I have edited it slightly in the FFnet version that's not up yet, though the cheering charms stay in it's not quite the cure-all that it seemed in the DLP version. It would probably be pretty effective on regular Banner, though.

It's not a drastic difference but it does make Harry seem a little less overly powerful. (Even if HP magic really can be.)

Pretty much - though I'm making the cheering charm a bit less OP in the FFnet version to avoid making Hulk a pussy.

 

I definitely enjoyed the utilisation of the cheering as well.

Keep it up, continuing to love this story.

 

The rewrite was certainly interesting. Definitely changed the end dynamic of the fight. Didn't see much problem with it before, but oh well.

Also, you missed a small potential humor moment--pants stretched out to Hulk size don't exactly stay on someone Banner's size.

 

Regarding the slightly rewritten ending : I didn't want to make it seem too simple to take him out, 2. I still had a rifle above the fireplace that hadn't been shot, and 3. based on some comments by chatters on the IRC.

I considered it, but since people are already going all 'This is gunna b slash I can tell' I didn't want to give them the ammunition.

 

Ah, one more thing - isn't Dumbledore used some kind of powerful spell on Voldemort in their duel? If I recall Voldemort used Transfiguration, AK, conjured silver shield and possession on Harry.

Interesting. Nicely written fight scene. Harry wasn't exploiting his magic to its maximum extent, but that's realistic. He hasn't had time to think about what parts of magic would be best to use against something like the Hulk. As it is he's relying on his training and experience, trying to adapt on the spot, with variable results.

If they ever fight again, I'd expect him to fight smarter (featherlight charm on the Hulk, cushioning charms on his fists, spells that don't do direct damage like petrification, taranallegra, impedimenta).

Good work, all in all.

I guess my only complaint would be that when it occurred to Harry to use transfiguration, it didn't occur to him to directly transfigure the Hulk but rather the terrain - which the Hulk has demonstrated he can destroy easily.

But again, that goes back to the point above of having to think on his feet.

 

I like that this wasn't a curb stomp because Harry didn't want to permanently damage or kill banner. I also like the edge this display will give Harry in discussion with Fury.

Good chapter, fight scene was well written.

 

I agree that a rematch would probably be different - for one, Harry would know to end the fight early and decisively as prolonging just makes it progressively tougher. Regarding directly transfiguring the Hulk: Is such a thing ever done canonically? I figured it might be possible but I didn't really think of it. The only case I can remember is the ferret incident, now.

Well, that was certainly a happy ending. Honestly didn't expect a Cheering Charm of all things to finish off the Hulk.

Does this mean Harry has to hit Banner with a Cheering Charm every few days?

Also, if he's going the route of having the Hulk be resistant to magic rather like a giant, transfiguration probably wouldn't work anyway.

Was it the cheering charm? I thought that the narrative made it clear that it wasn't the cheering charm that stopped the Hulk, but rather something more mysterious. Related to the cheering charm, perhaps, but not the cheering charm on its own.

 

It seemed pretty clear-cut to me. Multiple cheering charms. I could be wrong, but I don't really see where it indicates it could have been anything else.

 

It looks like it was something other than just the cheering charm.
