Easily fixed, pretend it's a major customer. Still, yeah.

Apparently, he's a Director at Grunnings. He could be the CEO as well, but it isn't as certain as you make it out to be.

... it might be a language thing, but how is the director of a company not the CEO?

Edit: Anyway, I think this is besides the point. The intention is to show that Vernon is the top-ranked dude at his company, regardless of what you call it.

Directors sit on the board of directors, and manage how a company is run.

He's one of the top-ranked dudes, potentially the top ranked dude.

One more. I also can't stand stories where the characters somehow get a hold of the books or fan fiction and read about themselves. It's one thing to have Harry and company Quantum Leaping into parallel universes where they don't exist except as figments of someone's imagination, it's quite another to have one or more of them randomly come across the books/fan fic and read all about it. It's stupid.

Same with the girl in 'our world' who adores the Harry Potter books somehow gets sucked into the Harry Potter world and manages to interact with everyone as they try to find a way to get her home.

Beonid: You are assuming that the company is structured like that and that Rowling knows and cares?

The director, not a director. I always took that to mean that he's simply the boss, in a Rowling-colloquial fashion, and I'm pretty sure that's how it was intended. (And even if you want to be picky, CEO == Managing Director, so there's that.)

Stories that try to turn Harry into a prankster but have terrible pranks.

Stories that give Harry an animagus form and a Marauder-esque nickname.

    Time Turners.

Because I still don't believe Hermione's story of "Oh Harry do you know what I had to do to get this? I had to talk to a teacher! And get her to write me a letter!"

Manipulating the fabric of the space-time continuum should not be left in the hands of schoolchildren. Period.

Fics that have been abandoned, yet left up to frustrate the hell out of readers. Seriously, if you know you're not going to continue the damn fic and have, therefore, abandoned it, why leave it up? I'm guilty of having a number of fics that I haven't done anything with in a few years but I haven't abandoned them. I do intend to finish them otherwise, I would take them down instead of being an absolute bitch and leaving them up to drive people crazy with.

HarryPotterFanfiction.net (I think) boasts over 70,000 fics. I'm willing to bet that around 70% of them are abandoned. I really wish they would go through that site and delete all the abandoned ones. It's especially frustrating to read a summary that sounds really good and to have reviews say it's excellent, yet it's been abandoned. I've come across many fics here that people here have recommended that sounded really, really good but, guess what? ABANDONED!

Take the goddamn fic down if you're aren't going to finish it!

Er, how about leaving it up for people who enjoy what little there is of the fic?

I'm with Damask of this. I like going back and re-reading old fics which have loads of chapters, but were never finished. I'd get really annoyed if they were taken down.

Neither of you are bothered by a real good, engaging fic that has no conclusion? Harry is blasted off a cliff or gets stabbed in the stomach or something and you don't get to find out what happened cause the author abandoned it. That doesn't bother you?

Maybe I'm the only one this bugs. *Shrug*

I agree with Damask and Mordecai. It is annoying but it's not going to get any less annoying if the fic's taken down.

Pet Peeve: Fics that only use canon spells, especially if the author's writing an action scene. Use some imagination and an online translator people!

Its certainly preferable for the fic to be finished, but I'm perfectly capable of coming up with a conclusion myself if I desperately need to. Most of the time I'll just move on and read something else once I'm done with the chapters that are there. I don't let it bother me.

Refusing to read anything that isn't complete cuts your available fics by...at least 90%.

Abandoned fics that don't tell you they're abandoned are a legitimate peeve.

Unforgiven, however, is an example of a fic I've left up - I posted a summary of where the fic would've gone, and it still gets favourites. Alerts, too, which boggles the mind, but still. I don't think you should advocate removing ~70% of fanfic because the author's not been able to finish it.

I actually prefer using canon spells and character names, myself, especially if I'm reading/writing something that is supposed to be very close to canon (in setting if not the plot).

After all, the spells & magic are secondary to the plot, ain't it?

If canon cannot provide, I'd go to semi-canon sources, like Pottermore, the games and the movies. The HP wiki is your friend.
