Would you play a Harry Potter MMORPG if one were officially created?

Hogwarts should be the 'tutorial stage' - then you enter the real world where the different levels could include stages like curse-breaking in Egypt, Dark Wizard hunting in Albania, necromancy wars in South America, etc.

I'm still a fan of the co-op gameplay style for that. But again I'm biased.

How long have you been playing that game? Perhaps you've nostalgia on your side. I gave it a shot, it didn't go too well. It's just too different from what I'm used to. The hotkeys, the perspective and especially the interface.

If it ever were to happy I'd play the fuck out of it. Just thinking about an extended raid to get the items Olivander needs to craft epic wands is giving me chills. Maybe have the endboss of one raid be an old experiment of Grindelwald gone rogue that suddenly stopped being dormant--something to do with demons.

Pretty sad that there probably won't ever be a game like that though.

There's boss level monsters already in the HP world without having to make things up. Nundu's are OP as fuck, and dragon's require a team of dedicated specialists just to handle. Then there are things like manticores and giants, which are no slouches, to speak nothing of other dark wizards themselves. And let's not forget that there are literal dugneons - we could explore an Egyptian tomb, having to uses skill and knowledge to make it to the end to defeat a reanimated pharoah. I don't want to use the word lich, since HP necromancy is stupid, but that sort of thing is a possibility as well.

Well, I don't know about an MMO, but Rocksteady have said they want to do something really different for their next game.

Rocksteady is a British dev and subsidary of Warner Bros. Warner Bros owns the HP rights.

Arkham Asylum is a fan-fucking-tastic game. A game entirely set within an enclosed environment with a brilliant atmosphere. That could translate into Hogwarts rather well...

I've not played anything from them that wasn't Batman, so who knows, but everything they've done - them, specifically - has been really great.

I'd really like that. I imagine a 3d metroidvania where you're exploring the castle and the surroundings during a crisis. I'd say set it during the time when the DE took over Hogwarts to necessitate the exploring/ combat, but I'd rather any game be outside the book timeline.

Different indeed, but some of the development has been necessary. Imagine trying to aim sds at 350+. I've tried, you'll hit once in a blue moon. Nostalgia can take you far, it was what prompted me to try again after becoming tired with all modern MMOs.

The interface? Are you referring to the flash client? The standalone is vastly superior and aesthetically unchanged since '02 when I last quit playing. Whether that is a pro or a con is debatable.

In related news I just won the last warmode on antica, that makes in 6 wins in the last 6 warmodes. Hopefully a Calva or Chrona warmode coming up next :>

I play only on non-pvp servers, more specifically Luminera.

This is also because I don't like playing with others. Instead I did almost all of the quests available, tried a bunch of challenges, grinded levels and sometimes I even make my own quests and 'adventures'.

Nostalgia helps yeah, it helps me keep at Diablo 2 for a good while whenever I start to replay it.
Standalone, I prefer not to use flash when I can. There perspective makes me feel like I'm walking on a wall. I suppose I just prefer the usual Isometric view.

I played that again and again in hopes that I would unlock Second Year with every level up milestone...

A HP game by Rocksteady? That would be the day! I'd definitely play a HP RPG but not an MMORPG. I hate the whole idea of you being the chosen one with other thousands of people out there. A Dragon Age Inquisition/Mass Effect like game set in the HP world would be the ideal.

I don't see developers trying to go beyond what we already know though. It would be too risky. Fans would think they are diverging from cannon or see it as fanfiction. So we would be stuck in Magical Britain, which is not a bad thing.

    Telltales Harry Potter tho

I don't like Rockstar games, and I'd much rather a contained, tighter experience than a game that tries to be a jack of all trades, but is a master of none.

But if you're after that 'huge', you can do anything experience? Sure.

    An RPG? Yes. MMO-anything? No.

As previously stated, the Witcher series has shown that book-to-game RPGs can be done, although they're very different series.

MMOs are pretty fucking awful if you're expecting anything you do in them to actually matter, or if you care for story in games at all, both of which I want to see in a HP game that's not just a tie-in to the books in some shape or form.

Of all the devs that could be entrusted to make a Hogwarts RPG, where you can create a custom character, have a completely separate yet enticing story that follows you for the 7 years you spend at Hogwarts, wandering Hogsmeade, going to Diagon and Knockturn, and so on, I'd probably want to see Obsidian get the job.

    Fuck. No.

They can write the story, I don't want them anywhere near the engine, lol.

What engine are we even speculating about here?

If given enough time, and not forced to rush the game out, it would have minimum bugs.
