I say Neville. NEville got an Exceeds Expectations in Charms and DADA. He also got an O in Herbology and an A in Transfiguration. That's all we know.

Ron got no O's and he had 7 OWLs (this is all we're told about his scores HBP. We know he got an E in Transfiguration, Charms, DADA, and Potions as he got into each of those classes.

I go with Neville. He beat Ron in the DA and BITCH SLAPS him in Herbology. Plus Ron's just a loser, he has every opportunity to do well and screws it up playing "exploding Snap" and Chess.

Neville at least has GENUINE problems at home (Both parents are demented from Cruciatus)

I actually like Neville, (which is more than I can say about Ron) so the answer to your question is that I like Neville more. Ron just grinds on my nerves. Unlike most people I've disliked Ron since the first time we see him on the train in PS/SS, it just seems like the only reason he wants to get to know Harry is because he's famous. Neville may be shit in lessons but at least he tries... which is more than can be said about Ron.

 

Yep, Ron has "LOOSER" written all over him. Shit, even his Quidditch team is always loosing. That little piece of shit celeb wanabe don't deserve even Hermione's, not to mention Harry's company.

The way JK fucked up the characterisation of Ron and Hermione in HBP (I can't believe I remember a word of that shite) makes me hate those two characters more than ever. Since when does Ron not think that Malfoy is up to something? She'd have been better off leaving the two out of the book for all the purpose their fucked up romance plot line served.

Before HBP, Malfoy was in his own league of uslessness. But hell, he was SUPPOSED to be like that, being a bad guy and all...

After HBP, I must say that even Malfoy seems like less of a looser than Ron. He HAD managed to repair a magical portal, while Ron spent his 6th year playing exploding snap and lusting after the beaverhead...

 

I'd pick Neville over Ron any day. Hell, I'd probably pick anyone over him (excluding Snape). There is something about Ron that I find very repulsive, and its not his constant jelousy towards Harry, nor his inability to do anything properly. It's probably his childness. He knoows that there is a war going on, and yet all he ever talks about, or does during his free time, is either play Quidditch (which he is not very good at) or chess. Actually, I probably hate everythig about that Weasel. The red hair, freckles, tall and skinny... not my type of a guy, not even close.

I pity Lavender. If I were her, I would probably never feel clean ever again...

There are a lot of things that I dislike about Neville as well, but my hate for Ron is way beyond that of Neville.

Ron is just a shallow sidekick with no real character. The few times we've actually seen a character defining moment are what?

-The chess game, he "sacrifices" himself to let Harry go on. (if I see one more damned Ron-lover going on about this bullshit I'll castrate you with a rabid pitbull. Sacrifice means die, it does not mean get knocked down and fall out.)

-Steals the car and in typical idiot fashion, wrecks it. Then snivels like a wuss in the forest.

-Screams like a girl over Sirius, spends most of the book bitching about his rat.

-Turns jealous on Harry for no cause, it's suddenly forgotten about when he gets jealous over Victor instead. (He adored the man to gayness before he liked Hermione, as soon as he and Hermione hooked up Ron LOATHED the guy) This is my reasoning for not liking the guy, I've known folks like him, and the ones I've known have jealousy embittered deep in them, but they rarely show it.

-OOTP he goes with Harry to the DoM, and gets his asswhipped by some brains.

-HBP I've blocked most of out, but he shrugs Harry's Draco warnings off, which is OOC, then acts like Don Juan.


Neville's moments I'll leave to someone else, but Neville I can handle growing up and becoming a badass much more then I can handle Ron. I see Ron as just the Pettigrew of that generation, or someone to be there just so Harry has a friend. Ron the uber-loyal that so many believe in can think what they want, but the guy's nothing more then a follower, and a body to fill in a sidekick spot.

 

I've seen so many fics ruined by Ron being a great uber-gay friend to Harry (ex: Flames of Betrail). I can even take a competent Ron or a strategist Ron, but as soon as I see him as a self-sacrifying adopted brother to Harry or some shit like that, I usually stop reading. I mean, adopted brother? Really.... SNORT Like he needs more brothers...

 

I was going to bring this up earlier in the thread but I couldn't get my thoughts down into a post... I still can't actually. I've seen a few stories around that make Neville into the next Wormtail but in mind mind it will always be Ron. He's already shown all the traits. He inadequate to those he follows, he's jealous, and he wants fame (aka power).

 

Yep i do believe i can see it to, one person can only stay in anothers shadow for so long before they crack! Naturally i hate Won Won he is a pureblood for Nyx's sake he should at least have some fuckin knowledge of magic, ediquitte and so on. Neville i only like because he could be better then Harry, another pureblood that has a motervation to quest for power, unlike Harry who from the looks of it wants things handed to him from the Headmaster to the filthy Mudblood.
