On the whole fantastic beastsb topic?
I liked the movies, but they weren't great. The whole credence subplot feels like a stupid filler to get more movies out of the material. And I really dislike magical trunks.

 

Credence 'Aurelius Dumbledore' Barebone. Everything was fine...and then that.

 

Someone is being very liberal with the use of fine there. The entire plot for the film was confused and uninspired. It honestly feels like another attempt to create a franchise except they've yet again tried to reverse engineered it. Only they've forgotten to put some actual effort into the process. I believe it's all been said and Pitch Meeting does a fantastic job summarising. The whole piece largely feels like filler just to meet their quota of five films in order to purchase Canada.

I'm honestly hoping that they stop padding it out and put some genuine story in there so that eventually there will be a fan edit on YouTube that creates a passable couple of films.

 

The problem with creating a prequel to the Harry Potter story is that it begins creating plot holes to the Harry Potter story in its mere existence. Blood-Bonds, Secret Dumbledore bloodline and he gets a cool Phoenix, Wand+Being an Obscurial makes 0 sense to me considering the whole point is that his Magic is malignant and unstable.

The movie suffers greatly from not being a book, but it's likely for the best considering the fact that most people dislike DH for its overuse of McGuffins and Chekhov's Guns and this story legit doubled down on it.

 

I'm still reasonably sure the whole "you're a Dumbledore" thing was just a manipulation and its not going to turn out to be true. And by reasonably sure, I mean clinging to the hope.

 

I strongly suspect Warner Bros hadn't committed themselves one way or the other at the time the film was released, and wanted to see peoples' reactions before either continuing or revealing it was another lie in a future film.
