    I imagine a lot of people will ask questions like that when I show up on reddit. I'm not going to give all the answers, obviously (you'll get some in the next book), but I did worry that a child a day was a little over the top. However, I definitely meant to reveal that it's more than one child every seven years, and fudging with something half-assed like "Actually, it's every equinox" or whatever would have been less thematic.

    Well, I am not going to turn AQ into John Wick. Guns don't fit the tone of HP stories, for the most part, and I've likewise mostly kept Alex off the Internet.     Not really. Magic is still magic, but there's no reason being magical would automatically make something bulletproof. I already killed a wizard with a bullet in the first book (though in fairness, that was kind of the result of a curse).

It's a good thing I don't write by trying to anticipate what readers will like or dislike. I get about 50/50 who love/hate Alexandra for being headstrong and arrogant, who think Anna is the most interesting secondary character or the most boring one, who think this or that plot twist was brilliant or lame, etc. A lot of people don't like "My mother is a cat!"...

    I don't do fan service. Any ships that happen have been planned from very early on. If they don't work, or they distract from the plot, then it's something I'll keep in mind for the next book, but I never think "Well, I'll show you!" when writing.

    On Mondays and Fridays, I post chapters to MNFF and FF.net at the same time, usually in the morning right after I get up. But FictionAlley has an automatic system, so I have to upload it the night before. Chapters in FA's queue get posted at 3 a.m. EST, IIRC. I'm not dedicated enough to stay up until 3 a.m. just to make sure chapters appear everywhere simultaneously. :P So yeah, there's the secret to getting an advance peek - it will usually appear on FA first.     Yup, this was planned since book one. If you read carefully, the clues have always been there, right down to Claudia's name. If you aren't convinced that I pulled it off, or don't like the twist, then my weakness as a writer is to blame, but it's not a retcon. Sorry that I don't comment more, though I do enjoy the discussion. :) But I try to avoid influencing what people think of the story with extra-textual authorial declarations, at least until after the whole thing has been posted....

    One of the things I deliberate over the most when plotting and writing is how far afield from canon I dare to wander. In general, I like to think of the AQ universe as "canon compatible," which means to the degree that I make stuff up, I try to make up stuff that doesn't blatantly contradict the canon universe. For example, "Powers" are my invention and arguably push the story outside of Rowling's universe... unless you take the Tales of Beedle the Bard at face value. Rowling may or may not...

    Thank you. FWIW, my betas both say that book three is at least as good as, if not better than, book two. :) Updates will be twice a week (M/F). And the first chapter was a sort of prologue -- the rest of the book will be from Alexandra's POV, as usual.

    About a week per chapter. My statistical average over the past six months is about 900-1000 words per day. Some days I crank out over 6,000 words, other days I don't write anything (or do nothing but rewrite stuff I've already written).
