Wazzup, I hate it when someone says that its so old and very irritating.
Another would be when someone says no offence.

    'Smile :) '
    'Be positive!'
Also, the use of '...' multiple times in a sentence (thank you facebook) pisses me off too.

That sounds like something you'd read in a Harry/Snape slash fic.

Pet peeve and application of language

Unique - if something is unique it is the ONLY one of its kind. If there is something else identical in trait, quality, etc. then by definition it cannot be unique.

I.e. He is a unique individual.

Well no. He is a person and thus shares that trait. He cannot, therefore be unique as he is not the only one of his kind.

Arguably there is a grey area depending on how strict one approaches the term. Similar logic is often applied to other concepts such as in the case of free will by which free will does not exist by the very fact one cannot choose to not have free will. This was presented as a valid argument in numerous cases such as by Leo Tolstoy in War and Peace.

Therefore while something may be sound in the strictest sense, one could argue that the evolution of language in its common usage and thus alteredunderstanding of meaning changes the rules of application for such terms.

    Interesting to me anyway.

I am definitely not a linguist so in my ignorance my contentions could certainly be misplaced to anyone learned.
