Rob Thomas wants to make one and is using Kickstarter to fund it. Kristen Bell is on board and WB gave it OK.

Their goal is 2 millions dollars and after few hours they already have 1,3 million.

Honestly, I can't really believe this is happening. What's next? Serenity 2?* ;)

    *Make it happen, Joss.

I think I just came. I was the biggest fangirl when it was on TV. Every couple of years I watch it on DVD and cringe over how bad a few episodes were (somewhat like Buffy), but I still miss it.

I think what made it worse was the fourth season pilot they had on the third season special features. All the high school and college crap was left behind and she was in the FBI. Fourth season would have rocked. Rob and Kristen have always been on board for a movie, it was the funding that was killing it. Nobody wanted to "waste" the money.

Instead, they want to fund awesome projects like another stupid Madea movie. "Oh look, it's yet another movie with a guy dressing up like an old black lady. Isn't that Tyler Perry so funny."

The problem with that is that Fox would know exactly how much money was raised and bargain around it. Same problem arose with Kickstarters producing physical products where the project creators didn't talk things over with the manufacturers before creating their projects. When the other side knows exactly how much you have, it's problematic at the bargaining table.

Also, one of the first 300 backers for this movie. Saw it, backed it when it was still at <0.5%, went to bed. Woke up and saw the news that it'd just met its goal. I miss this show.

Edit: Just realised that, before the first day was over, this Kickstarter beat VGHS season 2 (Top film Kickstarter) by 1.2 million, and is poised to have reached three times VGHS' funding within it's first 24 hours.

Beat Torment's 1 million record (8 hours, 22 minutes), and probably whatever record there is for two million. They should have done this months ago.

I'm not sure Kickstarter has ever reached $1.2 Billion.

I was really excited and ready to lay down money, but not being a US citizen I don't get any rewards. It's the very first line.

I'm contemplating donating anyway, but this feels like a kick in the nuts and I'm less excited about the project.

Also, Flixster. They're owned by WB [who owns Veronica Mars and is managing the film's distribution]. Has anyone bought a film through Flixster? Is it download or streaming? What's the quality like [480p, 720p, 1080p, etc]? Do they use region locking?

They're currently looking into the logistics of international shipping (so says comments/twitter); I'm currently sitting on the $50 pledge, and I'll swap to any international pledge level when it comes out. If not, I'll have to ship to a friend in the US and have them bring it over when they fly down (every year or two)/mail it down.

Brilliant, I hope they can get as many of the original cast as possible, man I loved that show.

Veronica Mars 2? FUCK YEAH. As for Serenity 2. The actors are too old. May FOX go to the special hell for their transgressions.

That's good news, but it's also a bit late. I wonder how much money they've lost in the initial surge of publicity. Hopefully they push the announcements out to news sites when international donation tiers come online.

Probably some. I read a few of the comments and there were a lot of foreign ones there pledging anyway. As of 3:30 cst they're already at $2.8 million. So, it's a raging success either way. The movie's been greenlighted and the main cast already on board so any further money just goes to a a extra car chase or two, and/or better location shooting.

If distribution opens up to other countries hopefully it'll earn enough money for a nude scene. :awesome

The first season was quite interesting as it had some real hook but afterwards the plot got really ridiculous.

Piz almost killed the series for me because of how obvious it became that he would be a love interest/shitstorm for Veronica and Logan. I honestly expected better writing out of the show but I do feel like the quality rose from the last season on into the finale where it did the series justice.

They're up to $3,235,941, once they open this up to international backing, that numbers gonna explode.

God knows how they're gonna organize all those rewards, looks like they're gonna end up with all kickstarter extras, and a 400 strong kickstarter only after party and red carpet event.

And lol to poor Kristen her throats gonna be horse after doing all those webvids.

That's how it starts. Same thing happened to Sarah Jessica Parker.

Good news for Canadians. Looks like the rest of us might be able to chip in soon.
