This is pretty much the definition of 'fanfiction'.

Did you have something more specific in mind?

GoF and DH both hint rather heavy-handedly that Fleur is probably lower middle class, if not lower class.

Some rich person isn't going to give a shit about 1000 galleons (5000 GBP or @ 7,691.13 USD). Sure, they might be pissed to lose that sort of cash, but I would wager that middle to upper middle class, and certainly not the rich would not risk their lives for 1000 galleons. Hell, probably not even a member of the lower middle-class.

The other hint is in DH: Fleur's mother comes to the wedding and is specifically noted as being very good at household charms (cleaning, sewing, cooking, etc . . .) and that she and Molly got on well talking about such mundane charms. Basically, Mrs. Delacour is good at being a house elf just like Molly because neither the Weaslys, and it seems to me at least, nor the Delacours could afford a house elf.

I bet Fleur grew up in the French equivalent of the Borrow in Aubervilliers or La Courneuve.

A fiction piece that follows the general plotlines of the books instead of drastically veering off into A/U territory (mainly with author invented additions), but doesn't have Harry as such a brainless/unrealistic moron as per canon? I don't think I've actually seen many of those...

Edit for Rin's post: yeah, there do seem to be allot of hints indicating this.

Do you know which character was even more awesome?

It turns out that Blaise was the coolest. In one interview, Rowling said that he asked for a Smart ForTwo when his parents offered him a car.

tl;dr - Boo for Bill because he got half of all the official hotties in the HP universe.

I'm a convert. And it gave me Harry ****ing Potter flashbacks. ...and now I want to see Bill in a role like McLaggen's. >.>

    On Topic:

Not only has Fleur had time to grow up, and change as a person (as previously stated), a person will also generally put up with a lot of shit from the family of a person they genuinely care about/love. She's probably got better patience than most, with the amount of practice her Veela heritage would give her, as well.

I'll generally agree with the consensus: Fleur grew up a bit, Bill is a badass and their pairing is easy enough to rationalise given what little screentime they got from Harry's POV. Remus/Tonks, on the other hand...

    :awesome Just awesome.

Well, I'll just go ahead and confess that Bungle was the first full-length HP fanfic that I read and truly enjoyed, and it therefore cemented in my mind that Indiana Jones, Resident Evil, and Harry Potter can coexist quite nicely.

Bill is not hard to envision as a true badass, and that is all.

I can see Bill/Fleur, but not Remus/Tonks. What on Earth was JKR smoking or drinking when she thought up that pairing? Was she just determined to get all the characters hooked up, or something?

Aside from her wierd fixation with getting Hermione (although she's a plain girl, she could still do better than slob!Ron who basically verbally and mentally abuses her through-out the series) and slob!Ron together (who basically abandons Harry and Hermione at the drop of a hat over petty jealousy issues), there's also Harry and the Gin!slut fangirl.

Hell, I think even a mid-teen fanfiction writer could pen better romance than her!

Except it's more like 15,000 GBP, and note that she says "many" -- she herself, of course, is not in it for the money but for honour :awesome

(And the thing with household charms means only that Apolline isn't a total snob and has fun doing house stuff). Poor!Fleur is as lame as paperpusher!Bill and I don't wanna hear about it >_>

I wondered that for the longest time, until I read a FF that made everything so obvious. There is one, exactly one reason why Tonks would hook up with Remus: she's wonderfully kinky and gets a thrill out of dating a werewolf. (Sex five minutes before Moon included.)

Ugh, I felt for Ron in the HR ship. Can you imagine their sex life? Since Hermione does not care about her physical appearance on a day to day basis, she probably isn't into landscaping down under either. I pity any man who has to deal with that bush.

Apparently there are a lot of Bill Weasley fans, but I don't get why.
From a different point of view, he's just a male and older version of Ginny.

At the start she was some kind of cute fangirl, who got mind-raped by Riddle and three years later she's suddenly a mix of Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie, who is always perfect little Miss Sunshine with a tragic past .

