    True but it is a much cleaner cut with the head facing down. Essentially it guarenties zero mistakes.

    Or for comedic value you could create a complicated system of traps involving a candle, some wire and a xylaphone and have a piano fall onto the victim.

    Indeed...

    Only on DLP, calm debates on how to quickly, silently and efficiently slit someone's throat. Or how to cause a prolonged, painful death.

    The level of discussion is high, arguments are being passed back and forth, suggestions are offered and experts are consulted.

    I love it!

    I recommend we direct unsuspecting, rabid fangirls who introduce themselves to this thread.

    WTF ... Too right, this is on its way to epicness.

    Seratin: What Banner said. Silencio is boring, and Bellatrix doesn't do boring. Also: lol, wut? No, she doesn't do comedy, either.

    Banner: Now, about that pry bar you mentioned ... you use it to get to broken ribs out, right? The more I think about it, the more I like it.

    So here's the process as I have it now: Bellatrix uses Area-Flesh-Eating-Curse on Female Muggle, and a cutting spell to break the ribs, but can't get them to move. In comes the pry bar, with which she pries the ribs out, puncturing the lungs in progress. The Muggle is screaming, and won't shut up, so Bellatrix gets annoyed and blasts her throat off, then seals off the carotids to stop the bleeding and removes the (still beating) heart.

    Sounds reasonable?

    That could work. I don't know exactly how much power it would take to pull a curved bone backwards - it'll depend on things like gender of the victim (which would affect size/depth of chest,) amount of muscle providing resistance, and exactly how much straight-up strength Bella has in her arms.
    If Bella has a dungeon, she probably has solid-set supports that she can use for leverage.

    By the way, I'm pretty sure that as soon as a lung gets punctured, the victim will lose interest in anything else Bella is doing to them. It probably feels more or less like drowning. If it happened to someone who is already panicked, I suspect the victim will be completely hysterical.

    Make sure that the victim (I nearly said "patient,") is both young and essentially healthy. Bella would be pissed if her toy had a heart attack or major stroke during a demonstration.

    Ask Tinn, she's been doing autopsies recently.

    Well if you really want pain embed screws into the heels of the victims feet and force them to walk.

    If you really want to go for the whole gore thing then a live autopsy is the way to go. A crowbar is a bit brutal as you would probably damage some organs as you pry open the ribs.

    Best bet in my opinion would be an electric saw. I wonder is there a charm that could be used to keep the victim from going into shock? A variation of a soothing charm perhaps?

    From a magical standpoint of keeping the patient alive during said scene, I recommend ignoring the medical perspective and introducing magic. Likely inspiration would be mythology, such as the eagle eating Prometheus' liver, which grew back over night.

    Not anything that extreme or long winded, but perhaps an emergency standard Auror/Death Eater field medical stabilizing spell. Something generally used for keeping the patient alive until proper medical aid can be applied, but which can be used for more deviant purposes.

    Studies on rats and other >30-lb mammals have indicated that IV fluids with moderately high levels of Vitamin C helps prevent shock due to crushing injuries.
    I have NO idea how to limit the damage caused by the victim's mental reactions. Shock isn't necessarily physical.

    Yeah, I actually had that point in my notes -- a Spell to keep her from fainting, at least (the Muggle, obviously, not Bella). But this sounds even better, and with the explanation to boot. /noted

    And no worries about the Muggle -- the only thing needed undamaged is the heart, and, well, since no one can live without one anyway, mental damage isn't that great a problem.

    About that power thing -- I think this is where I'll call in my artistic licence. I'll assume that Bella is able to do it, and that should be that.

    Lol, I can't be arsed to remember what I read yesterday, can I? :p

    But srsly, I was talking about my story notes. Incidentally, I hope no one finds them -- they begin to look somehow ... odd now without the right context.

    <Tinn>What?
    <DarkSyaoran>Lol TINN
    <Oz||Studying>Tinn, still no idea how long it would take? <-- That
    <Tinn>Oh.
    <Oz||Studying>Blood
    <Oz||Studying>Throat
    <Oz||Studying>Hao long?
    <Tinn>Well, I think there's what, 5 litres of blood in the body?
    <Oz||Studying>6
    <Oz||Studying>I think
    <Tinn>Probably varies, but let's say 6.
    <Tinn>Now find the average quantity of blood a heart pumps out per minute.
    <Oz||Studying>>_> Google says 5
    <Tinn>Then find the percentage of that blood going into the carotids.
    <Oz||Studying>*litres of blood

    <LordBill>Syaoran will pump 6 litres of cum into Tinn.
    <Tinn>Should be fairly easy, because it's almost constant, since the brain needs a fairly constant bloodstream.
    <Fenrir_Greyback>and the heart can shoot blood 30 feet into the air in one beat.
    <Oz||Studying>Or tissue dies
    <Oz||Studying>WikiAnswers: How many litres of blood do human beings have? A: 5-6 litres

