    Damn, I forgot about that.

Also, I should note that I really like Dumbledore, partly because he too is flawed. And Ron was actually my favorite character to write back when I actually wrote fanfiction, because he starts off believable and stays that way.

I dunno about all of his hopes and dreams but the Mirror certainly showed them at that time.

So the hopes and dreams of a man are defined in your mind by what a twelve year old saw in a magic mirror?

Eh, he has a point there. When I was twelve I wanted to be immortal, insanely powerful and rich. This has mostly stayed the same.

Meaning that people change, but Ron hasn't had a character-wiping paradigm shift. In some ways, he was probably still that same twelve year old kid.

Please read properly Zennith, I said "at that time" because I don't believe they're set in stone. I was giving you an example of when we were given an insight to his "inner hopes and dreams".

    Truly?

I suppose it's quite simple, really; one of them was a master manipulator who made a pet out of Voldemort's right hand man, weaved a web of lies and manipulated people even in the afterlife.

The other? He ran away because his tummy ached.

Yeah, I read that. But you're still making a pretty strong implication that this is who Ron is, regardless of anything that might have changed since then.

    A Wild Manipulative Dumbledore appears!

Also, lol at 1980s Snape being Voldemort's right hand man.

Honestly -- comparing Ron to Dumbledore?

Dumbledore could piss on graves and I'd still like him.

    He's just that badass.

I wasn't implying anything, you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. I simply provided Bill with an in story example of when we were given insight to his hopes and dreams.

But somehow an eleven year old willingly standing up and taking a massive, potentially life-threatening hit from a life-size chess board in order to allow his friend through to fight against a dark wizard isn't badass?

This is the Harry Potter series we're talking about.

Hell, Peter Pettigrew was a double agent, betrayed his friends for the price of freedom, hid as a rat for 13 years, and had the balls to look for Voldemort despite betraying him.

Now that's badass, and Peter is one of the least badass characters in the books.

I don't hate Ron. And neither should anyone. Dislike him? Sure. Don't make him your favorite character? Okay. But don't hate him.

Many people tend to focus on the mistakes he did, fourth year and that time in the forest, and as much as they are prove that Ron is a flawed human being they are also proof that he will always come back. I'm not saying that anything can be forgiven, but in Ron's case it should. The dude has risked his life multiple times for Harry since he was 11. He didn't have to, but he did.

Also, he was fucking hilarious when I read the books as a kid.

One of them was trying to save the world.

The other was letting himself be used by Grindelwald as a tool to help him subjugate Muggles. Even after that, he let thousands die because he was too much of a coward to face his past demons.

Oh, and he probably killed his own sister.

Even with his fuck-ups, Ron is by far the better person of the two.

I feel like you've read too much 2007 indy!Harry fanfiction. Upon rereading the books, Ron was one of my favourite characters. Who cares if he got in an argument with his friend at 14 years old? I've done the same, and Ron does apologize. For all his flaws, Ron does honestly try and make up for his mistakes.

    Oooook.

Pettigrew was a double agent and betrayed because he was scared and took the easy way out. Ron was scared and took a life size chess piece to the face anyway.

Pettigrew looks for Voldemort because he has absolutely no other options. If he's caught he faces a lifetime in Azkaban or the kiss.

In other words, no, Pettigrew isn't badass. He's not a particularly weak wizard, based on what we see, but he's not a badass. He's a coward. Ron is literally the exact opposite of this.

One can be a coward and badass at the same time.
