I was just thinking about adding in something about Vampires into Incubus, when i realized something.

Why would a Vampire even live in England?

Vampires can't stand sunlight (i'm ignoring 'daywalkers' here), correct? So wouldn't Vampires live in a country such as Russia/Southern Australia/Argentina and migrate?

In the winter, which ostensibly doesn't make life for a cold-blooded and dead creature, places like Northern Siberia, etc have nearly 24-hour darkness, and there are enough villages, etc around that blood is also supplied (shipping accidents? :p). As the summer approaches, and days start lengthening, they would migrate to the other end of the globe to spend the long ass winter there.

After all, as a Vampire, TEH DARKNESS RULES, correct? They can sleep in the dark, or be awake...staying outside won't hurt them.

Why would they live in places like England, then? England does have some long periods of darkness in the winter, but not in the same fashion as places nearer to the poles. Okay, even if England WAS a viable, livable option for Vampires, wouldn't they at least migrate for the summer? I mean what Vampire would stay in a country when he is only safe 8 hours of the day?

Even in canon, Quirrel encounters Vampires in the forests of Bulgaria or somesuch country, which is close enough to Russia that i can make a guess that it does have some pretty long nights in the winter.

Any thoughts on this? The idea kinda floated into my mind while i was sleeping...

Maybe they prefer to live in civilisation and have pizza and coca-cola delivered, instead of living in some cave in Syberia. Sure, there they could walk around all day long, but there's not much purpose for that when they're in the middle of a fucking desert, right?

Besides, I'm sure they could use sun creme and stuff like that. Not to mention magic; if wizards can invent spells to turn people into frogs and stuff, why couldn't they invent a sun-blocking spell?

<Shrugs> Vampires suck. That whole idea is stupid and unrealistic.

Actually, Bulgaria is souther than England. They have continental climate (hot summers and cold winters, with short mid-seasons).

I don't know though, it could depend...
I mean, what if the vampires just slept through the whole period of daylight, and woke up in the evening?
Of course, they could just sneak around in buildings and underground places...
I'd imagine that if the Vampires were there, then they wouldn't necessarily want to move elsewhere too much...They would have a decent food source, and could do other things than go outside all the time.
    SPF 100000, anyone?

I think that Vampires would congregate where ever there is plenty of room for them to hide from the day and they have less to worry about Vampire Hunters going after them. So considering the mood of magical England I doubt there are many Vampires.

Bulgaria may be more lax in controlling dark creatures and I think its a mountainous country so its possible they have cave systems that the vampires can call home. I imagine despite the sun Africa would be a great place for vampires because all of the bloodshed would hide their activities. Considering the number of caves in Afghanistan our troops have to look into, that area would be a good place too.

I think werewolves are more ubiquitous then vampires because they are more able to hide in plain sight if they are careful around a full moon, vampires have to be for choosy at where they live.

Also in Britain we don't have a climate, we have weather.
Also in some parts there are connected cave formations, in the midlands for example.
Also It's where all the writers of vampire fiction came from.
    Byron, Bram Stoker etc.
I mean most of Dracula was based on Whitby.

Also Northern Scotland can be really cold.

That's all I can think of for now.

Edit: I was thinking of the fire/heat thing. I've been at council meetings and my brain got overheated.
    Sorry

What does that have to do with vampires?

I think that they like to be in a place where there is a surplus of food, and where the nightlife can be pretty exciting and not some desert where there is nothing but sleeping people and other vampires.

I dunno...the whole nightlife thing is so cliche its just ridiculous. What possible reason does a Vampire have to dance and drink?

So he can cop a feel here and there? Perhaps leech on someone's neck without anyone noticing? Meh...I think Vampires are boring creatures who sit in caves like bats, and venture out by night for blood. Otherwise they bicker like savages...or party like Frat Boys, whichever makes you happy.

Since the point of this thread was immediately made moot by IP82's post, lets just have it be a random Vampire-related opinion thread instead.

Feel free to respond to my first post, though.

