Just kinda curious what everyone would think would've happened if Sirius hadn't actually fallen through the veil.

Well for one we wouldnt have lot's of great Harry independent story's where he go's to the bank and discover's he's the new Lord black and then kick's the old coot's arse, Sirius dying did a lot for producing great fanfiction.

Ehhh, depends how you look at it. There are some good fictions that are like that, of course. The thousands of cliche's that sprung from it afterward, though, each worse than the one that came before it, kinda take the joy out of the few good ones.

    Hmm, If Sirius survives...

First off, does Dumbledore tell Harry the prophecy? Probably, but we don't get to see Harry throw stuff around DD's office and scream at him. If Sirius supports DD expect Harry to possibly become even closer to DD than he does in canon.

Second, Is Sirius pardoned? Not by Fudge but maybe by Scrimgeur in an effort to get an 'in' with Harry and show that the ministry is fixing Fudges mistakes. Possible Poster-boy Sirius instead of Poster-boy Harry.

Harry and Sirius talking throughout the book using the mirrors. Harry actually finding out some more facts about his parents. Harry getting some extra training from Sirius.

No spending an entire book wondering who the HBP is as Harry can just ask Sirius and find out. Sirius asking to vet the spells but telling Harry that the potion instructions should be good. Much Snape-bashing.

Sirius going with Harry on the Horcrux hunt, Sirius coming to Hogwarts in the battle at the end of the book, and Sirius making an appearance in the running battle at the end are all possibilities.

Nah, Sirius needed to die so Harry would stop being a bitch. But if he lived, he probably would have died in the battle at the end of HBP. The only legitimate reason to keep Sirius alive would be for things like comic relief and moral support. I can see him in a Post-Hogwarts fashion, but we all know that JK's not going to write that.

What point is there in saving him in OotP only to kill him in HBP?

Legitimate reasons for keeping Sirius alive would depend on what you planned to do with him. On!the!run!Sirius is mostly good for moral support and advice. With the mirrors he and Harry would talk a lot more and they could bond and/or fight. He would also serve as another sticking point between Harry and the ministry. Have him get caught at the end of HBP.

Then there is Sirius as a political bargaining chip. The minister wants Harry's backing and could use the promise of Sirius's freedom to lure/threaten Harry into a deal.

There's a lot that could be done with a living Sirius if you want to touch on ministry politics and back-room dealings. You don't even have to get in depth with it, just have a couple scenes of Sirius or Dumbledore explaining what was going on and introducing Harry to the way things work. Of course that would mean less screen-time for figuring out who the half-blood prince is.

What if Sirius did not fall through the veil...

1.) He would still be alive.
2.) DD might not have felt guilty enough to tell Harry the Prophesy
3.) Harry would not have gotten Kreacher and #12 (he did get #12, didn't he?)
4.) Many great and not so great fanfic's would not have been written.
5.) Dark Lord Potter might not exist in it's current form. *gasp*

    ...Harry would be a P-U-S-S-Y!

End of story. Voldemort wins by jamming his wand up Harry's...yeah...and AKing him while Harry's still polishing his wand so it looks pretty for the "final battle".

I think that if Sirius hadn't fallen through the veil, we would've discovered what kind of agonizingly fatal curse Bella had fired at him.

If Sirius hadn't fallen through the veil, then the fangirls wouldn't have to come up with bullshit ways to bring him back. For the sake of our entertainment here at DLP, Sirius had to die, for if he hadn't, there would be one less reason to flame the fangirls.

I have to disagree there. I don't know if you've lost someone, but it takes a great deal of courage to suck it up and keep going that quickly (2 weeks). This isn't fanfiction. Harry's not going to spend the summer reading his old textbooks and get any better. He knows that stuff already. So what if we didn't see him learning new ownage spells. It would be unrealistic if he did. Dumbledore and Voldemort are powerful because they spent countless years to get that way. We see that he's still capable of whipping someone his age's ass i.e. Draco. So what if he didn't beat Snape? That would have stunk of Fanfictional glory. Harry's not a pussy, because he's accepted his fate, and resolved himself to overcome it. It really isn't about memorizing spells and tossing them at Voldemort, and that's what most of us think he should do. I don't know about you, but if someone handed me a knife, a basic training course, and a motivational booklet and told me to go kill the expert marksman with a sniper rifle across the field , I'd be scared shitless. So it's no different when lDumbledore gives Harry a wand, six years of education, and a prophesy and tells him to kill Voldemort.

How's he going to win. Don't know. But it'll be in a way that suits the story. Harry isn't a Voldie or a Dumbledore yet. He won't be for some time, but we sure as hell know he's a cut above the rest. Is that enough? In combination with whatever power he's got, yeah probably. It's not supposed to be easy for him, so I'm glad he didn't go gung ho and become a super-mage in Book 6.

It's harder to see that Harry's a typical hero because the book comes in installments, but if you look at something like the Matrix, Neo was a bitch before he beat the Agents. He couldn't even beat Morpheus, just like Harry couldn't beat Snape. Just wait, and I'm sure Harry will pull something out of the air and whoop ass like we've all been waiting for him to do.

I.E. A Deux-Ex Machina. Face it, in canon Harry is a pussy. He doesn't attempt to learn shit after finding out about the prophecy, he doesn't make any effort to train, he spends the whole book trying to chat up/follow Malfoy around. At this point in time Harry has neither the experience, the talent, nor the skill to beat Voldemort in a one-on-one battle. Therefore, a deux-ex machina is needed. Maybe rocks fall and everybody dies...

On the Sirius living note, you'd have a much happier Harry and someone who could teach him unorthodox styles of dueling (it takes more skill than you'd expect to pull off a good prank). If nothing else, you could have Harry training during the summer with Sirius, chances are he'd be arguing for Harry to be allowed in to The Order of the Phoenix so we'd probably see some training from Auror members. Plus, Sirius is much more likely to tell Harry things he's not meant to know about, like Malfoy's assignment and Snape's unbreakable vow.

Then again, Sirius is prone to giving in to his darker emotions (just look at the Sirius-Snape confrontation in OoTP) so we might see some minor dark arts being taught (fanfiction only I'm afraid :p) from when he was a bairn.

Anyways, chances are you'd get a much happier, and more trained Harry if Sirius lived. He may have even be allowed into the Order, which he still wasn't in HBP!

    Aekiel

EDIT: Just realised we've already got the biggest deux-ex machina in the books - Avada Kedavra!

But you've just completely proven my point, friend! Sirius' death was the wake-up call he (and everyone else) needed! Before that, everyone was just kinda tip-toeing around not doing much. Granted, they didn't do a whole lot more after his death, but they did more, nonetheless.

Sirius dead or not there wouldn't have been much difference in the HBP. JK was/is not ready to write about a free and smart Harry. So she came up with the stupid idea of keeping Sirius hidden using dumbass reasons for not clearing up his name.
What would have happened if Harry just printed the truth in the quib and asked the public to help him out by givin a free trial???

You're forgetting that he did. In OoTP he had the story of Voldemort's rebirth printed in the Quibbler, including Wormtail's place in it.

Plus, the public didn't side with Harry while he was being slandered by Fudge/Umbridge, so I don't see why they would believe him if he said Sirius Black was innocent. After all, it was common knowledge that Voldemort was dead and Sirius Black was his right-hand man.

You are right I had forgotten about the original books. The last canon I read was the HBP and that was the second day it released. Since then it’s been FF for me.
Conclusion-It’s good that Sirius is dead otherwise, we would have all these great Independent and powerful Harry fics.
