Is there a word or phrase that really turns you off? Is there a word or phrase that someone use that leaves you wondering how anyonewcould think it was a good idea to say something like that?

Mine just happens to be "My bad" or it's counterpart "Your bad"

Getting the order wrong on "its not this, let alone that".

    Examples:
It's not even a doberman, let alone a dog.
It's not an apple, let alone a fruit.
They never saw sharks, let alone fish.
I dont even have a dollar, let alone a dime.

This is used wrong so often and it pisses me off supremely.

I say this a lot. Sorry, my bad.

I guess my thing is that I can't stand people saying using said as an adjective. Like, "Said phrase is also quite annoying."

Veggies. It's not cute, and if you're looking for an abbreviation, then "veg" is twice as efficient. I like my food dead, and veggies makes it sound like they're smiling at you.

Sorry, but i think half the English speaking world calls them veggies.

This is just wrong. It implies that whatever you're talking about is something you have some interest in, because it is possible for you to have less interest in it.

I won't stop reading over this, but I've never heard it used in real life. It sounds like playground football logic, rather than something real. Also, and I know this isn't the most important part, it's legally untrue - if you rob a bank with a pretend gun, you get sentenced as if it were a real gun.
In the real world, intentions count as well as outcomes.

Well done, you saved typing less than half a word! I've seen it on drive-through takeaways, but there isn't enough space for all those letters there, in text it's just lazy. Similarly, any text speak.

Any kind of excessive swearing in situations that do not merit it.

"Ow that fucking hurts" - acceptable, pain is an appropriate situation for swearing.

"The sky is fucking blue today" - excessive, I am now judging you.

The thing with the word "thru" is not only is it ugly, it doesn't even achieve its objective of making English spelling more logical. I can think of no other English word with a terminal "u" making an "oo" sound. It's just as arbitrary as "ough" was. If you wanted to make the spell of "through" logical, it should be "throo".

Don't think you'd do too fucking well in 'straya, cunt.

In that vein, us Australians have a habit of abbreviating long words and extending short words. That can get annoying.

    Examples:

    Ambo is an ambulance officer
    Servo is a petrol station
    Arvo is afternoon

Those are the acceptable ones. It gets ugly, always offensive, and is often - stereotypically - a way of judging the intelligence/socio-economic background of an individual. Unless they work FIFO, in which case cunts that use Aussie slang will own three houses and eight jet skis.

It's rare but not misapplied. It's more cruel to the aliens trying to understand the rules of English that 'through', 'thorough' and 'rough' have dramatically different pronunications for the same array of four letters.

"I could care less" when they mean that they couldn't care less.

    "Irregardless" when they mean regardless.

    The word certain.

    As in 'a certain Gryffindor'.

I'm turned off by the phrase 'I'm turned off by' in a non-sexual context, but said phrase doesn't actually hurt me irregardless, so no harm, no foul, and my fucking bad, but I could care less if yall's arvo, let alone your day, is ruined by me coming thru and telling a certain someone to get off their high horse and eat their fucking veggies.

Whew. I was worried for a moment that I wouldn't be able to fit it all into one sentence. (Who cares if it's basically a nonsense run-on? I got it one god damned sentence.) In all seriousness, I despise the word 'thing.' Especially when it's used as a stand in for an actual noun. (Ex."Hand me that thing over there.") You might as well just leave the word off and not have any nouns in your sentence because that's just as useful for communication. I despise filler phrases, like 'just saying' for the same reason. No, really? I thought you telepathically communicated that knowledge to me. Thank you for letting me know you said it with your mouth.

"I'm just saying" is a coward's translation of "I want to criticize you, but I'm too much a pussy to really do it directly, so here it is in passive-aggressive form."

It was a swear-jar offense on my last few submarines. Just put on your big-girl panties and say what you mean, already.

The hell? Idioms are the best thing since sliced bread.

The 'certain' word is instant trigger for me too.

When people write, or say, for all intensive purposes when they mean for all intents and purposes. I cringe every time...

People who verbally say "knock knock" when entering a home / room can get bent.

Any qualifier before the word "unique" makes me twitch.

I don't think I've ever heard someone use the word "problematic" and not sound like a tool.

    Anything "-gate"

Every single euphemism for "died" and "pregnant".
