I never said Harry couldn't be taken down by them. I said even if they knew he was using magic to get around they couldn't to a damn thing to stop him from appearing where ever the hell he pleased. Mostly because it is magic and technology will not stop magic.

As for if they were designed to do anything else then that all depends on exactly how paranoid Harry is now that he knows someone is after him. Those shield hats that the twins came up with would stop almost any attack that they could throw at him unless they poisoned him but there are ways for wizards to detect that as well.

Actually, a part of me wonders how drugs would even work on someone like Harry. We know that wizards are a bit more durable than a normal muggle when it comes to the damage they can take and there is a good argument for them being able to see better as well. Harry could spot a snitch from the other side of a quidditch pitch filled with players. So, would the normal dose even effect him properly? Or would they need to overdose him with poison just so it would have an effect?

It's up the the author, but I think the argument could be made for it. The only thing we've ever really seen cause wizards issues in canon are magical illnesses.

I think people may have missed the part where my cheering charm idea was supposed to be a humorous thing not something to be seriously considered...

Well, I don't know - for all we can tell, Harry might well have become a Potions master back in his world. That said, I'm pretty sure Snape was the only one in canon who could brew it, so unless Harry is very good, no, he won't be able to.

Yeah, you have to take it a week in advance, once per day, IIRC. I was joking when I said 'chuck it', but it's not like Harry is going to be able to convince Banner to drink this strange, slightly smoking liquid that tastes bloody disgusting once, let alone half a dozen times.

Harry would probably burn through a sedative faster than a normal human would. thats just my opinion though.

The notion that nothing should be able to bring Harry down, I assume. Probably the same reason why Harry must, obviously, have a very easy, very fast way of combating everyone.

Probably on what some people argue - that wizards have more resistant bodies than normal humans (their ability to shrug off injures in Quidditch that would kill Muggles).

Reducio could be a problem, lol.

    HULK SMASH!

    Reducio!

    HULK SMASH!

I think the only way to make any fight work between them is to give the Hulk magically resistant skin. I'm sure some hand wave could be invented for why the Hulk has such a protection in a world with no wizards.

I agree. Either the Hulk and maybe certain other characters need buffs, or Harry needs to be debuffed in some way. It seems like HP magic just has this insane advantage over everyone.

Thanks to Taure's post, I'm now imaginging a Hulk that comes up to Harry's knees, smashing up the place.

And speaking in a Pinky and Perky-style voice.

"Hulk smash!" the pint-sized behemoth squeaked.

Now this right here is why I've ignored most of the discussion in this thread so far. While yes, the magic from HPverse is capable of ass whooping any one of the avengers, that does not mean that Harry is able to do that. Harry is not the greatest wizard, he does not always make the correct decisions. So while yes, a simple cheering charm might be enough to stop the Hulk, that doesn't mean Harry is ever going to even think of using a cheering charm in a fight with the Hulk.

Harry is not overpowered, HP magic is overpowered. There's a difference.

Roarian has already established that, whatever is going on in Stark's arc reactor, it's a magical artefact. The Asgardians also use magic. What we're supposed to understand, I think, is that once you reach a suitably advanced level of technology, what you start to do is play around with magic.

I expect the Tesseract is the most magical object on Earth. In the beginning of the Avengers film, it's kept in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Joint Dark Energy Mission before Loki steals it. This suggests it has something to do with dark energy. Dark energy is also used by Odin to 'conjure' Thor to Earth, or at least that is Loki's assumption. The Tesseract is able to open portals, which is effectively what the Bifrost did before Thor hammered it. Seems to be a connection between all these means of instantaneous travel, if you ask me. So perhaps dark energy is actually magic. *shrug*

In any case, the Tesseract emits gamma radiation, which we all know is the reason Banner turns into the Hulk. It could be that whatever transformative process Banner used also tapped into some sort of magical phenomenon. This would all obviously only apply to Wand and Shield and not the canon movie universe, since there's not meant to be any magic there at all - it's just very advanced technology.

By this reasoning, the Hulk could have some magical resistance, but I doubt it, since gamma radiation is something the Tesseract emits, but not magical in its own sense.

I wouldn't want to reduce things to the level of 'magic is just another form of energy' as some have said, though - I think it more closely fits with Clarke's third law, here.

Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Harry's not from this universe - though others may approximate magic in various ways to the point that even Harry recognizes the similarities, he has the real deal, no tech required.

As for the Hulk - I can't imagine his mind being very susceptible to most of Harry's spells when he's enraged and willing to smash, and stuff like the unforgivables he'd be hesitant in throwing around. Physically he could be hurt pretty thoroughly but he does heal rather quickly.

Also the tiny Hulk concept is hilarious! :D

I completely agree with this post. Let magic stay as it is. It is a power totally unassociated with the laws of physics, biology, or any other science. Yes, let the cheering charm be capable of dehulking the Hulk. Just don't have the idea of a cheering charm occur to Harry. After all, when staring down a raging green behemoth of destruction, who would actually think of something so simple as a first year spell such as the cheering charm? Let any flaws when potentially fighting the Avengers or any other enemy lay with Harry, not magic in general.

Whatever high level opponent HP fights ...once they're semi resistant to magic[Hulk, Thor]...he's going to need to rely on movement. He's not fast enough to move out of the way, so he's going to need to aparate. Even Natasha or Hawk would beat the crap out of him if he doesn't get a spell off first.

PS. Does the invisibility cloak shield you from an AK? Considering its supposed to hide you from death..

I'm not sure if this post makes me want to nudge you back in the direction of Bloodsack, or keep you far, far away from it until the sickness passes.

You thay that like ith completely thilly. :awesome

I've seen the idea that wizards metabolize things like muggle drugs faster because 'magic'.

    It's not an unthinkable idea...

    No. Just no.

    One of the largest problems with fanfiction is all the hurp durp nerf handwaving that goes on to artificially create conflict. Please don't perpetuate this practice. ;_;

Huh, finally caught up after not really checking out WbA since the initial first 4 chapters went up, loving the cross-over thus far considering I'm one of the few who probably hasn't touched a comic in their life so having the film adaptations works for me at least.

Not really much else to add which hasn't already been mentioned by others, I kind of want to say "can we not just wait for the next update, and see what Harry does?" rather than crawl through pages of speculation akin to Santi's story but... I guess that would take some (if not most) of the current gusto out of the thread, and the fun whilst waiting for an update so...

Paimon: I agree with you that often forced conflict is bad.

However, if you build the handwave into the world itself, rather than the usual practice of character inconsistency, I think it's less bad (though still not perfect, but crossovers are a bitch when it comes to balanced conflict).

I mean, without something like what you quoted this fic is going to just be watching HP going around being awesome.

Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't read that. I would, and still love it lol. But some conflict would be nice too.

Hulk, in the comics, is magic resistant.

    From wiki:
...possesses less commonly described powers, including abilities allowing him to "home in" to his place of origin in New Mexico, resist psychic control, or unwilling transformation; grow stronger from radiation or dark magic; and to see and interact with astral forms
