    You have to have a certain number of posts(50, I believe) before it becomes available to you.

    You gain the thumbs up function when you turn into a squib (I think) by having at least 30 posts... or maybe 50. The icon for thumbs up will appear in the lower right of the message space.

    Don't be a post whore though, contribute intelligently to the threads.
