    Well, there's always Causality Chain.

It's not very good at all. It has that cliche were Lily's a pureblood, but was adopted by muggles. It has Dumbledore and Ron bashing. It has some horrible dialogue, and it has too many eleven year old kids smirking.

However, it does show a pureblooded Harry that's prejudice against muggles and muggleborn, but never goes out of his way to antagonize them. He just simply ignores them. That's how I've always seen a pureblood Harry. Prejudiced, but not a hardcore Death Eater racist.

    Dumbledore was trolling the Ministry.

But honestly, as previously stated, making Harry a pureblood would either change him into a Malfoy, Neville, or not at all. That is of course, unless you add other changes.

Just read those, and replace "Jew" with "muggle born".

Making Harry a pureblood, however you define it, misses the point of the series entirely. The entire concept of purebloodedness is representative of the irrationality of racism. Asking "What if Harry were a pureblood?" is, to me, like asking, "What if Anne Frank were an Aryan?"

See, it's not just that at least both sets of grandparents were wizards, it's that my purebloodedness goes back more generations than your purebloodeness. The Malfoys and Blacks looked down on any family that wasn't as pureblooded as they were.

The average German needed only have both sets of grandparents be "Aryan" to be considered sufficiently Aryan. SS men, however, had to prove their Aryan ancestry all the way back to 1723; i.e., even normal Germans weren't good enough for the SS.

So does just about everything. Dark!Harry would or Harry/Draco slash; however, it's still there.

You can go even farther -- "What if Anne Frank was a Nazi." And that is a highly interesting question, because you suddenly get a chance to evaluate a character under a directly opposed premise. It's the what-would-you-have-done-in-his-shoes-question, the chance to explore whether a character is the way he is due to circumstances, or due to some innate belief that is intrinsic to him. It's fascinating, at least for me.

Hell, making Harry competent misses the point of canon too, so why the hell would you dismiss a fanfiction premise as "missing the point" when all of fanfiction misses the damned point?

In any event, making Harry a pureblood isn't a great idea as far as I am concerned. A much better premise is having Harry grow up in wizarding society, perhaps with a more conservative family.

Then you can have conflict between Harry and Muggleborn students that look down on wizard society for being "backwards" (Hermione). Contrasting his pride at being a wizard and magical with actual problems in magical society and tradition. And even things that aren't necessarily problems that muggleborns would consider backwards.

Far more interesting in my book.

And you don't have to change Harry's ancestry to do it. You can do it that way, but it isn't necessary.

Unless one of the underlying themes of said fanfiction is for the main character (a pure-blood, possibly from a family like the Blacks or Malfoys) going against his/her prejudiced/racist beliefs to 'do the right thing', with tolerance bullshit, etc.

(Oh wait, I'm essentially writing the background story for Sirius, right? :sherlock:).

Especially if the protagonist is a racist anti-hero at the start; characterization (ignoring 'mud-bloods' and just trying to accept that they're there, without significantly interacting with them, or being a 'goody-two-shoes' like Neville/the Weasleys, or a antagonist cunt like Malfoy/some Slytherins) would be key in setting the tone.

Oh, FFS it's not so hard to understand what Rin's point is. In his opinion, being muggle-raised (and therefore free of blood prejudices that would make the pureblood device relevant) is inalienable from Harry's character. Fair point.

Trivial rebuttal: the point of fanfiction is to explore the what-ifs, and "What if Harry was a pureblood?" is one of those.

Making Harry a pureblood without actually being a pureblood. Brilliant.

On the subject of changing where Harry grew up, I'm curious about what would happen if he grew up with the Longbottoms. Surely Neville's grandmother would give him the same treatment she gave Neville, because I honestly cannot see a woman like that, who outright terrifies her grandson, changing just because Harry Potter is there.

Wait. I thought the thread was "Wisconsin Harry was a pureblood?"

You know, stated rhetorically or incredulously, as in, "You? Never! /Did/ the Kenosha Kid...?"
