What loose ends need tying up?

As in, what would be necessary for a seventh year fanfic? There are some things that would have to be written if sticking closely to canon. For example, Bill and Fleur's wedding, Harry's final visit to the Dursleys, the destruction of the horcruxes... all that banter. Has anyone compiled a list of such things? It would be an excellent tool for writers going for a post-HBP fic(like myself), and help plot out what absolutely needs to be done. what could be done, and all that. I realize it would only be good for people sticking really close to canon, so that drastically reduces the amount of people who would use it, but still.

So if anyone would assist with this, your help will be much appreciated.

Hmm...not all of those loose ends need tying up - as a fanfic writer it is your decision over what is imporatant and what isn't. For example, you could skip the wedding completely if you think it's not important.

But personally, here are the things that I think need to be resolved in a seventh year story, if you are keeping strictly to canon:

-Wedding - good chance for shipping here.

-Leaving the Dursleys - JKR has said there's "more to Petunia than meets the eye".

-Godrics Hollow - what does Harry find there?

-How will the Order react to Harry going off and doing his own thing? (If he goes through with his decision to not go to Hogwarts).

-Searching and destroying the Horcruxes is obviously a must.

-Where does Harry stay/What does Harry do when hes not actively searching for Horcruxes? We he infact end up attending Hogwarts and only search for horcruxes in his free time?

-Will Harry finally get off his arse and practice his Occlumency, as he knows that's his weakness?

    -Is Snape good or bad?

    -A Harry/Snape confrontation/duel.

    -Where is Fawkes?

-Will we ever go to Azkaban? Perhaps they might go there to visit/interrogate Mundungous Fletcher, who may have stolen the locket horcrux from the Black house.

-What significance do Harry's eyes hold?

-How will Harry kill Voldemort with the power of love?

-What will Voldemort being doing while all this is happening? Don't fall for the common mistakes of having him just do random attacks that serve no cause (eg attacking Hogsmede). All of Voldemorts attacks are well planned presision strikes - the Death Eaters go in, achieve their aims and leave before they can be caught, they don't go on killing rampages in the Wizarding World for no purpose.

    -Who will die?

    -What is the veil?

I could proabably think of a few more but thats enough for now. Welcome to DLP and congratulations on making a good post.

Harry dies, taking Voldemort down. I'm very pessimistic about his chances of surviving the series, especially whn one of the major themes running through the series is that of sacrifice for those you love.

Don't forget that Harry own's the house at Grimmauld Place. He could live there and even lead the Order in Dumbledore's place.

While Snape is of great importance, Draco also played a part, and couldn't kill Dumbledore. Someone writing post-HBP could certainly do something with Draco. There is a lot of controversy surrounding his role in things.

While I also think Harry should die in the end, as it would make a sensational ending for the hero to die for the greater good, the prophecy also applies to Neville, doesn't it?

Passing through the veil renders a person dead, because JK said Sirius was dead, and dead is dead, but what if it could be used in the end? I'd hate to think that she mentioned this veil, and had Sirius fall through it, for no apparent reason, other than to get rid of Sirius. Especially since she has failed to explain it. It could have some very inventive use in a 7th yr fic. What if there was a way to trade places with someone on the other side? harry could die to fulfill the prophecy, and still live in the end due to someone else's sacrifice. Sorry, just meant to mention this and started wandering down an alley.

-What is the power in the locked room in the Department of Mysteries? (I assume it's love.)

I think so. The line about the "one with the power" is repeated twice in the prophecy. So, Harry may be marked and be the BWL, but he may die and then Neville steps up to the plate to finish off What's-His-Name.
