Amazon guys don't leave packages outside of people's houses in Europe?

Related (Death apparently says the f-word a lot in season 4 of Castlevania):

Nope, here at least packages have to be signed for.

Huh, that's cool. Here packages generally only have to be signed for if the sender pays extra at the Post Office, or if it's shipped through a private service like UPS or FedEx.

I get an expensive prescription mailed to me every month that requires a signature, and it's a pain in the ass. The delivery window will be like 7am-8pm. After a while you figure out the time of day it usually comes, but unless you're at home all day or work somewhere you can get mail delivered you're screwed. I have to have them send it to the local depot and just pick it up from there usually, I'd hate to get all my packages that way.

I thought the joke was that some Americans are so poor you break into their homes with a box cutter.

Eh, it depends, especially now with covid. There are, like, four-five different package delivery services that all handle things differently. Some do just ring and leave the package on the hallway/ stairway (in apartment buildings), most ring and hand it over, some leave it at the local parcel shop and pretend you 'could not be reached'...

Most poor folks have one or two nice things they can barely afford, because being poor is so stressful you need something to make your day a little less miserable.

The joke was on the stereotypical notion, that US houses are made of cardboard, it was not a slam on poor people...

No, I'm pretty sure that the joke was about stealing packages.

Whatever it was about, like a poor diabetic in the US, it's long since dead.
