It reads to me that people are getting banned for uploading videos with swearing in them, and the only proof of people getting banned for swearing during Skype is from raging keyboard warriors.

Besides, do you think Microsoft, or the 'NSA' , would tip their hands so easily just to slap people with 24 hour bans for cussing?

Let's be realistic, here. They weren't banning for Skype calls. The article provided absolutely no proof of that and only used Skype as a vector to get people to read the article. The Xbox Upload Studio is basically Xbox One's version of YouTube. You show your tits, cuss like a sailor or make a porno, it's generally going to get your account banned. That's not a matter for Big Brother conspiracy theorists. It's common sense...

Honestly, I'm getting tired of the rampant hate for the Xbox One. Microsoft is trying to create a console that can become the sole source of entertainment -TV, movies, music, communication and gaming- for the whole family. Your gamer who likes music and watching movies can do all those at the same time. Your family can watch television off the cable box and the kids can play some Kinect games. All anyone needs to do is talk at their machine to do so. That being said, it's a hell of a lot harder to develop games for because the hardware is weaker. If the PS4 hardware was added to the Microsoft software, I'd have a dream machine...

The PS4 is gaming specific. You'll get better deals on gaming, a vast selection of indie games and lots of free shit. It has better hardware, the game development issues aren't there, yet you have an awful community for gaming and the box is made for gaming and only gaming. This lack of versatility could be a bottleneck just as bad as the embedded static ram issues with the Xbox One.

 

Not entirely true. PS4 can do pretty anything xbone can do that doesn't involve kinect or passing DVRs through it.

Even voice commands can be patched in, but it wasn't a priority for Sony, so they didn't rush it for launch.

Gone are the days that the machine you get from the box is the machine you'll have ten years from now. Both the xbone and ps4 will be unrecognisable in two years time, let alone ten.

 

Well, if xbone needs to be rated on a metric other than 'how good is it as a game console' to look good, then it has obvious problems imo.

 

It happens in 2k13 on the 360 with the kinect plugged in. So that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I actually like the 'feature'. Adds a sense of realism that makes me grin, despite the fact that I can't stand most sports games.

Uh no, the PS4 and Sony have been banning people who cuss using their Play Room feature but no-one has been freaking out about it because it can be recorded and verified, but lots of the Bans coming out of Microsoft are from people who haven't used the Upload Studio, so they wonder how they're getting banned.

Because Microsoft is listening to the calls with bots that screen out cussing. No doubt they want to make Skype their VOIP client for all over-xbone communications, and are trying to stamp down on the rampant screaming, cussing children of the days of Yore with Xbox Live.

Still, banning people for cussing during private conversations is a horse of an entirely different color, and represents a violation of privacy that the gaming community should not countenance.

But even if they aren't monitoring skype calls (something I am NOT willing to give microsoft the benefit of the doubt on, considering the NSA can use the service to spy on you)...

People wouldn't be anywhere near as rough on the Xbone if Microsoft didn't try that hardcore DRM bullshit. They brought it all on themselves.

All laughing aside, I have zero pity for people getting banned for cursing left right and center. Quite the opposite, I think those assholes have been left to do their thing for far too long.
My issue is with how Microsoft is getting their information.

See the thing is, the Xbone is great in many ways, but people are really angry at being forced to do so many things that should just be optional.

Even if it was standard it would be fine so long as you can opt out, I bet most people would leave most of it as standard, but being forced to use something you brought, with your own money, and having no chance to change it, pisses people off.

 

Personally I am waiting for the Steam Box to take off.

As for sbox entering into the fray... I'm not sure. The streaming option aside (in which case i use an hdmi cable), the actual mini PC version would probably be prohibitively expensive unless the hardware just matches ps4/xbone.
