If I remember correctly the "Watchmen" movie is planned on being roughly four hors long. In addition there will be a direct to dvd release of a movie adaptation of "Tales of the Black Freighter".

The trailer looks interesting. Enough so to warrant a trip to the library.

 

Dr. Manhattan. He's actually just a single dude who replicates himself so he can multitask.

 

Movie is going to be awesome if the trailer is anything to go by. Can't wait to see Rorschach do his thing, the "I'll whisper "No"" quote was pure genius.

 

And he can vaporize niggas.

I loved the trailer and it inspired me to re-read Watchmen. Man, there are more words in that "comic" than fifty issues of most comics.

I think they'll need to cut the "comic within a comic" stuff, and all the clippings/excerpts at the end of issues stuff, but I can see it working and still keeping most of the meaning.

Probably what's annoyed me the most is that they changed the drop of blood on the smiley face. On that apple page with the trailer it just looks like splotch that doesn't even reach the center. But in the comics the drop of blood was a visual clue imitating an arrow on the face of a clock, indicating the countdown to the end of the world as we know it theme.

Maybe it's their way of saying, "We didn't really get everything in the comics, so those themes won't really be visible."

I did love the way so many of the shots in the trailer matched frames from the comic. Kinda the way Sin City worked.

Either way, I'm geeked to see how well they can pull it off.

 

I perused the script, and it seemed faithful enough to the comic, based on having read it years ago, though the villain's method of executing his plan is radically different, as the original version would have eaten up a lot of screen time. It does keep the end result and the "I did it twenty minutes ago" line.

 

A DVD will be released either just before or right after the initial theater release of the movie. It will have an animated version of "Tales of the Black Freighter", the comic in the comic, as well as a documentary about the previous era of superhero's, titled "Under the Hood".

There is also the possibility of an extended release of Watchmen, which will include the "Tales of the Black Freighter", at some point in the future as well.

 

Well, the general impression Snyder gave off at Comic Con was that he has next to no faith in his own movie. Sounded like he was already making excuses, starting every other sentence with "Look..." and all that. You know something's amiss when someone asks a director "How awesome is this film going to be" and they give anything less than an enthusiastic "VERY" in reply.

 

Maybe. He's probably scared to death of the fans. This is the greatest graphic novel of all time he's adapting, it'll either make or break his career. He's visibly nervous.

 

I think it's a bit of a risk adapting something like this into a feature length film. While I'm looking forward to seeing it, I've always thought movies like Watchmen, V for Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen would have been much better off developed as a television series, so as to get the whole story in. I guess we'll just have to cross our fingers.

 

I saw the trailer of this when I went to see TDK the other day.

I have never even heard of Watchmen, but this looks off the hook. I'll probably see if I can dl the graphic novel somewhere on the internets.

 

New trailer

Not a lot of new things, but it does remind me of how awesome this movie looks. I pray to god they don't fuck it up. Dr Manhattan looks like he's full of epic win.

 

I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice the change in the blood drop, but the trailer, while not jumping from frame to frame, covers so much that I had trouble keeping up.

I second whoever said this was the greatest graphic novel ever. I have the original twelve-comic edition; I wonder how much they're worth now? That set, and the original 4-issue Wolverine mini-series, are about all the comics I have left from when I was a comics addict in the eighties...

Alan Moore is a phenomenally creative writer, and I'm hoping against hope that the makers of the movie can do the story justice. Of course things will have to be cut, but the casting has looked to be spot-on, and the imagery indicates the screen writers acknowledge how dark and fucked up that world was supposed to be.

I'm excited to hear about extra stuff on the DVD like the Black Freighter and the heroes' backstory that was in the comics.

I just saw the trailer and I'm buying the comic book this weekend. I've heard of it but I've never read the book. The movie looks awesome and I can't wait. I wonder if their going to do a movie for the Sandman comics. I hope they don't screw up this movie like they've done to the live action Dragonball movie. If you want to see a trailer of epic fail watch that one. Street Fighter looks like crap too.

 

I gotta go against folks here. I didn't like the comic at all. I read it awhile ago and thought it was boring, cluttered in places, and some of the characters made me cringe.

Dr. Manhattan's pretty awesome though, I really loved the bit about how God's here, and he's American. A few other things I liked, like what happens when heroes fall sort of angle, but that's been done to death.

The movie looks like it'll be awesome special effect wise, but I just couldn't enjoy much of the comic.

On topic: I'm excited for Watchmen; I too haven't read the series, and plan to pick it up this weekend.

 

Ahh... remember when people were collecting comic books as an investment for the future? I think I was about five and I still knew it was a stupid idea. Still... the original series must be worth a pretty penny, most of the people who bought them were probably fans unwilling to let them go.

This is me slightly jealous and I haven't even read the series.
