To say Hagrid took giant shits was an understatement.

"Fred--or was it George--laughed and ran out of the room."

I don't like that sort of thing. It's a phrase rather than a specific word. But it always has that sort of structure. Twin-wanking, broadly, is what annoys me.

To say Dumbledore was gay was an understatement.

To say Harry was over-rated was an understatement.

To say Hermione's hair was bushy was an understatement.

To say Firenze was a slut was an understatement.

To say this probably irritates the shit out of @TheWiseTomato is an understatement.

What if I were a better author who could write an actual summary? Would this fic be better? Read to find out!

I find summaries that use the Five W's among others are a prelude to an awful fic, especially when it is a What followed by an if. I also don't like it when they try to be "smooth" with a question. Another thing is when they capitalize every word, To Say That I Dislike That Would Be An Understatement. It's not like I can throw too many stones about writing, so that's all I shall say.

Snape keeps me from liking it.

The word. It means the fic is probably shit.

'Marriage Law' immediately sends me running... as well as all of those erally bad Slash relationships.
Reading fanfiction made me accept all kinds of weird and frankly disturbing Ships... but those incestuous Father/Son fics ... I'm out.

Oh and... maybe it's just me and those are really food but I just don't care and don't give them a chance: fics where the author gives Harry some weird alternate name.

Also those "Lord... (Potter/Black/Peverell)" fics. I get really itred of those after two/three chapters.

Honestly, any tags in the summary will always make me kind of wary. A summary should just be a summary and nothing else. A good enough Author should be able to provide an adequate summary for the story. And I don't just mean the stupid tags like "Manipulative!Dumbledore" or "Bashing" but even the "good" ones like "Mentor!Dumbledore" or "No Bashing". I even dislike when the pairing is stated in the summary; that's what character tags are for.

That's because people don't know how to write summaries in general.

Tags and a summary serve different functions though. Tags provide a broad categorization that should make fics easier to find. Searching for (or excluding) things like indy!harry, mentor!Snape or postHogwarts lets you arrive at a list of fics that you are looking for. After that the summary is there to entice you to read that specific fic over all the others.

And since ffnet doesn't allow tagging other then characters and relationships, they have to go into the summery by default. As much as I dislike AO3s execution of the system, it's still infinitely more useful then ffnets.

Scryer is the only way to search FFN.
