In that case, I will step aside (no pun intended) for now, to avoid creating another circle.

Ok, so now what needs to happen is I drop in after not really reading the thread and restart the argument by quoting something from page 2... right?

    Maybe I won't.

Personally I feel like Voldemort has a whole lot of hangups, and issues surrounding blood and it makes forming a coherent position for him difficult. This is not necessarily a bad thing or a hole; people are generally pretty inconsistent when it comes to moral stances or value judgements.

And so I think we see a Voldemort who genuinely hates muggles for being stupid, for being lesser, and for not appreciating his genius as they should (carried across from his childhood years). I think he sees muggleborns as distinct but still tainted by the influence muggles have had over them. They are not a complete loss, they could perhaps be 're-educated' but they will forever be lesser to true wizards. Put simply their attitudes and mannerisms would be too close to muggles for him to see them as anything but 'muggles but different'.

I suspect there's a certain amount of loathing for half-bloods simply because of his own situation. At the same time I imagine he believes that half-bloods are also stronger and more worthy than any others. A mixture of self-loathing and pride stemming from his own self-image.

Purebloods may be ignorant and weak; blood traitors who would seek to contest his own power and right to rule, no better than muggles in their attitudes. Alternatively they may be forward thinking and intelligent; those who realised Voldemort's right to rule and followed him.

Put simply I do see the 'blood status' issue as being one of convenience for Voldemort. He is most concerned about having his power and magnificence realised. He wants to be worshipped, he doesn't particularly care who it is that does it. Purebloods just happen to be the most amenable because many consider magical power to be their birth-right and thus being powerful like Voldemort is is an obvious indicator that he's the one they should follow.

But that's just, like, my opinion. Man.

I imagine Voldemort doesn't count himself as a half blood though. He is one of the greatest wizards ever, the descendant of Great Slytherin and went further on his quest to immortality than anyone ever. I think he considers himself above the purity of blood, so it doesn't come into play when we consider his opinions.

Well, maybe only in his hatred of muggles.

Agree with everything except I think you guys are mistaken about his attitude towards the muggleborns. If all he wanted to do was 'educate' them as you say, his regime wouldn't have been prosecuting muggleborns for stealing magic from real wizards and witches.

Could you stop ignoring earlier points made?
No, actually you're right, Voldemort didn't want to educate muggleborns. Whoever said that was being crazy.
But, him prosecuting muggleborns, I will say once again, is fully explained by wanting to gain and keep the loyalty of his minions, who are pureblood fanatics.

I don't really see the ministry during DH as "Voldemort's regime". I mean, Voldemort had a pretty hands off approach, and I doubt he had any interest whatsoever in actually doing any real governing or policymaking.

The way I see it, Voldemort was happy pursuing his own personal goals of immortality and getting rid of Harry (by traipsing around Europe trying to find the Elder wand), and left the daily bureaucracy to anyone who wanted to handle that boring shit for him. Or do you honestly see Voldemort actively choosing to place Umbridge of all people in charge of anything at all?

The prosecution of muggleborns was a symptom of wide-spread belief in blood-supremacy, not Voldemort's private ambition.

I did say that they would forever be lesser to true wizards, even if they came to treat Voldemort with the awe and respect he felt he deserved.

I don't think he was of the opinion that they should all die, however. They would need to be shown their place, firmly below everyone else. Thus a hypothetical muggleborn who worshipped the ground Voldemort walked on (Muggleborn!Bellatrix) would probably be reasonably well received, though certainly not respected or treated as equal.

Unless he had a plan to prevent Muggleborns from even being born, he'd have to have some sort of system to deal with them when they arose. That could be a caste system or something like it, but could just be infanticide I suppose.

We don't really know a lot about Voldemort's long-term plans for ruling, do we?

The only thing we know about Voldemort is when Jo said that he would see in the Mirror of Erised himself as being all-powerful and eternal. I guess that was his end goal, to live forever and rule the entire world as the god-emperor.

I think muggleborns are too tainted by their parents for Voldemort to consider them worth anything. He tortured Charity Burbage and murdered her at the start of Deathly Hallows after taunting her about her views on muggles, which suggests to me that he does see blood as being important. While said perspective is tainted by his egotism and megalomania, I don't think he'd be put out at all if his underlings decided to go on a Britian-wide mudblood murderthon.

Hell, he'd probably join them to points, just because he can.

So, a different but related question: how would Voldemort think about an adopted Muggleborn, raised as a Pureblood?
Assume he (or she) is average in all aspects.

He wouldn't think much of them at all, they're not powerful in any way. He'd probably just ignore them.

Well he might kill them if he needed to make a point to the family, or blood traitors in general.

I think its clear that Voldemort enjoys murder and torture, in general, not just on muggleborns. He especially enjoys murder and torture on people that defy him, which does tend to include any and all muggleborns.