    <Tinn>The problem is, Oz, it depends if the person is awake, stressed, tall, short, fat, skinny, etc.
    <Oz||Studying>With each beat, the heart pumps out about 70 ml of blood. This volume is called the stroke volume. Multiplying stroke volume by the number of heart beats in a minute gives us the volume of blood pumped in a single minute:

    volume per minute = stroke volume x heart rate

    If we take a normal heart rate to be 60 beats per minute, then we get something like this:

    volume per minute = ( 70 ml ) x ( 60 bpm ) = 4200 ml/min = 1.1 gal/min

    <Tinn>The problem, as I said is if the person is stressed or just made a physical effort you won't have 60 bpm.
    <Taure>Surely bpm would change with activity
    <Oz||Studying>Woman, awake, average height and weight
    <Taure>Exercice etc
    <Oz||Studying>Probably terrified coz her throat's being ripped out
    <Tinn>Thanks for repeating what I just said, Taure. ~_~
    <Oz||Studying>Yes it does Taure
    <Tinn>Maybe she doesn't have the time to be terrified.
    <Tinn>If it attacks her from behind. Syao, Vash, Bill twist that and die.
    <Taure>For comparison, my resting heart rate is roughly 70-75bpm
    <Tinn>Well, maybe not die. I might just be able to glare at you from behind my screen, but you get the idea.
    <Oz||Studying>Tinn: Its not a monster
    <Tinn>It for he, she, it.
    <Oz||Studying>Is Bella lesrange fro front
    <Taure>Lol
    <Taure>Saggy Azkaban tits
    <Oz||Studying>Quiet, whore
    <Taure>I'd call that monstrous
    <Oz||Studying>Quiet, whore
    <Tinn>My heartbeat is quick but my blood pressure's low.
    <Sree>Lol, I'm surprised Tehan hasn't attacked Seratin yet for badmouthing Luna.
    <Taure>quick and low are comparitive terms
    <Tehan>Bweh?
    <Tinn>I'm like a petrol engine compared with a diesel one.
    <Oz||Studying>Say someone's shit scared, BPM'd be about 120, right?
    <Sree>Man United = fail
    <Sree>Luna = Fail
    <Sree>The rest seems okay.
    <Sree> http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=9663
    <Tehan>He dissed Man U?!
    <Tinn>Taure: I once took my blood pressure after running hard for 20 minutes. It was at 100/70.
    <Taure>A healthy person, yeah
    <Sree>:p
    <Sree>I guess. :p

    <Tinn>My heart was about to burst out my ribs though.
    * Taure has odd blood pressure, in that he has hypertension form the nech up only
    <Tehan>Luna's a big girl. Not to mention a fictional character.
    <DarkSyaoran>Man U are European champions.
    <Taure>from*
    <Taure>neck*
    <Taure>lol
    <Tehan>I'm sure a one-line insult on the interwebs won't do all that much harm to her.
    <Sree>That's because you're incompetent, Tinn.
    <DarkSyaoran>As well as English champions.
    <Sree>You probably did it wrong.
    <Tinn>I did it right.
    <Tinn>I always had a low blood pressure.

    Relevant stuff is bolded. You can work out the calculations for yourself, Sesc, I ain't doin' it. =P

    Possibly have the spleen ruptured in one way or another a kitchen knife would work well as you said thats was wat you were thinking of using, maby a few minutes before they die, its internal bleeding that kills them spleen is located just behind the rib cage the last few behind maby the nineth tenth eleventh and 12th piece of bone, close to the back and on the left side of the torso could easily slide a short blade in and cut it

    Let's say there's a patient at St. Mungo's Emergency Room (or something like that) is brought by Aurors after a Death Eater attack. His voice box is ripped off, arteries damaged. Before bringing the patient in, someone sealed the arteries off to prevent death from blood loss. Now, as I, without any medical knowledge at all understand, brain isn't getting any blood, right? Brain without blood tends to die, right? So, how long would that take?

    The scenario I am thinking of is this: there's a magical battle going on, some baddie blasts the throat of an Auror apart. Some passing Auror seals off the arteries, maybe puts some sort of spell to keep the heart beating and all that on the victim. Brain doesn't get any blood until the skirmish ends and the victim can be brought to St. Mungo's.

    Now, the healers fixes the whole throat area, arteries and all, and restore the blood flow to the brain. How long until the brain couldn't be realistically "turned on" again?

    EDIT: EPIC thread :)

    I'm going to agree with Tehan's four minutes- that's including the time they'd be unconscious. Any attempt for revival beyond that will probably result in permanent brain damage, but may not.

    The best method to kill someone slowly with a knife wound would, I'd say, be the liver. Another way could be under the armpit, and that would be painful seeing as there's a bundle of nerves passing through there (meaning they may loose function in the arm altogether) and, if I remember right, an artery.

    So either way, stabbing them in the armpit would screw them up pretty bad.

    Sidenote: Only on DLP could you find a thread like this.

    The brain still gets blood from the vertebral arteries, which meet to form the basilar artery (at the back of the head). The basilar artery supplies the brain stem and cerebellum, and it is linked to both internal carotids thanks to the circle of Willis; therefore it can theoretically take over the brain circulation in case the carotids are wounded.

    "Theoretically", because not everyone has a full circle of Willis: there's often a communicating artery missing. Or two. And either way, it wouldn't go well for the guy. The carotids are way bigger than the basilar. So yes, you'd have minutes to intervene.

    Remember that there are also the external carotids. They supply most of your face, including the eye.

    And... remember to have him intubated or something. So he can breathe.

    Or maybe...
    Look: The newbie casts an Auror-level Rescue/Emergency spell, right? I think it's perfectly reasonable to make every Auror take first aid courses, and (since major injuries can be healed if you can get the vic to the wizarding hospital) teaching the field agents a spell that would put the brain in a low/resting state or start a continuous influx of Oxygen and water to the brain could reasonably be a mandatory part of the course.

    Well, I am thinking about writing a healer!Harry story, where Harry is a healer instead of an Auror. Post-DH, by the way. Before starting, need to figure out what he would do as a healer. It probably wouldn't be at all interesting to read how Harry treats some old pureblood. I am thinking along the lines of a new "Dark Lord" rising and Harry working at St. Mungo's at the time. Or Dark Wizards could try to make him fight by infecting Teddy Lupin with some super duper disease. Kill Harry Potter and get instant reputation and all that. That's off topic, though.
