Just upgraded to Windows 7 today and have tried to get on to irc via both mIRC and Java. Both of them fail, the first because I get a permission denied error message and the second because I can't update Java >_>.

Any ideas on what to do?

 

Why can't you update Java? Are you not administrator? That might stop you updating, and it might also explain the permission denied thing.

 

No, I get the error: "The installer cannot proceed with the current internet connection settings".

 

Are you sure that your firewall settings allow for MIRC? Windows automatically blocks the ports for it and they require opening manually. Though if its not letting you even open the program, uninstall then reinstall it as administrator. When you're running it make sure that you AREN'T running as admin and it should work for you.

As for Java, what does it say when you try to update?

Edit: Alright, try the offline java installer and that should get you around that error message.
