New trailer and air date! (november 19th)

I liked this one a lot better than the first one. Haven’t really dissected/rewatched it but on first look the trollocs don’t look half bad.

Loving the color on the weaves. Also think this pretty clearly marks Rand as still being you know who.

 

Came across this recently, basically who Robert Jordan envisioned his characters looking like:

 

I mean it's basically a who's who? of some of the hottest people ever lol. But damned if that wouldn't be a fun cast.

 

One thing the above article I shared was how, on a show like this, you don’t necessarily want big names…because you need actors who can commit to this being 8-10 years of their lives.

Why it’s usually better to go with unknowns.

can you imagine many of the people on that list devoting 8-10 years of their life to a single project.


Now that I think about it I’m insanely jealous of these actors. Imagine waking up and getting to pretend to be Rand Al Thor for the past two years.

 

Looking like they're heavily going to lean into the mystery of "Who is the Dragon Reborn?" as a plot device. It's not how I would have done it, but if the execution is well done, I'm okay with it.

Biggest complaint seems to be the costuming.

 

I'm rather annoyed at the TV ad where Moiraine flat-out states that one of the Two Rivers kids adults is the Dragon Reborn. Sheesh, spoiler alert: Not just for people new to the series, but to the characters themselves. Way to ruin much of the mystique of the first novel.

If it's one of those BS ads where they insert lines that aren't actually in the show, it's still ridiculous.

Instead of trying to keep a low profile, Lan stomps into the inn, leaving the door wide open to the bad weather, like an ignorant animal.
Someone, I'm assuming Marin Al'Vere, does what any cordial cook at a quaint inn would do and gruffly demands his identity while gripping the hilt of a fucking knife.
Lan makes an interesting choice for someone trying to travel more or less incognito and announces himself and his dramatically posing and pausing companion, Moiraine. And, for the cherry on top, Marin recognizes her as an Aes Sedai the instant she spots her ring, instead of the village being clueless until she starts hurling fireballs...

The tone of this shit is just all wrong.

That's ignoring the woman smoking a pipe, which seems like a deliberate choice to go completely against the tone of the books. Fuck world-building though, am I right? Hook a turbine to Jordan's coffin, and you can defray the cost of this boondoggle by using him to provide all the electricity for the production.

A small detail you say? Death by a thousand cuts, I say.

I'm not liking the promise/threat that things will only get more and more off-canon, deeper into the show.

 

Yeah, cool, it's not a 13-book-to-one-episode adaptation. Do you have any legitimate criticism beyond outrage that it's not perfect and that people who haven't read 14 books thrice over should also be given world-building?

Think, it cannot exist. That thing in your head. They cannot make it, it is unfeasible. If you want that catastrophe in your head that only you will understand, that you further will not enjoy, then make like Bezos and dump a hundred million into a new show, then dump a billion into gene therapy and research to make a red-headed farmer boy that's actually 6-foot-6, that can act.

Please, merit this show as a show. Not as a book-on-tv, not as your Holy Grail.

Trying to put words in my mouth and thoughts in my head? You don't know what I'm thinking, and none of that shit was even implied by my post, so try not to presume quite so much.
And when did I even mention Rand's actor?

Getting the basic tone of the books right and slavishly reproducing every detail of the novels are two very different things. From what I've seen, they can't even manage the former, despite that being the minimum one should expect from an adaptation.

The melodramatics of the scene I mentioned in my previous post are bad, even divorcing the show entirely from its literary roots and judging it as an original work.

But don't let me stop you from trying to condescend to me. Watching an ass try to sit on a high horse is its own Bremen-esque kind of spectacle.

 

Jesus fucking Christ I can't wait until 19 November.

The first 4 to 5 seasons of Game of Thrones were miraculous. Marvelous. I'm not expecting that level of quality because I'm not a masochist. But I am expecting a TV show better than the latter 3 seasons.

 

Good gods, thank fuck I've never read this. Looks cool to me on its own merits.
