What aspect of writing is everybody here best at? E.g. Description, Dialogue, Humour, Plot-driving, Suspense, Battles etc. Yeah, I know some wil overlap but prepare to be vain in answer to this question.

And what's your writing weakness? What part do you dread doing?

Personally it's undoubtably dialogue. If I could, I'd be over the moon writing nothing but diologue as it comes so easily to me. Description's a bit annoying if I'm not in the mood but my absolute hate has to be plot-driving. I hate writing filler chapters that are necessary to move the plot forward. I just want action, action action!

I'd have to say that description is what i'm most comfortable writing. I'm not so good with dialogue...i tend to ignore character personalities to some extent when i write dialogue.

I ahve to say though...i've definitely noticed growth in my writing since i started...writing FFs has definitely made me a better writer than i was before.

The thing that comes to me most easily when writing has to be dialogue. It's easy for me to write, and I usually get it down fast...at least faster than I do the rest of the shit.

I can do description and dialogue pretty well... My main issues arise from other aspects -- like filler.

Anything I write has about as much filler as a porno movie... In other words, none at all.

Its all about the action ;)

I find it all pretty easy, though I admit my action is weak at times...my problem is sitting down and writing.

I like to think I'm good with plotting and decent with dialogues.

My worst writing weakness is - writing itself. Yeah, I can plot and plan 'till tomorrow, but actually putting my ideas into words is usually pure torture for me.

Hm. I like to think I'm best at Drama scenes, and despite my hatred of it, I'm good at angsty stuff.. I have trouble balancing Dialogue and Description, I'm either all description, or all dialogue. So I spend a lot of time going back and editing things -_-'

Action scenes also tend to snag.. and romance is a hopeless cause... er, is it any wonder I don't post much of anything?

    * Rain also thinks IP should write more. :D

Yeah, I have pretty big problem getting myself to sit down and actually write what I've got planned out. Once I start writing, everything just writes itself, it's the getting started part that always gets me.

I think I can manage humor pretty well. And given the way I write I'd probably put dialogue on the strengths side. Angst, it's not so much that I fail at writing it as much as I envision my stories without much of it. Drama doesn't pause me and I can handle, but action would definitely be one of my weaknesses. I can visualize it, I can even storyboard the scenes to be shot for whenever Hollywood recognizes my greatness and turns them into movies. But I rarely capture the tenseness, speed or frenetic pacing of the scenes the way I plan them. Too often I end up writing my way around them, and not even always intentionally.

I'm not easily 'blocked' on writing. It's just the effort and putting the work into it I lack on occasion. But with every chapter, I'm getting a more clear defined outline of the next few chapters, so on chapter 12 I may have no idea how long a fic will be but then by say chapter 16 I may know there's only about five more chapters. With this sort of refinement of the details for the next chapters, I've never had problems "plot-driving" since I started actually planning a fic before writing it.

Description and details I usually skimp on, and rarely add in unless there's a relevant reason to put it into the story. I prefer shorter and getting the point across quicker to excessively embellished details in reading, and therefore laziness helps rationalize the limited bits in writing.

But the one thing I have definitely learned for all of you lazy writers is that just by writing more and more, you get better at pretty much everything. So don't just sit on your arse waiting for more good ideas for your first fics. Crank out some bad cliched ones so that you know what your doing more when it comes time to write your fifth. Or tenth. Or hundredth.

No Shit? That had to be the greatest understatement of the year...

I think I'm pretty good at action scenes, but then again, I am a bit of a narcciscist (Why else would I write Across the Mirror?)

I suck at dialogue (Which is why you see almost no dialogue in my stories), and writing atmosphere. Also, I hate introducing new things. I hate moving the plot forward too, and I love focusing on the present.

In addition, I suck at putting ideas into words, like IP.

Hopefully I'll progress past these as I continue writing.

Im pretty good at dialogue and description. Only fairly good when it comes to plot-driving devices.

I am completely horrible at writing action, but getting better.

and like IP, its hard for me to get my ideas down, and sit down to write. Once I do, it just comes out like a stream.

My biggest problem is translating all of the ideas that are swimming around in my head into words on paper. It's like I can envision what I want to happen, but my fingers all but refuse to cooperate. It's infuriating.

Well, I think that I'm best at descripctions and worst at dialogue. My biggest weaknesses though are just writing and staying on one story at a time.

An idea is to write little notes on paper and organize your chapter in different parts. That way you can take breaks and whenever you feel like writing you can write a segment.

IP82 - Use that advice and finish chapter 7 already!

I dont know. Maybe it is stupid but it could work. PM me if you try it, I wanna see the results.

Dialogue would probably have to be my strength. Several people on this site have told me that the way I write it is really realistic. I dont know if they are just lying or what... but yeah. I find it easy to write but it wasnt always like that. I used to suck at it, big time.

A weakness is that I dont plan enough. Though, that's been changing recently. I normally wing it, with a little bit of planning on the side.

    I'm pretty sure dialogue would be my biggest weakness. Its not so much getting the dialogue in character, as me getting paranoid about having bland talking. So, I worry about writing the word "said" too much, and then I tend to use every possible word just to avoid using "said". After that, I worry about using "said" too little :p. Its a never-ending circle really. Additionally, I'm not too fond of having to express character's feelings in dialogue. Example;

"Are you sure about this?" asked Bob, features marred by a concerned frown.

I'd like to say my strength was my description, although I'm not sure how true that is. I enjoy describing a lot, though.

I have the same problems. That's why I don't bother doing a story. It's just easier to picture it then put in words.

I have a big weakness on Dialogue.I might use up to many said's,asked, commented.Basicly I have the same problems like Element has on this part.

I've not gotten many direct words as to what people like of what I've written, but from what I have.... I would say my strength would be descriptions, writing out the details of something and trying to think realistically.

My most glaring weakness is dialogue. I simply can't write good conversations nor anything long. Thanks largely to that's just how I am in RL I don't talk much and so trying to create a dialogue for my characters always feels artificial. Maybe confidence is another weakpoint.

Individually, each area of writing is O.K. - I find that the hard part is linking them all together smoothly.

Like many others, I also find actually getting down to write hard.

If I had to name one thing that I'm weak on though, I would say description.
