    PC decrapifier is good, beware though that it might remove some manufacturer utilities if you're not careful (I lost the use of my function keys on a Samsung netbook and had to download the software again). Make sure you read through the list, google any software you don't know.

    Acer's cheaper laptops have a pretty flimsy feel and use low quality parts, but perform fine for what you pay for. Something in the $800 range will not have those issues.

    Don't bother with Alienware. Samsung, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, HP and Lenovo all make some good hardware. Look for at least 4GB of RAM, however much storage space you want, the size screen you want and a recent gen dual core processor with a decent clock rate. An intel i5 is fine, an i7 is better but you don't need it. The main thing you want from a gaming laptop is a dedicated graphics card (with 1GB of memory, preferably) and good cooling.     Assembling a PC is easier than Lego. A component won't go into a slot it shouldn't. The only difficult thing is deciding which hardware to get and making sure it's all compatible, which isn't that hard at all. You can always post the build you're thinking of here and one of us will let you know. Also check out http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc - lots of good advice here.

    99% of people have absolutely no need for a soundcard--especially as most motherboards these days have good onboard sound chipsets. Same for the memory, you most likely don't need anything near that much, but if you have the cash then, eh. May as well splash out a bit. I'm curious about the HDDs. You gonna setup RAID?

    Wow, reggin... I've never even heard of them. /not surprised BloodRedSword: Unless you're doing a lot of very memory-intensive shit then I wouldn't bother getting more memory. Any performance increases will be barely noticeable. And I hope you're running 64-bit windows.

    Any motherboard with the P45 chipset is good. Which particular board you get depends on what features you want (number of USB ports, whether you want to use crossfire/SLI, are you using DDR2 or DDR3 memory etc.). EDIT: Shezza said it first. <.<
