Right, so I've got a computer running Vista Home Premium. My dad bought a copy of Windows 7 Professional. I'd like to use this spiffy new Upgrade feature that should save me from having to do a "clean" install and make me have to reinstall all my programs (which I don't have the CD's for as I'm at Uni). However, according to this chart, I'm fucked.

Basically Home Premium won't translate to Professional. The guy who made the chart offered this advice:

However its not even possible to get the Vista Business upgrade anymore. Does anyone have any idea how to get around this issue? There's no way I can be fucked to do a clean install, I'll just keep using my Computer unti it dies on me before I do that (even though its running Vista).

Just partition your shit and do a clean install.

Not to sound like a moron, but if I do can I still access all my files/installed programs from 7? Will programs still be installed?

Yeah, you can. Yes. That's one of the primary advantages of partitioning.

Edit: I should have mentioned the reinstalling on the current partition. They will, however, still be completely usable (without reinstallation) on the vista partition. But of course, this is easy as shit to do.

You'll have to reinstall programs, of course. If you backup important files on the second partition, though, you won't lose them.
