before getting out of the grave. That or they hung nets around their houses so the vampires would be forced to untie all the nets before entering. Sure being a vampire would be cool but if it means becoming OCD, then I think I will pass.

With werewolves there are no that many differant folklores but there are a couple you might have not heard of.

Some lore has it that witches could make these belt things out of wolfhide/human skin with some type of design on it (I am thinking of stars for some reason) and if you wear it you can become a werewolf.

Another one is that when a werewolf dies of natural causes (i.e. no silver bullet) it then becomes a vampire. Can't remember why if an explanation was even given.

Werewolves also have this deal with crossroads except they need to be pumped with silver and flayed and/or dismembered.

But all in all I would be a werewolf because that kind of existence appeals to me more. I would rather be an occasional hunter of humanity then to be forever dependent on humanity.

On werewolfs in lore I remember one tale that is similar. The scandanavian barbarians [ Read Vikings ] would wear pelts of animals to harness the ferocity and briefly become as savage [ during the raid ] which they called Beserk.

    (I could be mistaken)
