The first fanfic I ever read was reign O'er me although I wouldn't touch it with a ten feet pole now.
He somehow came up with Harry and Ginny having a soul bond and through that amazing powers of love.

please don't hate me I was ignorant at the time.

After the End was my intro to fanfiction as well, and I still say it's one of the best, with a couple caveats. It was written pre-OotP, so give it and the authors props for all they get right as far as canon
    (Harry/Ginny, Bill/Fleur, Weasleys lose a son)
and I really enjoyed the OCs. Ginny was fleshed out very well and while yes, there was a fuckton of angst, it was realistic that Harry would have issues after the upbringing he had in canon, and especially after the way the war played out in this fic. I had no problem with the way it was handled, and it was never, in my opinion, over the top. There was drinking, sex, Quidditch, dragons, flashbacks to the war, excellent OCs, a decent plot and the writing was better than almost any you'll find outside of the best DLP has to offer.

I've read god-knows-how-many HP fics (I don't count cross-overs since they're not often my cup of tea), and until the arrival of stories like Bungle in the Jungle, Back to the Garden, The Skitterleap and Renegade Cause, to name a few, it was in my top five fanfics of all time. I'd have a hard time narrowing the list to just five or ten nowadays, but After the End would still be a contender.

    Maybe I'm just sentimental?

The first fic I can really recall having any impression is LT2000's Dakaath: Prince of Darkness. I think the first I ever read was probably DBZ when DBZ was god's gift to mankind.

Good fic. I still have his page (and quite a few other Ranma fanfics) in my favorites. I still keep checking shadowchronicles.net for an update to Mark MacKinnon's Shadow Chronicles epic, even though it's been like 2 years since he updated.

Well, it appears that so far I'm the king of the nerds on this site in regards to reading fanfiction. I've been reading fanfiction on a consistent basis for 11 or so years now.

Nope, I don't feel pathetic at all. Really.

My first was a Naruto fic Naruto Reborn:Sasuke Uchiha, which really wasn't bad as far as firsts go, at least in the Naruto fandom. It led on to Team 8 which in turn led me to Nightmares of Futures Past and the HP fandom.

At this point all was good in the world, the ideas were still fresh to me, the possibilities unexplored, but it could not last. I was still ignorant of the horrors of slash, sinisterly lurking in the tall grasses of fan fiction like a coiled gay serpent, waiting to strike at the inexperienced and unwitting reader. At first I thought 'No, nobody would write those two doing that, it must just be close friendship'. I was wrong, and it was THERE and it could not be unseen.

T'was Barb for me. Got sent a link for a 'leaked copy' of Order of the Phoenix and it all spiraled into raw chaos from there.

To those of you who were introduced into this weird and woefully cliched world of HP fanfiction through my Hero Trilogy, I guess today I can only apologize. Heh. Although I did enjoy the story, even if the writing left something to be desired.

It wasn't everyone's cup of tea as it progressed.

I'm pretty sure it was a FFVII fic actually, one where Aerith's lost sister comes back, is superior to her in everything, falls for Cloud, and a massive angst-fest. It was still incredibly well written, though. Sadly, the private forums that housed it took it down, and the author's probably dead somewhere.

As far as actual fanfiction sites go, I discovered mediaminer before FFN. I think my first one there was Synica's Naruto fic 'Behind a Mask' or something.

Something about a Magnolia Rose Aurora Black who has a beautiful tragic relationship with Draco.

Fortunately, my tastes have progressed since then.

I can't remember the name, but mine was full of fail. It was 2004 (god I need a new hobby..) and the story included, h/ginny, richer than god harry, multiple animagus forms, heirs of multiple founders, wise, understanding Hermoine, jealous ron, incredible gred and forge, magical trunks, big shopping sprees, and richer/more powerful than god harry, and all sorts of fail, 6 years later and 90% of the stories out there still contain many of these cliches.

Melindaleo's post-OotP The Power of Emotion was my first fic. I think. Sib's Awakening Power may have been before.

Either way, SIYE was my first HP fanfic site. It actually took me a while to find FF.Net, and when I did I thought I had gone to heaven. So many stories! Ah, my bookmarks tab was so long, before I thought to get an account and favourite stuff. It was after I found FF.Net that I drifted into indy!Harry, starting with Scorpion Sorcerer. And it was Volorn ranting about DLP that led me here.

The first one was some Dutch fic that I can't remember the name of.
It was one on the Dutch equivalent of mugglenet and it was really bad.

Then I read some on mugglenet and later on harrypotterfanfiction where I read
'flames of betrayal' which I googled and I came across this site. It was only through this site that I found fanfiction.net .

My addiction blossomed after reading a post GoF swedish HP/HG written by a teenage girl, and it showed.

Sad thing is that 'twas my wee sister that introduced me to it

Ironically, I was writing fanfic far before ever reading it online. First was a Star Wars fanfic that, well... let's just say I'd only publish it for lulz these days, rather than for any actual good story building. It was shoddy and pre-NJO (for the most part), so it got a bit crazy at points. Still, if anyone wants to read something that I'd call pretty shitty albeit full of lulz, message me.

As for first fanfic I read... eh, I started on Mugglenet, so I think it was some OC-centric fic set during OOTP that had more Snape than was healthy. Go figure.
