Q2 is going to be three competitions overlapping! There are many threads, but this one is yours (May).

Short stories typically range from 2000 words to 10000 words, give or take. This competition is going to focus on the ‘shorter’ range of that. Some of you will not like that. Some of you insist on using far more words than you actually need to use. Some of you will get over it and hone your craft. Be Best, DLP. Be Best. And consider that if you’re running into the upper limit then maybe you need to rewrite/revise rather than simply cut – or perhaps both. Hone, bitches.

Q2 2020 – May Competition (Shorter Stories)

Word Count: 2500-4000 words
Deadline – May 15th​

You get the entirety of May 15th to finish your story. Send it to @Xiph0 via pm once you’re finished. Authors will be kept anonymous between the two of us. Feel free to use beta-readers but don’t post anything in WbA until after voting has ended.

Voting Rules will be posted shortly before the deadline. These shouldn’t be too different from before, but depending how many stories we get they may be tweaked compared to prior comps.

I personally quite like stories of this length. I look forward to what you come up with, DLP. Make me proud.

We're trying something new with voting this time. As usual you need to review every story before voting and you can vote in this thread (as opposed to a poll). You get SEVEN POINTS to distribute as you see fit to each entry.

You can give one story 4 points, another 2, and the last 1. You can give two stories 3 points and one story 1 point. You can give one story 2 points and 5 stories 1 point.

Prefer reviews to be in spoiler tags. I'll try to get around to voting soon, but I believe Halt (who discussed this system of voting with me) knows how it's intended to work as well.

I'm not going to make you link to your reviews this time, but... everyone keep an eye out for me, yeah? If someone votes but didn't review let me know.

Edit: As usual, authors can vote but not for themselves. They can also not vote but still review.

 

Okay, so... eeesh, I mean, I dunno.

Entries 2 and 4 were the best, imo. Entry 2 I had the most fun reading, but Entry 4 felt like a nostalgic mix of sci fi and canon HP. Entry 2 struggled to land the ending and Entry 4 had less going on.

So if those two tie that leaves me with... entry 6, I think, getting the last point.
