What do you all think of an author making the wizarding race as a whole more fantastical. For instance, making them more powerful by making the average wizard as powerful as Dumbledore and Voldemort and making Dumbledore and Voldemort much more powerful?

Well it would seem like overkill. Ordinary wizards are already extremely powerful. Arthur Weasley was able to enchant a flying car with an invisibility switch and even ended up giving it sentience.

Potterverse wizards are incredibly overpowered compared to wizards from other works of fiction.

Like Seratin said, it'd be unnecessary.

Everyone seemed to be a scaled down version of franklin Richards. Magic has very little cost and require little study to master. The only real drawback is their need or wands.

More power is unnecessary, certainly to wizards as a whole, but more fantastical can be fun. It's one of the reasons I like fics like Prince of the Dark Kingdom, and the Sacrifices Arc (although admittedly, fantastical implies a bit more whimsy than the Sacrifices Arc possess). Things like PotDK's pagan magic and properly thought out werewolf lore beyond rabid monster really lift it - there's a recurring thread where, due to a wonky ritual, Harry goes a little bit crazy at the full moon, for example. In Sacrifices, some personal favourites include the house that's built into cliffs on the Isle of Man that have formed around a dragon's skeleton, and the semi-sentient magic, and an actual Pureblood culture (which makes fuck all sense if you like your fics to have any relation to canon at all, but taken on its own merits is reasonably well constructed).

Recent additions to canon like Fantastic Beasts have suggested wizards/witches can have specialties in branches of magic that don't obey the usual rules - Queenie's brand of Legilimency is rather different to that practiced in the books, for instance - which opens up all sorts of potential avenues for expanding the magical aspects of a fic without making it more universe breaking than it already is. It's just a matter of exercising good judgement and planning when you do so, same as anything.
