    How is there even a way to do that? Nearly Headless Nick is a ghost. Harry can't touch him. :facepalm

    I'm sure some of you have stumbled upon one or two of those, "Harry Potter characters read the books" series. What stops Voldemort from doing the same thing. If six kids can do it, I'm pretty sure that a Dark Lord can. There's also when they say that their memory will be wiped after the event.

    What is the point? Be proud, you have rendered your entire story completely unimportant.

    My new pet peeve: No sense of time. They just write it down, that the carachters walked miles and miles, and you get the feeling that it was done inf five minutes not in days, or weeks it should have...

    Really? What the hell would the Bloody Baron gain by chopping Nick's head off? It couldn't have been because he was "such a nice person".

    Even better: it's early afternoon. Two characters walk into a room to talk in private. They have a few lines of dialogue, maybe a few minutes. Then it says an hour or more passed, they are near curfew, whatever. Not "they started talking and didn't notice they talked for four hours" but they spent a few minutes and the author is stupid.

    Nothing; it's just something he promised Nick...or something. Go read TLIL.

    I actually read it in a different story, having systematical shuffled the awfulness of 95% of TLIL into the deep, dark recesses of my mind.

    I also agree with the time relativity thing, even though It's not really a peeve of mine, it's just more of an observational type thing. Lots of stories will have about 30 seconds of dialogue, yet for plot purposes only, the whole thing actually took 10 minutes or an hour or some ridiculous amount. I guess that's the nature of the beast, writing out a whole ten minute dialogue between character's could potential take up enough pages to be considered the whole chapter.

    WTF Anarchy? TLIL is great fanfiction and better than anything I've read from you. FACT.

    Pet peeve: In tune with the topic mentioned above I would like to address the utter stupidity of authors who bring up RL movies in their characters conversations although the flicks weren't even produced at the potterverse date used in their plot. It's jarring.

    Author's notes in the middle of story. A peeve that has been retyped in this thread again and again.

    For example;

    'He laughed maniacally at this (A/N just liek tha joker from Batman)'.

    It makes me want to kill the author.

    In a most horrific manner.

    Glad I've never directly come across this, it must be soul-destroying.

    Also, another peeve is when Super!Harry goes to a ridiculous extent (well, more ridiculous than usual). I read a story once where 13 year old Harry had the Animagus form of a "Sun Phoenix", the most formidable of it's kind. Worst.

    TLIL is great in both its strengths and its flaws - it is also one of my inspirations to writing my own story, things to do as well as not to do.

    @Lord Anarchy
    I wish you had finished your chapter-by-chapter review of TLIL. Oh well.

    I couldn't muster up the will to finish the story. It's a case where you're better off not rereading the story, because when you do, you will see all the flaws in it. Cherish the memories of the first time lol.

    I got one. Where something happens, just for the author to have a laugh, like someone having an animagus form of a dolphin.

    And then not having any swim-able water around.

    I do believe that there was one where Harry's animagus form was a flobberworm, once?

    I've got to ask, why is that stupid? Granted it is fannon that his name isn't just harry, but I've never met a harry. I know a Hadrian, and my cousin is named Harold. Harry always struck me as a nick-name used for some longer name, so i've never had a problem with it. Granted when he discovers that his name is Hadrian while in 6th year and demands everyone call him that, even the friends that he has had for years, it is odd. But when he discovers it pre-hogwarts or after first year, and goes on the whole 'you must use my given name' kick I don't have as big a problem.

    One I have is when they make Harry heir of house Evans, his mom was muggleborn, she doesn't have a magical ancestry.
