Authors with story counts in triple figures make me wary of impending fail.

Oh, they're good. They're really good.

    Problem is?

They're all the same thing. Over, and over, and over, and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Read ten of them and you've read them all.

It's been an amusing enough read so far, but I honestly don't think I can endure another seven years worth of in-story after reading at least two other stories by the same author.

The dialogue really does stretch all the way across, though I don't think I've seen one character say "Point," yet, which drove my spare in "Oh God not again" and that one Naruto re-do with the trio.

^I read a few of her stories and (though I enjoyed them) I actually cannot read that particular use of the word "Point," in dialogue anymore without wincing.

    It's basically this.

It's like the authors of cheap mass novels who use the same ideas again and again, mixing them up a bit and changing names and settings to make them look different.

I enjoyed some of her stuff, but if you have read a few of her fics, the rest is just a remix of the already known stuff. I admire her ability to spill out that many words within short time and still be readable - but she should consider to pause for a while and start something entirely new.

I personally enjoy her stuff. It's pretty funny. The fact that she dislikes DLP is somewhat disappointing, but to be expected: some people can't take straight-criticism and DLP does nothing as well as criticize. We destroy. We maim. Constructive criticism is the stated goal, but let's face facts: 90% of the time we can't be fucked to say anything but impressions, and they're often shitty.

She's a genuinely good author, however, and I think this story belongs in the library. 4/5

This story is kind of cute, kind of funny, but I think it fails to what it set out to do. I don't see how Lockhart has affected Harry. His actions are not at all special because of his upbringing, and I fail to see the connections. She could have just replaced Lockhart with X and Harry would still act the same way.

Based on that, a 2/5 for this fic.

Characterisation was okay. I probably liked this more because of Slytherin!Harry that the bits about Lockhart though. More is needed to make this interesting. Still, it's good for a quick read.

Meh. Knowing her fics, it's good enough. It's true she often repeats herself ans uses similar jokes, but it's amusing enough, and that's all you really need. I enjoy her unusual portrayal of characters, especially Albus and Lockhart. Conspiracy theorist Theo is also good fun.
3.5/5. I'd have given 3/5, but I'm hoping that it may develop a bit of plot, since Harry still needs to defeat Voldemort, and unlike Oh God Not Again, he doesn't actually know how to do it.

    Name-calling. Lovely.

That would be the smart thing to do and you're probably right about the masochism. I'm too curious for my own good sometimes. Today I was helping my brother find my profile and this was the third page up on Google results. I do stay away when Google doesn't do that kind of thing to me.

I wouldn't say all. They're not even all supposed to be humor. I guess there are, shall we say, common elements in them.
Was that really such a problem? No one sent me a review mentioning it. Huh.
Well, I can't really argue with that. I will, however, say that I don't tell people that they can't criticize me for something, just that it annoys me when they do. I don't claim to be the best, that is true. I'm under no illusions of being the best (and less after coming to this site). I just don't see the point of reviews like "Wow, I loved your story. It's not the best I've ever read but it's good" or "This is such an amazing story! Doesn't hold a candle to 'A Black Comedy' but it's still great!"

Clearly other people disagree with me on whether or not there is a point in telling me this but for the life of me I don't see why they feel the need to do that. My list of pet peeves is just things that I find annoying, not a guide for how I expect other people to behave.

A lot of my stories (especially the short one-shots) aren't really things that I spend a lot of time on or care all that much about. I just have a few hours to kill or have an idea and decide to write it. I don't expect them to be fantastic but I don't think they're completely worthless, either. That's why I just don't feel my stories are a good fit here. From what I've seen of the site, it takes all of this very very seriously.

The comparison to authors of cheap mass novels (while hardly flattering) seems to work here. It's just cheap mass novels that I write when I'm bored and you guys act like you're expecting a best-seller when you're never going to get one.

I decide to have James call Lily 'Lily Flower' once, for example, and it annoys her and a dozen people rip that one instance apart. It was two sentences, it didn't matter, and even if apparently every other author in stories I haven't read did that as well I don't see why it's so rage-worthy.

And the tag for this is "Butthurt Author" which is just lovely.

Butthurt indeed. Cause you can totally tell, what with the way she came in here and just started responding to all criticisms with over the top, extrememly defensive comments and not addressing any specific points leveled at her...

You two, learn to read before you post a comment. She addresses our concerns and even agrees.

I'd say all of her stories could be placed in "Almost recommendable" - there are few authors publishing that much who would be able to manage that.

I was pretty entertained with it for a while. It's actually funny sometimes, instead of being wrongfully labeled humor. Still pretty average, but better than what I could come up with. Nice grammar and spelling. Sometimes it reads like a parody, though.

One of the problems is that it seems like Lockhart picked him up when he was age 6-10 and started corrupting him, rather than Lockhart raising Harry. At age ten, he probably still has the same personality as canon!Harry.

To be fair though, Rowling's Harry Potter wasn't exactly Mr. Personality. Isn't that one of the great advantages of HP fanfic, that the blank slate of Harry Potter can become anything?

    Still. 3.5.

This is complete now at 38 chapters -- I just read the entire thing over the last couple of days and hadn't heard of it before. It ends at the end of Harry's year at school, but it seemed more or less to be a pretty good place to end it. There are still some loose ends from canon to tie up (horcruxes and whatnot) but all the plots introduced in the actual story seemed to get dealt with and I think that's probably good enough.

It's actually not that bad and I think most of the reviews in here are fairly accurate. It's primarily meant to be funny, but it isn't funny at the cost of plot and believability. There are instances of crack/parody in parts though it is not overwhelming (the bit about how everyone is supposed to find a rival on the train was more crack than humor, but it was repeated often enough that I finally found it amusing in a way).

I rate it at 3.5/5 but round down to 3/5 -- if it had had a bit more seriousness to it, or drama of any kind, I'd have gone up to 4. But all the obstacles are a bit too easily faced and dealt with, be they personal or physical or whatever, and some of the characters are a bit too much like caricatures.

But yeah, necro because it is complete now (as of yesterday, apparently, so I guess I picked a good time to read it).

Edit: I should also point out that as far as I can tell, the fandom only has two decent fics featuring Lockhart in it that are over 25k words or so -- this one and Gilding the Son of Lily, which is a self-insert fic recently posted on DLP.

Another decent fic I know of is Darth Marrs' "Unspeakable Things," which features a competent Unspeakable!Lockhart (codename: Adonis) and a very interesting take on Luna. The main pairing is Harry/Ginny, but it's surprisingly bearable (mostly because it starts in 2nd year, and thus gives them time to actually develop a relationship). The epilogue sucks, mightily: it's basically a crack omake that's somewhat funny but utterly destroys the sense of resolution from the original ending. Besides that, it's a surprisingly decent fic.

I didn't see it in the library, and have had no luck finding it in the "Almost Recommendable" threads.

That's actually based off an idea from Perspicacity. It's talked about somewhere though I can't remember where. Anyway I don't really think it even belongs in the Almost Recommendable thread. It had a few redeeming qualities, but not many. The only things that interested me in it were the mentions in Perspicacity's profile and the above average update and completion rates.

If I get bored I may reread When In Doubt, Obliviate. I remember it being a decent time waster but not much more.