Hell, if I were immortal, living in a cave forever would be the gayest shit ever.

OK, assuming that vampires are less human and more... blood-sucking crazed creature thing... I would think migration would suit them better. With less intelligence they wouldn't be able to come up with solutions such as sunscreen and crap and would therefore need to move along with the seasons to where they are less likely to be incinerated by sunlight. Or it may be possible that after hundreds/thousands of years of evolution, they started hibernating through the more ...dangerous seasons, when daylight is more abundant.

If they have more intelligence, then I agree with everyone else :p.

Edit: This is me responding to your first post...

I still to this day refuse to read vampire!Harry and have only read two fics with vampires in it. I agree with IP, they're a stupid idea.

I dunno...they aren't stupid, IMO, it just hasn't been done very well at all. Too many authors turn Vamp!Harry into an excuse for emo/goth/fratboy lifestyles, or turn it into some sort of creature lovin' fic.

Of course, there is the overabundence of Vamp!Harry slash and hurt/comfort angst fics where Draco/Snape keep trying to kiss it better or some other inane bullshit.

I'd like to see a Ruthless!Harry-is-Vampire fic, well written, gory and action-packed. There jsut aren't any fics good enough. There is the one where 8,000 year old Harry goes back in time to his child body, but that's slash, and is looking repetitive already. There are the few where he got rejected by his friends and whatnot, but out of some idiotic-please-hurt-me hero complex, he sticks around their homes for the next 500 years and has affairs with their great-grandchildren >_<.

    I wanna see kickass!ruthless!Vampire!Harry, dammit! :(

They can be a good idea... but most authors have Vampires with slash... were the fuck does that come from?

Anyways... I agree with BMM :p

    I love vamp!Harry fics.

In Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' vampires only went out at night, they slept in coffins and they had hairy hands.

Yarrgh!: Do you mean Curse of Fate*by Mistress Nika? I had to stop reading that after the detailed Remus/Sirius shite. Agh. It had such promise too...

Yeah, razz, thats the one. Used to be good...now i'm shocked. You would think that 8000 years of life would be enough for the fucker to decide which way he swings...but no.

This is gonna turn into a shitstain of a fic, i predict.

Its had its good and bad moments.

In the beginning when Harry was first masquerading as Voldemort was the best. I think it has pretty much gone downhill from there. I've dropped it now, anyway.

It was a 'shitstain' from within the first paragraph of that latest chapter - where the slash really kicked in with vengeance. Such a shame ...

I have a question... Who says that Vamps are able to use magic? As far as I can tell they have super strenght and are very fast however it was never mentioned if they are able to use magic. In my opinion they shouldn't be able to use magic simply becaues they would be too powerfull. Super strenght, super fast and magic is simply too much.
Perhaps the magic of a wizard fights the Vampire "curse" when they are turned and so they burn out their magic completly.

But I agree with with the others. Who would want to live in a cave for all ethernity? Rather have some fun for some centuries.

And yet still it is repeatedly tried. I don't think I've ever come across a vamp!Harry fic where he didn't have magic as well as everything else.

Anyway, I agree with you, that is a good point.

    Without reading the posts above;

Vampires live where 'smexy boiz and grlz' are. If you were a vampire would you prefer to feed on ugly people or beautiful people, seriously? And if they became your underling you'd prefer a hot girl to an ugly boy... Right?

    End Lame Post....

Depends on what characteristics are given to vampires in regards to daylight.

You've got your basic sleep at day wake in the night vampire.
    Your sunblock vampire
    Your protective blankie vampire

In any case I'd imagine that after a few thousand years you know the world and get the smarts to get around. That means bazillionaire vampires with luxury all around as interest alone should make you very wealthy after your first eon.

Rofl...i can just see 'Claudius' or 'Validus', or whatever archaic name this 5000 year old Vampire has, trying to exchange money.

"5 Million Sestertii! What the hell do you mean you don't use Sestertii! Get me the Manager!"

Rofl...Protevtive blankie Vampire? Sounds horrible :p
