The beast Vampires come form White Wolfs game Vampire. In Vampire the first Vampire was Cain the brother of Abel. After killing his brother God cursed him to walk the earth for all eternity. He eventually would sire 13 other people making them vampires with each one of them forming their own clan. The original 13 are supposable deep in hibernation and it is said that if they wake the apocalypse is coming.

A Vampires strength is based on how thick their blood is in the game. Cain being the 1st generation with the original 13 being the 2nd so on and so 4th. Anyone who is in the 3rd to 7th generation would most likely have the role of a elder of a city. When one gets to the point of being around a 14th, 15th generation vampire they become so weak that they can walk in the sun. The only way to acquire more power AKA go up a generation is the practice of Diabolism. Diabolism is the draining of the blood of a older generation and thus you take on their powers. It is very very taboo and is punishable by death if caught.

As for the creatures of sex in Vampire most Vampires can not even have sex, because as creature of the dead they do not feel the need. Though this is not true for all. Basically they can have sex they just don't feel the urge to.

This is what I have always thought off when I hear the Term Vampire.

Most of my Vampire material/belief comes from the game Vampire: The Masquerade. (As well as it's two sequels, Redemption and Bloodlines).

Much like Squash said, the belief is that Vampries were spawned from Cain and Lilith, after Cain killed Abel and God cursed him to walk the earth for eternity. Lilith taught Cain how to use human blood to make himself stronger, and this caused God to curse him to an eternity of darkness. (No Sunlight.)

The reason I fall back on Vampire: Masquerade is because it has amazing detail and backgrounds on Vampires, or as they call them 'Kindred'. There are two main factions in Masqurade that fight aginst each other based on their feelings towards humans. The Camarilla and the Sabbat. Each one is broken into several clans as the Camarilla are Neutral/Good while the Sabbat are EvilMofo's.

Most of the typical Vampire cliche's still apply. Extremely powerful, drink blood to regain magical power, can't stand sunlight, decapitation silver and holy water hurt them.

But what I like about that is each clan, depending on who they are, have their own unique trademarks when it comes to abilities and what they can do. Some quick examples.

Gangrel(Camarilla): A bit more rogue'ish then other clans, relying more on solo missions and such. They also are a bit more in touch with nature, allowing them to speak with animals and even give them some types of Animagus abilities, such as wolves, hawks, etc.

Giovanni(Nuetral Clan) - They are large financial power because they have an great ability of tearing out someone's soul and actually being able to store it. They are known as 'soul-traffickers' because they use said souls as bargaining chips to other clans.

Cappadocians(Sabbat): This clan is usually full of Necromancers and the like. They can speak with the dead and can even call upon spirits to help them.

Tzicisme(Sabbat): They've perfected a magic called 'Fleshcrafting'. Using the skin and organs of humans, vampires or any other creature's they can construct fearsome beings like Gargoyles, Flesh Golems and many other things and then animate them as mindless soldiers.

Nosferatu(Camarilla): Ugly bastards that no mother could love. But because of their nasty appearence they've evolved an ability called 'Obsfucate', which allows them to go almost completely invisible, even to other Kindred sense.

There's several other clans I won't go into that also have amazing abilities because of what they are. If you're looking to add some originality to a Vampire!HP fic, this is something that is well worth looking into as it gives you room to play as an author, as well as gives you weakness other then the typical 'Holy' shit everyone tends to use when writing a fic with Vampires.

Alright, thanks for all the input. You have given me a lot to think about and a lot of interesting ideas.

Too everyone else, please don't hesitate to put your input in here as well. I want to make the story enjoyable to everyone so I enjoy your input on what is a "no no".

I do believe that I am going to be using the idea of "Cursed" from now on. It is a lot better then "Undead" and I like it more. Hope this doesn't offend anyone.

I do believe I am going to be giving the Vampires magic, but I do believe I am going to be putting in different factions, (clans, whatever you wanna call it.)

I was however, thinking that I would give all vampires at least a little Necromantic powers. Views on this?

Thanks for the help so far,

    -Void

As I said earlier the way I see vampires is the way they are portrayed by Laurell K Hamilton.

They are beings that gain power as they age, when they are newly createed they are very weak, compared to older vamps.

You get both Master Vampires, who are powerful enough that their own power is that which awakes them at night, and non Master Vampires, who rely on the Master of the City in which they live to provide the power to wake them.

Only a Master Vampire who is very powerful can become the Master of the City, as they must have enough power to give "life" at night to all their non-Master vamps.

There are some psychic/magical powers that all vampires have, for instance the ability to roll someones mind with their eyes. Some are better than others at it, and most Master Vampires can do it to large groups at once. Young vamps can only do it to a single person with direct eye contact. However, once rolled a human will do or feel anything the vamp tells them to.

