I don't know if Fanfiction.net have ever heard of warning the author before removing his story. Not even any indication that they would remove or ban they just do it. It's really annoying.

I think they somethimes do apparently. But I haven't heard of any examples of authors who'd been warned (without their fic taken down).

I am so mad at FF.net right now that I cant even rant properly. A few of my fav stories have been deleted, and those are the only ones that iv noticed so far…god knows how many have been deleted that I just haven’t checked. One story that was deleted has been completed for months and it was deleted without even telling the author what was wrong, they just axed it…gah im not even making sense right now…im leaving to go skiing for a few hours.

Yeah... the more I think about it, the more I wonder if fanfiction.net goes out of their way to anger and frustrate authors. Every other site treats their authors with more respect than the readers, as they realize without the authors they would have no site. If you're an author, you're far more vulnerable to abuse at fanfiction.net than anywhere else.

Fanfiction.net is huge. Massive. They can piss off and alienate every decent author in the world, with barely any affect on them. Maybe they don't like good stories getting tons of hits while other stories don't generate so much traffic for them. Dunno.

But their policy of delete first, investigate later is shitty. I mean you'd think it'd be easier to warn an author about a violation. And with the messaging system now, how hard would it be to send out a copy of an abuse report (anonymously) and give the author a day or two to fix or address the problem. For now, it seems the policy is to make an example out of everybody.

And it's easy to bitch about them, and be frustrated. But this isn't the first time they've gone on delete sprees. Sometimes better, more popular authors have had longer fics with more reviews toasted. It's frustrating when it's you. But you shouldn't be surprised by it anymore.

I can't get the South Park movie out of my head. I keep picturing Saddam Hussein singing "I can change, I can change..." It's too bad we sometimes forget with fanfiction.net is the evil empire for a reason. Bunch of baby raping kitten eaters.

Once again you've hit the nail on the head. They just see numbers. It's like an army of ants. The Queen ant won't give a crap if a few of the most powerful soldier ants die because there are hundred of others that can work just as well.

And that bit about making it seem fair kinda makes sense. Most people (sadly) rate a story by its review count. By deleting popular fics, it may mean that more people will read the fics with lower review counts. But on the other hand, if this is the case, it's a ridiculous, slightly communist view that targets well-written fics.

I think they are probably trying to reinforce their rules by making the most popular authors abide them.

Imagine Nonjon and that CocoaButter girl both having polls and review responses.

Maybe 50 or so people will see CocoaButter's excuse for a story and then try to oblivate themselves from the crap they've seen. She can pretty much break whatever rules she likes and that won't have any particular effect on the site as whole.

But tens of thousands of people read Nonjon's works. And at least a hundred of them are authors themselves. And at least some of them will figure: Ah, nonjon has polls and review responses, so it's ok then.

In other words, popular authors determine the FFN's outlook to the average fanfic reader. And if they say "fuck the rules", then the rules are deemed meaningless on the whole.

From FFN's point of view, the only way for the site as whole to follow the rules would be to make the most popular authors do it. However cruel it may sound, it's just a matter of mathematics and statistics to them.

As to why wouldn't they send out warnings instead of jumping on a DEL key, that's because they are a bunch of evil shitbags who deserve to have their eyes gorged out with dentist tools and made to eat them, while their balls are being tugged off by rusty piano wires... eh, you get my drift.

Oh, and coz of money too - not having the admins have to check the same story multiple times to see if the author changed the offending content = less admins required to handle the site = more $$$ to the site owners. Simple solutions are sometimes the correct ones.

It also could be they just don't pay much attention to violations and abuse. And obviously the fics that get the most readers and recommendations and reviews, are the ones where people are more likely to complain.

That's why I'm more likely to think it'd be a spiteful competitor, someone else with a HP/Stargate story or something like that who would report Shezza's HP/Stargate fic. The Harry/Ginny fans or slash authors probably could care less, at least if we're going to generalize and classify people into groups.

But a shitty fic that no one notices will sit forever while more popular fics like Egyptian Flame's will get reported by other authors or fans of other authors fics. And the highly flawed system just responds to the abuse.

Most of the time though, we don't want to report things like review responses or polls/chats/long author's notes, scenes that are too graphic or fics rated too low because we don't care and it'd be easier on us if things like that were allowed. The problems arise when others get away with it, or we assume things are allowed, and it's too late when we realize they aren't.

One thing, I'm going to get into the habit of doing, is whenever I post a new chapter, I'm going to go back and delete most of the previous chapter's author's notes. Went through my fics earlier and deleted 90% of my author's notes, as usually they're out of date and useless by the next update.

No, I don't think these latest deletions are being done by following abuse reports. Too many fics are being harrased for it to be logical.

I think this is sort of a new year cleaning of HP section - admins probably have a list of all stories sorted by their popularity and they're going through it story by story, checking out the content and deleting whatever they don't like.

I have a feeling my story will probably get ripped eventually. I could see it happening easy. Same with Vash's story too. Matter of time, perhaps?

I'd like a warning first though... then I know why its missing and see if maybe I could change the offending part. Meh...

FF.net has a lot... and i mean A LOT of problems. Every popular authour that i've heard of there like Master Slytherin, Egyptian flame, TD master.... (don't just stop at HP and think of any other categories, like DragonballZ, Sailor Moon, Naruto, Smallville, X men, and stuff...)

You think that the FF.net owners care? The mentioned authors above, i simply ADORED their fics! But they took down Egyptian Flame's 'Independence of a Hero' fic, and didn't even blink (not literally i mean). Now i'm ranting-- i hate it when i do that.

It's just not fair. But saying that won't help.

Egyptian Flame's as well as a bunch of other fics. FF.Net had a delete-a-thon. Our own bornagainpenguin saved many of them at the yahoo group HPRecycleBin, thus the title "Master Archiver".

I believe that Egyptian reposted Independence on FF.net. I think that I started to reread it, but I got sidetracked.
