We don't have BGs until Phase 3 but we have the PVP system in Phase 2.

 

I disagree.

While I enjoy world objectives (like EPL towers), I can't help but enjoy BGs.

BGs makes pvp something more than just a zergy gankfest. Also, I don't see much of a difference between vanilla BGs and world objectives in some aspects.They're more structured and much more available on demand (which is a great plus), this actually opens up pvp endgame for a lot of people

 

28 hours left to go and I'm still not completely locked on my server. I really want to play horde, but I don't know if that's actually at the cost of playing alone. So I would consider playing alliance with you guys (on herod), but I have no idea how active any of you will be. I have a ton of spare time and will be playing 14 hours a day probably, though of course I don't expect most people to even play half of that. Essentially, I'm saying that even if I do flip, I don't want the feeling like I'll still be playing alone, or have no one to chat with.

 

@Anarchy The community is pretty amazing man, I'd say jump on a server discord and find a guild of like minded players. There's one NZ ally guild on Arugal, and we already have something like 200 members and 60 people signed up for the raid team. Of course, I don't expect half of of them to make it, but the community around classic is actually something pretty special.

Seriously, I haven't played WoW since Cata, and haven't loved it since TBC. But classic already reminds me of vanilla.

 

I'm not denying your fun, but anything that takes people out of the world in an mmorpg defeats the purpose of it.

Wsg should be a persistent battle over Ashenvale. If the Horde are 'winning' the landscape should look more barren, while it should look as is if the Alliance are. Extrapolate that out to the other BGs.

Endlessly capturing flags because... Reasons? I don't think that should be a thing. Maybe for silly fun during holiday events, but I've always hated how nonsensical and meaningless bgs are.

BGs provide a structured 'fair' pvp experience just like arena does. It's there to supplement, not to replace. I don't think a purist development ethic is desirable for WoW, or any other MMO tbh.

 

I enjoy battlegrounds enough, but I don't think it's very productive arguing about something that's existed for 15 years and isn't getting changed. I do also remember when they did add world objectives. I rarely remember the EPL ones being done at all, and the Silithus ones actually had quest rewards for them (though I still don't think they were that popular.) It just never felt as organic as coming across an enemy group in Blackrock Mountain, or fighting over the Gurubashi chest. The TBC ones were at least garunteed action as everyone got funneled through Hellfire Peninsula.

Also, Arena at 60 sucked. Classes weren't designed with that in mind, and at least when it was out properly in TBC, they knew ahead of time about it and could balance it. Rebalancing the game is something they've already said they're not going to do. But maybe I'm still salty about the last time I did Arena at 60.

 

I'd argue all pvp in WoW sucks, especially arena. My point is that arenas make sense in world.

My argument against BGs is that they don't.

It's a thought experiment at this point, because doing the kind of pvp I actually wanna see in an MMORPG is way too much work on Blizzard's part (a part of my tiny, black heart died when I read an article that had devs talking about them making a next-gen MMO but canned it because the scope got away from them). Though now that I think of it, I really kinda doubt making a system where factions fight over zones, and reap the rewards of owning them is that complex.

Anyway, Classic is live in 12 hours from now, at 8am for me. Hopefully I can skip all the bullshit and get a somewhat decent experience after i get back from work...

Doesn't seem like I could edit my previous post (time related I'm guessing). 3.5 hours until release. I suspect there will be more changing up as people realmhop until they settle down. I'm still not really deadset on what I'm doing personally, but I'm leaning towards doing Incendius, which got put up a few hours ago. I hope some of the hardcore and established guilds break away from Herod and go there, but not too many of course. I feel like I'm eschewing part of that, for a maybe lower population, though it's probable that it gets to full as well, and if that happens, idk. By this time next week, I won't be surprised if I have a level 10 character on every realm.

2 minutes to go. 10k+ queues on every server, some with 40k+. this is epic. I've been logged in at my character screen for 3 hours just in case.

 

EU world servers are down, about what I expected, but still dissapointed. Settled on Razorgore PvP for now, names; Tharan / Tharandor.