Vamps also have other powers, each vampire having different selections so to speak. Their powers are determined by their age and their bloodline.

Each bloodline is started by a Sour de Sang or something like that, french for Fount of Blood. This is a vampire who has reach a new level of power, even higher than Master of the City. There are only a few Sour de Sangs. The most powerful of them comprise the Vampire Council in Europe. This is a group of I think 7 of the most power vampires. They basically have the largest bloodlines as well, so they have the most backing within the vampire world. They tend to be exceedingly powerful, and most of them have abilities that are either unique or transend the norm.

For instance, Belle Morte, Beautiful Death. She is the Fount of Blood for the largest bloodline out there. Her powers centre around allurement and attraction, she feeds on sex as well as blood, and is a major sexual sadist. Her bloodline all have powers based on these things as well. For instance one can bring a woman to near orgasm with a touch. One can give multiple orgasms with his bite. As well as this, the power makes them more beautiful. However, Belle Morte has a power that only 3 others have, 2 of whom only have a lessened version of it. The Arduer. Basically she gains energy from participating in and watching sex. The Arduer strips away peoples inhibitions, and they abandon themselves to lust.

Another council member is the Padrico, he has the power to control any animal he so desires. This means were animals as well (in the series there is a were form of nearly any animal). Most Master Vampires gain the ability to Call an Animal of somesort. This means they can control that animal. However, even the most powerful only have 2 or so distinct animals to call. Padrico can Call any animal he wishes. This means that in combat with him, no vampire can use their Animal to Call against him, which is a major advantage for him, seeing as how he is generally weaker than most vampires his age power wise.

Another council member is called the Traveller. He has the ability to posses any vampire he wants, unless they are powerful enough to fight him off, anywhere in the world, completely and utterly, and act within the body, as if it were his own. This completely freaks out all the vampires, especially as he is exceedingly powerful in general. As I mentioned earlier, all vampires can control humans, and some more powerful ones can even roll weaker vampires, but to completely possess any vampire who is weaker than him, is a unique power.

A former council member was the Earthshaker. He was able to literally cause earthquakes, his telekinetic power was so strong. He was also one of the oldest vampires around, as he was a neandrethal. He was over a million years old. Some Master Vamps gain some amount of telekinesis, but not usually in great amounts. The Earthshaker was killed because he was participating in a fight where he had agreed to not make use of his extensive telekinetic ability. He had greately powerful in general, but he still died.

The theory presented in the books about the way vampires are undead, is that during the night their soul is present, while during the day it flees. The more powerful the vampire, the earlier they awake. Also the more powerful the vampire the more immune to the sun they are. For instance, the Earthmover, he could literally walk in the sun, he was so powerful.

There are a great variety of powers, and vampire having a unique power is not overly rare, though it usually only happens to fairly old and powerful vampires. For instance the Master of Cape Cod, has his Animal to Call, as the mermaid, unique, and not especially useful, unless you live near a group of them, hence his being the Master of Cape Cod.

Every city or region has a Master of the City, who rules the vampire community there, and provides the energy that allows the non-masters to awake. Combat between Masters is strictly regulated, as they are so powerful, massive damage can occur. A Master of the City can only invade and take direct control of the regions neighbouring his, and he is then obliged to provide the power for the non-masters in that region, and also to show himself as powerful enough to rule over another area.

i like that. i read some of her novels and its good but this is about vampires in harry potters worlds.

and "if" the author was to put these kinds of vampirs in, then the vampires have to be twice as tough because there are witches and wizards in the world.

and also it would be good if the vampires doesn't get killed in some solem light spell or something because that would be 'way' to easy. i think that the only light that can hurt them is the sun light it self.

From my understanding the 'lumos solarum' spell actualy is sun light or duplicates sun light. While just 'lumos' or 'lumos maxima' is not sun light.

In the end whatever take on vampires you have, they will need something to balance out or counteract magic. From reading all these theories and what other writers have done I want go out and get these books.

Looking forward to seeing the story you develop out of this.

Actually, the only thing that could really be considered vampirism is Porphyric Hemophilia.

Ugh. See, i cant stand vampires in HP stories because they always seem to take over the plot. i've read SO MANY hp fanfics that have been good up until they introduce vampires, and then the vampires becaome super creatures incapable of imperfection. it gets really annoying. you need to be sure to make them significantly fallible, so that they dont turn into 'marysue' type characters.

'super strength' tends to be a real downer for me, as well as 'super speed' which tends to go along with that, because whenever they go into a fight they turn into undefeatable super beings. i mean, where's the challenge? if they were truely undefeatable super beings, then they would have enslaved the world by now.
