not sure if there is a thread about this out there, if there is i couldn't find it. this has been bugging me for a while now, and im not sure if mrs rowling has said anything on it, i havent seen anything, but how did voldemort get his wand from the potters house? i cant remember reading or hearing anything about it, i've read one story that had the rat there with him and he took the wand, after voldie died/whatever it was that happened to him(i know he didnt die), and left, but i doubt that is what happened but maybe. anybody know anything or have any ideas?

Yeh I think it was Wormtail but it may have only been mentioned briefly in cannon, we know that Wormtail had it in GOF when he resurected Voldemort so it would fit.

It was in a Stained Future fic, I remember...where Harry picks up the wand and keeps it hidden, then practices with it.

 

the fic i was thinking of was essences of lily by rdg2000, its a story im betaing, good story by the way.

 

Im gonna say wormtail got it. I just think that if wormtail didnt go with Voldemort to the Potter's that night that Dumbledore would have done all he could to get that wand to keep it from his followers hands.

 

How would Wormtail keep it secret in the Weasley's house for 12 years while he was in rat form? And how would he have it with him when he ran away? I think its just a mistake that JKR made.

 

if he did have it which is most probable even if it isnt mentioned, from what the books have shown, when an animagus turns from human to animal they keep their clothes and possessions. otherwise wouldnt mcgonagall have been naked both at the dursleys when harry was dropped off and in class when ron and harry were late yr 1? so he had it on him when he transformed and kept it while so, but if that is the case why not use it when he was caught in the shrieking shack? so maybe he didnt have it then?? someone should ask Jo.

 

Yeah, that's true, but in the third book, Wormtail didn't have a wand on him. He had to try to use Ron's wand, but Harry and hermy disabled him, so he transformed.

Maybe Voldemort's wand just has protections on it :/

 

Maybe, when Peter was helping Voldemort return, Voldemort ordered him to return to Godric's Hollow and retrieve the wand. Everyone else thought it was destroyed when his body was vaporized.

 

I doubt that. If that was the place Voldemort died it would have been gone over with a fine comb. If Dumbledore or the aurors couldn't find it Peter had no fucking chance.

 

Did Rowling not say that there was someone else there that night? We find out who in the next book, but he or she would have collected the wand.

If not, it is plausible that since Voldemort had spies and informants throughout the ministy, one of them collected it when aurors turned up to investigate the house (which is what I am assuming took place)

 

it does seem to be a bit of a plot hole, might be explained in the next fic i suppose.never know. as far as i am concerned wormtail would of had it on him and was either too stupid to use in the shack or couldnt becase of charms. does nobody else think that wormtail would of trabsformed back a few times while with weasleys though, even just to remember the feeling or something, cant see him staying in rat form that long constantly, is it even possible.

 

I cannot believe that JK Rowling has left a tiny hole in the fabric of Harry Potter, maybe she will address this in book seven.

Personally, I don't think JKR would leave a plot whole like that, but hey it could happen. My opinion is that Wormtail had it on him, when he transformed, and it stayed with im in his clothes. The reason he probably didn't use it in book three, because if he would have failed to escape, like he almost did, then he would have been in deep shit. And then Voldemort would no longer have a wand, so it was probably in his best interest to not reveal he had it, and to try and steal Ron's.

 

Or simply forgot he had it until he found Voldemort. Thirteen years is a long time to have something that you would hardly think about.

 

I'm pretty sure canon's never touched on what happened or where Voldemort's wand went. I mean there's the whole how'd the Fidelius go down, was Voldemort's body destroyed or disappeared, and how did they figure out so quick that the Dark Lord was dead, and a baby survived an unblockable curse for the first time ever. Then you wonder how McGonagall had to question Albus about whether it was "true," despite the average Wizards already partying in the street, and then why the heck was she observing the Dursleys all day.

We're looking for facts and logic in fiction, when JKR can just change her mind and say something that changes all the rules.

Wormtail had to betray the secret. What that means, what that does, whether he was there... speculate all you want. Canon's not really said much about it.

 

I'm siding with Crouch Jr. stole it from Dumbledore while he was at Hogwarts.
