Mine, again, just like most others was the Barb Trilogy. Which, I think, in some ways, is still a benchmark. The details are a bit hazy too me now though. The second part was truly fantastic and i think the reason why it was so popular at the time was its originality.

My first FF.net story was "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" by Gillian2. It was a proper UberHarry MarySue story which had Harry gain godlike powers and find an underground cavern with his extra powerful American girlfriend. The shame. The shame.

 

It shames me beyond imagining that I once adored 'Dumbledore's Army'. Not for the writing, at the time I thought it was fabulous, but for the fact that *sigh* it was a Harry/Ginny.

 

I first heard about fanfiction in my university class - Medievalism in Contemporary Times. We were actually studying Harry Potter and the lecturer brought in a fanfiction writer to read his story to us. She was all excited because she didn't know fanfiction existed. Neither did I and I was very excited at the thought there were hundreds of new variation out there where the story might go better. After the tutorial, I ran off the the lab to investigate.

I'm sorry to say the story itself was a Harry/Malfoy one, though I can't remember the name or the author (who was actually a gay uni student not a teenage girl as so many of those writers are or are presumed to be).

Anyway, it opened the world of fanfic to me!

 

I just recently found the very first fanfic I read on FF.net I was called Consuming Madness by Ash the Wanderer. I had forgot the title so I started to look for it. It's still a really good read. One of the best DBZ I had ever read.

Kolskit: Don't feel bad. I actually grew to tolerate H/G although I prefer H/Hr. But when OOTP came out I was an avid Harry/Luna fan then the abomination known as "The Half-Baked Plot" destroyed my dream.

 

I think it was by the red dragons order...i'm not sure though .. i found it on kazaa searching for the goblet of fire or OOTP ... I think it was OOTP though.. i downloaded about 8 stories , all were different i think the first i read had harry dream about flying or falling at the start.......hmm... one of the downloaded stories had a link to ff.net at the end so i went to the site , later on stumbled on
Naias dragonmasters , I think it had about 2 or 3 chapters back then...

 

The first HP fic I ever read was either "Realizations" by Wishweaver or "Harry Potter and the Power of Time" by RossWrock, both of which I adored a long, long time ago. Never again.

 

Shame upon me, it was a H/G Fic called "Miss Hogwarts" over at Riddikulus.org.

My first fic... damn, it was so long ago... I think I was looking for OOtP a few days after premiere and found on p2p some story (to this day I don't know the author or name) but I think that it might have been the same story that liath mentioned...

about Dumbledore turning out to be Voldemort's master... oh and the story was full of duels as a filling (in the sequel he used card duels or maybe it was the other way around?)

Mine was Be of good cheer. I didn't know that Harry Potter fanfiction excited and had hard time figuring out who Virginia was.

 

Hmm, I think mine was a Lily/James fic I found on Portkey.org (not a good site I think now) though I've forgotten the name. I think it may have been something along the lines of "The Ultimate Bet: Higher Stakes".

I thought it was a pretty good way of putting Lily and James together though now I've read more fics it feels somewhat cliche. It was a good fic though.

 

The first fic I read was this super power 'HarryisheirofGryffindor' fic called I, Magus. It was pretty crappy, but I thought it was good back then. The first fic I remember loving was RossWrock's Harry Potter and the Power of Time. That was months after I began reading HP fiction. I really am not sure when I started reading fan fiction, but I'd imagine it was a few months after Order of the Phoenix was out.

 

All I remember about my first fanfiction in Harry Potter is that I didn't know what Slash was. So I was reading the fic going "This is cool" then all of a sudden, Remus shows up and plants a big wet one on Harry. I am pretty sure that I stared at the screen for about 15 seconds before I got up and walked away.

But I started fanfiction in the Dragonball Z fandom. I didn't know slash was the equivelant to yaoi, but I have now learned my lesson.

Around a month later I found Lust of a Dark Soul by Vash which led me here.

I would like to believe that I was pretty smart since it took me a month to figure out all the other stuff on FFN is crap, compared to those other retards who are probably still on there reading the same cliched shit time after time, although my opinion here doesn't matter so just ignore that.