Bill is some kind of supercool wizard Indy, who got raped by Greyback, and is suddenly even cooler, because of his scars. Don't mention that he has a Veela to fondle him.

By now it's probably clear, that I'm no Weasley-fan. IMO the whole bunch is family of Mary/Gary Sues with a few bad eggs.

    Bill - already mentioned
Charlie - works with dragons (even more badass than Bill)
Percy - Bad egg + model student
Fred and Georg - the oh so funny prankster (ADHD somebody)
    Ron - Bad egg + Chess-champion + bastard
    Ginny - mentioned above
    Arthur - the hardworking father
Molly - super-mum who kills Bellatrix

Sorry for the rant, but can somebody tell me five bad traits of Bill Weasley ???

Well about about Canon/Harry... everybody knows he should have been killed 1981.

Nope. Arcane magic via Lily. That, I can buy, simply by the nature of the lore. Also, with Riddle being so unstable at that point a sneeze could of broken away another part of his already quite mangled soul.

Gin!slut as it was written in canon, I cannot buy.

Don't get me wrong, if someone in the fandom actually wrote a realistic and well thought out Harry/Ginny pairing/pairing setup (aka, not what JKR wrote and that which ruthlessly destroys the 'fan-girl' aspect Ginny had as apart of her character), I'd read it. But, the canon incarnation was simply just terrible and hard to read.

"Monster in his chest." 'Nuff said.

I know why he didn't die that night, but I was trying to say that Canon/Harry should have been killed that moment, because he will grow to be a pussy.

The strange thing about pairings is, that I can enjoy them as long as they are well written and somewhat realistic, but if I were to go by Canon/girls it would be good-written-Fanon/Harry + Canon/Fleur.

    About Fleur's family,
I think they're of average wealth, just a comman family with attractive females.

I remember a story of mine where Ginny took Angelina's role in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Twas fun.

You're probably getting canon and fanon mixed up. In canon we have no idea what Bill's job entails outside of the fact that he lived in Egypt for awhile, then moved to Shell Cottage; we don't even know for sure that he worked while living at Shell Cottage.

And we don't have much evidence to say that Fred and George were "pranksters" per se either. Almost every "prank" we see involves either a product they sell or an attempt at developing one. With the evidence from canon, they could also easily be interpreted as shrewd businessmen with creativity and a talent for unorthodox magic. International businessmen, in fact, since they imported Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder - presumably they have a contact either in Peru or they went their themselves for it.

Not quite sure what you mean by "Bad Egg" in Ron. He gets shirty as a fourteen year old in GoF - that's the only time he doesn't stick by Harry, really. And in Deathly Hallows, where he is influenced by the horcrux, immediately tries to come back only to find Harry and Hermione missing. I believe there was a post by Sesc or Pers or someone else more intelligent than I who debunked the fanon influence we all suffered concerning Ron; short of it was he was pretty much a bro's pal all through the series, even if he wasn't the greatest at magic.

I won't defend Ginny because I'm POSITIVE that your opinion of her is mostly based on terrible Harry/Ginny stories; if you reread Half-Blood Prince, I doubt you'd find much evidence for your opinion of her. That said, the argument that she doesn't have as much presence as she perhaps should, and that JKR is a terrible romance author isn't a terrible one.

The only Weasley I won't defend is Molly, because I also think it's ridiculous that she kills Bellatrix. In my mind, Bellatrix lives on to torture another day and all was good in the world.

In summary, I think you're wrong about the Weasleys canonically being self-inserts/Mary Sues/etc. In fanon, sure. But like most of us who go through the cycle that Taure's mentioned a few times here, you'll get over your reactional Weasley-hate eventually, I'm sure.

Now, that's a good idea for fic. Because of Molly inexperience with Killing Curse, she only stunned Bellatrix (something like nosebleed Moody/Barty Jr. was talking about).

After Voldemort death, when everyone celebrate, she wakes up and seeing what happened, quickly Disapparated (maybe after transfiguring something to look like her body). From there we have bloodthirsty witch killing one by one everyone responsible for her master death.
