    Anyone else playing this?

Good graphics, not as good as Company of Heroes gameplay wise, but it's pretty damned good, and I like the story and characters.

The game pursues a "what-if" scenario where 1989 did not signal the end of the Cold War. In the 1980's, the Soviet Union found itself unable to compete with the United States because of its bankrupt and disorganized economy. Funds for the Soviet nuclear and conventional arsenal were becoming scarce. This led to increasing cuts in the civilian sector, which created widespread famines and supply shortages. As a result, the Soviet Politburo decided to blackmail Western Europe to get the aid they needed or invade Western Europe and take it themselves.

The Western Alliance viewed the Politburo's threats as a bluff and attempt to orchestrate an end to the crisis through diplomatic channels. As the crisis continued, the Warsaw Pact increased its readiness level compelling NATO to mobilize a defense along the borders of the Iron Curtain. The Soviets eventually invaded West Germany and faced an undermatched NATO

I'm playing it. I'm running through the campaign before I go online to familiarize myself with the interface though.

It's an awesome game, but it's a little to focused on micromanagement for me. For example, on 16 player servers, you can only have around 5 units or so at one time. Makes it really frustrating when people don't cooperate.

Dunno about the micro aspect of it, on a normal RTS game, you'd have to balance resources, with upgrades, with productions, on top of troop management.

What I'm finding I don't like is how easy the units die. Everything moves in mass zergs, and you don't really get a whole fuckload of troops to use if you grab anything higher then low infantry.

EDIT: Correction, even IF you use lowly infantry, it's still almost as expensive as a light tank, and lasts half as long. Makes no sense there.

The helicopters especially piss me off, they die too easy.

The artillery barrages though, the NATO ones you get in the first French mission are freaking awesome though.

The artillery strikes in that game are a thing of beauty and saved my ass more than once.

I'm in the Canadian Army so I've had the pleasure of seeing artillery fireing long range while training and it is a very humbling thing to behold.
Imagine this: 4 105mm howitzer's fireing constantly for about five minutes non-stop... It was fucking intense man, any infantry in that shit would be hammed unless they were en-fucking-trenched.

I tried the game a while back now and don't remember getting too far with it. I ended up preferring games like Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, the more 'normal' RTS games.

Its been a while...I don't clearly remember why. I know I disliked the camera certainly, but otherwise its a bit of a blur.

I stopped play after the new patch came out... The air is now way too freaking powerful...

3 heavy attack helicopter fly pass my 6 squad of infantry hiding in forest. All my infantry dead none of the helicopter when down. And my infantry were all 2LT in ranks and the copter were nothing...

WTF!? Last time, I would have lost only 2 squad or less and all his copter will be burning on the ground.

Anyway, Soviet Union Heavy Artillery rules! USA and NATO's suxs!

    Haha!

I beat it just now. Pretty easy, even on normal.

No multisquad management other then the very last map. 4 or 5 medium tanks, 2 repair tanks, 2-3 helicopters. Kills everything. The heavy Helos especially are sick strong, but I enjoyed the story, despite it being short as hell.

Game should of been twice as long, and every cinematic should of been animated, not the half ass storyboards that looked fugly. Uninstalled. 3 out of 5.
