Magical Food
What's your favorite magical recipe? It cannot be a potion, and has to have at least one ingredient that cannot be found in the muggle world. Mine would have to be Snargaluff-Snare Stroganoff! Ingredients 1 1/2 pounds of fresh Snargaluff pods 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (2 1/2 cups) 2 medium onions, thinly sliced 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 1/4 cup olive oil 1 1/2 cups vegetable broth 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1/4 cup flour 1 1/2 cups coconut cream 2...

History Book Recs
In this thread, we share recommendations for books related to history: biographies and autobiographies, historical fiction and academic treatises, and more. Discussion on the merits of the recs is also welcome, ideally. I'll start us off by sharing what I've read, most of which are biographies written mostly for entertainment and are shared in no particular order: Defenders of the Faith: Charles V, Suleyman the Magnificent, and the Battle for Europe 1520-1536, by James Reston Jr. A dual...

Create your SI character
Looking for Self-Insert (SI) HP fanfiction has been one of my guilty pleasures for ages, with an emphasis on the words "looking for", not reading. That's because most stories in this niche category are either written with the maturity of 8 year olds, completely unrealistic or deal with some dumb romance shit. To be fair, I am basically looking for a serious and realistic take on something, that's totally a guilty pleasure trope and should in fact not be taken too serious by author and...

Wizarding Cuisine
Inspired by this informative reddit post on British recipes (and why it's all pretty bland). Basically, what would wizarding meals look like? What we see in canon is restricted to mostly muggle stuff and a few things that differentiate - pumpkin juice, those weird hors-d'oeuvres from HBP. I feel like this is an easy, simple way of showing some worldbuilding. So what else would there be? Keep in mind that there's both different ingredients and different ways of preparing stuff compared to...

Favorite Fanfic Moments
Apologies if a thread like this already exists (I couldn't find a recent one in my search that wasn't entirely HP related). I do an annual audit of my favorites on FFN (and ao3 more recently), and it always brings back a host of memories about the various fics listed. All of them have a reason for being there, sometimes as little a single scene that leapt out as worthwhile. This lead me to thinking about the scene/moment that most stands out to me across all my years of reading and writing...

Interludes, when and how?
Everyone who's read Worm and Wormfic has had more than their share of interludes, tiny chapters that cut to other characters reacting to whatever wacky stunt the main character's pulled now. Or, even worse, PHO interludes, where the writer roleplays an entire forum. This is less of a thing in other fandoms for whatever reason, but still, the question remains: can interludes be done well? If so, how does an interlude qualify as good?

Teamfight Tactics
I couldn't find a Teamfight Tactics thread so I decided to make one. I have an old 'DLP' folder in my friends list and I see some of you playing, but maybe no one here is super into it. I finished season 1 in D1, but I haven't had a chance to really jump into set 2 until now. I was pretty burned out by the end of last season, but I'm enjoying the heck out of the new set of units. Phantom and Hextech out of the game removes so many feels bad moments of RNG and the new synergies are pretty...

You're in line...
The last starship is about to leave a dying Earth. There's only one spot left, and several million people stand ahead of you on the waitlist to get on. What niche do you claim only you can fill to clinch the spot, and survive the destruction of your home planet? Which of your unique skills do you depend on on when calamity strikes?

Current Projects
So there are some of us working on the story competition, and I wouldn't ask anyone to reveal whether or not you're submitting an entry; it would actually be better if you did not. Apart from that, though, who here is actively writing fanfiction and what are you writing? If you're not putting pen to paper today, do you have something that you're trying to write? Do you have something you want to write in the future? I mainly ask because I've got nothing good to read right now, and I really...

How would you make a sequel?
It's a kind of a plot bunny thread, but with a specific focus. Assume that you're asked to make a sequel to one of your favourite films, how would you make it? What is its plot and who would you cast or make a director? It can be a proper sequel, a prequel or even a remake/reboot. And it doesn't even necessary needs to be something that you consider a worthwhile attempt, as my first entry will prove, just something you considered because you simply wanted more of this film. Groundhog Day 2...

Minecraft Mods
In the similar vein of the old Skyrim Mod Thread, I figured I would share some of my favorite mods here, and show off some of the best ones, and how to install them. For this first post I decided to show off OTG or Open Terrain Generator; basically it overhauls terrarin generation in minecraft, new procedural structures can be programmed in, but also just a general rework of how the engine generates a world, here are some clips of various cool shit I found in like under an hour of playing....

Games of the Decade
In the same spirit as the Films of the Decade thread. As with that, looking back made me realise how many well-regarded games have completely passed me by (or, in several cases, I've bought and not got round to playing for one reason or another...) I'm going to do a year by year best/runner-up, but feel free to use your own method. I'm also restricting myself to games I've completed. 2010: Best - Mass Effect 2 Runner-up - Limbo 2011: Best - Skyrim Runner-up - Dark Souls 2012: Best - Mass...

Movies of the Decade
What it says on the tin. I'm going to offer up two films (best and runner-up) for each year of the decade; if you prefer to do a top ten, or just a long list of films you'd recommend, you do you. List for ease of recollection. 2010: Best - Toy Story 3 Runner-up - Scott Pilgrim vs the World 2011: Best - The Guard Runner-up - The Skin I Live In 2012: Best - Cabin in the Woods Runner-up - Avengers Assemble 2013: Best - 12 Years a Slave Runner-up - Gravity 2014: Best - Calvary Runner-up -...

What's your profile picture?
What is your profile picture? Why did you choose it? Inspired by the forum name thread. Mine is stolen art of Rubick, the Grand Magus, a character from a game called Dota 2. He's a magus, a wizard, that steals other people's spells and turns them against them. I was really into Dota 2, and Rubick was one of my favorite heroes, and it had a similar theme with Harry Potter, so here we are.

What do you do?
You wake up one day and realise that you're in the alternate universe of the Pokémon series. What region do you wake in? What's your plan? What do your first 24 hours and first week consist of? Do you actively go looking for a Pokémon of your own or do you keep your head down and get a job in the pokemart?
