    The Mysterious Nobody's Challenge #1

Not as much a challenge as it is a petition, but well, here it goes. A couple of months ago in the Plot-bunny thread I posted an idea I have for a story, but due to both lack of time and will, I've never gotten to write it.

If any author here is interested, and wants to adopt the idea and take it as a challenge, it'd be great for me to see it develop into a full-blown fic. So here it goes.

    SUMMARY:

Perspicacity and Lyndon Eye gave some good insight to make it better and more appealing.

    RULES:

-No pairings, or at least, If whoever takes this feels the need to pair someone, don't let it be in the spotlight, this is a story about revenge.

-Don't spend too many chapters with Harry as a child. It could be told as an introduction, prologue or through flashbacks. Harry has to be an adult through the story.

-Harry won't have super powers, nor will he have super-intelligence, be a girl magnet or über magical prowess. If he learns a new kind of magic from his mentor, it shouldn't be something that would trump the 'traditional' magic.

    -No bashing of any kind.

    -----

Aaaaand that's about it. Let's see if someone likes it enough...

Um....why would just not getting the letter stop Dumbledore from retrieving Harry? If for no other reason he would check the Dursleys to see if they knew anything.

Your challenge is horrible flawed my friend.

I know it's rough around the edges, I myself said so when I posted it back in the day, but man, that's why it's a plot-bunny, and an incomplete one at that. Perspicacity suggested a solution to that problem, and that's why I posted his reply along with my original post.

I don't know. I'm not the best when it comes to this kind of things, but the 'horribly flawed' seems a bit hyperbolic to me

I really don't think I could be bothered reading about Harry and the Illusionist. :/

Just seems boring and contrived to make the story longer, nothing in HPFF is fun until we get to Hogwarts, at least.

The fun usually stops when it reaches Hogwarts.

In conclusion, nothing fun ever happens in Harry Potter fanfiction.

I don't like this idea at all. It just seems... meh, it seems like an idea that would be looked at doubtfully in For review.

I actually am quite intrigued by the idea, I would certainly read it provided that the illusionist side is well researched and written. Professional stage magicians are a pretty insular group, especially their society's/clubs at the top end.

I think it would take an above average author to really get into that world and possibly mix it with H/P magic.

I also have the niggling feeling that there was a discworld book that had a quote on illusioists vs wizards that hit what you are trying to get to right on the head... will go for a rummage when its not 4:55 in the morning.

The plot of this challenge made me think of the usual 'Harry Is Abandoned By The Dursleys And Adopted By X' story format.

In this case, with X being Patrick Jane.

Well, I was thinking more in the lines of Patrick Jane meets Harry Potter meets Kill Bill but more elaborate and with a touch of Noir.

It's not as much abandonement as it's drifting apart, and I had envisioned it as a progressive thing; Harry doesn't run away from the Dursleys, He just starts gradually spending time with the old magician, and less with his family or in school, helping him with his shop and learning, until the point when he's almost living with him. Maybe Dumbledore doesn't care if he attends Hogwarts or not as long as he's safe due to the wards and relies in the prohecy. Then, by the time the blood wards have faded he can't be found anymore (through Perspicacity's suggestion maybe?).

That's what I can think of. I dunno...

Fuck Illusionist Harry. Think 'The Prestige' Harry. Young Harry taught by a true stage magician of the sort from that movie.

I keep seeing this thread title and thinking someone's made a TMNT challenge.

    :(

FYI: Leonardo doesn't just lead, he rules.

Now I'm curious; is there any TMNT/HP story out there?

Also, on an unrelated note, your sig makes me want to find out who that is, and maybe read Harry/Luna again later.

I'd probably be able to resist reading it. Seriously, unless Hagrid was somehow trying to take care of the Turtles as magical creatures and maybe breed them against their will <-- *that* has enough lulzy potential to warrant reading the no doubt terrible crossover it would be.

Fixed that to add some Truthiness.

Ages ago I downloaded such a story, read the available chapters, and then never got back to it when it updated. I grabbed each new chapter as it came out, but still haven't read them.

Now it's a complete seven part series... with a sequel series in progress! The first three stories range from 19 to 26 chapters, with the last four being 40 to 45.

Be forewarned, I remember nothing of this story and it's Harry/Ginny.

Bearing that in mind, it must have something going for it. Most people never finish even one story, where this series already has seven completed books.

Since there are so many parts, I'll simply link to the author's page.

Oh, and the author does have a complete H/LL story and sequel. It's probably been mentioned around here somewhere...

    Your bashing rule is unreasonable.

Typical smart!Harry stories have the other characters as being dumb.

Typical doesn't mean it should be done.

Also, there's a difference between making other characters dumber in order to make your main character seem smarter, and specifically bashing a character.

What the hell is this guy writing about?
